Expect to end up paying far more than you intended

Like many of you, I should have checked the reviews first. :¬(
I'd give them minus one if that was an option.

What might be going on here is a scheme to rip you off:
1) First step is there are minimum purchases before Chromeburner will deliver. Why turn away business when delivery costs are up to you to decide? Possibly because then the chances are your minimum order will exceed the VAT import limit to the UK (£135?), and that is critical for this scheme to work.
2) Your courier then informs you that there is a C.O.D. (Collect On Delivery) payment due. Now, you should expect to have to pay the 20% VAT if you exceeded the £135 threshold (note multiple, separate items would keep you below this). However, in my case, the C.O.D. was well over double the VAT rate and seems many of you have experienced the same. So, to whom does the excess go? You guessed it….
3) Now, like me, it’s probable you’ve gone back to Chromeburner who, doubtless, will point to all sorts of T&Cs saying the purchaser is responsible for all duties etc AND postage both ways if you reject the items (I did, reject on principle). They are relying on many of you sucking up the extra costs over the VAT and increasing their profits. I challenged Chromeburner on this and quelle surprise, they’ve gone silent.

So, what should you do? Well, stay away from Chromeburner AND their parent FC Moto unless you want the items so badly, you'll pay anything. Complain to the owner who is some chap Farshid Chalatbari you can find on Linked In. Better still, contact your credit card company because the sooner this lot are blacklisted to protect unwary consumers, the better.

AVOID company in liquidation do not return any products

Returned a motorbike jacket using their website, paid additional £25 for a return label now the company is apparently not accepting returns due to them going into liquidation. Not only do I not have the product, I've lost the money for the product but also paid additional money for postage massively out of pocket now.

My experience

Bought an HJC V10 helmet £70 cheaper than i could get it in the UK.

The day before delivery I got the dreaded email Fedx saying Iowed £57 in duties so I email Chromeburner and got a very quick response from Kevin at customer support asking for the link from Fedx so he could pay the charges and then reclaim from Fedx and not hold up delivery.
I found chromeburner to be very pro active with the issue i had.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

Item ‘on sale’ with £0.00 shipping charges, seemed too good to be true! Because it was. Invoiced from FedEx around a week after receiving the item for all the duty & tax charges, making the item more expensive than if I’d just bought in UK. Lesson learned!

Hi Jennifer, we're sorry to hear you were taxed for your order but I would like to point out that on our UK website chromeburner.com/gb/en/ we have a warning on every product page you may be liable for import charges. During checkout we also require you to tick a box saying you are aware of this (with a link to read more info on that topic) before you are able to proceed and place the order so we do mention this on our website quite clearly.

£60 Extra Charge out of nowhere a month later

"We pay shipping over £150!"
What the don't tell you is that they use FedEx, You get charged VAT, and a "Disbursement fee" (A con) a month later.

A month after i made my purchase i'm slapped with a mandatory bill from FedEx which totals 25% OF MY TOTAL ORDER VALUE. Utter joke, It'd have been cheaper for me to fly out and buy the item, don't touch this company.

Hi, I would like to point that we do in fact tell you you may be liable for import charges, as a result of Brexit. On every product page we mention "UK customers: you may be liable for import VAT and duties for this product."
Helmets are exempt from this as they are considered a personal protective equipment item and have a VAT zero-rate in the UK.

Then during checkout, you had to tick a box saying "
I agree to the terms and conditions, and accept that I may be liable for import VAT, duties and customs brokerage fees, for items other than helmets, upon entry in the UK. Click here for more information. "

Without ticking that box, you could not have proceed to place the order.

Avoid - terrible customer service

We purchased 2 x ADX 2 helmets from ChromeBurner. The very first rain we encountered found it's way through the top of the visor. We contacted ChromeBurner and their reply was "the helmets aren't waterproof" We will be using SportsBikeShop.com in the future... ChromeBurner have no interest in aftersales service.. Such a shame that these companies have little care form their customers. I'm hoping to speak with Scorpion and see if they are more receptive.

Fantastic service

Fantastic service, I ordered a Bell Moto 3 helmet on Sunday evening at a reduced price , well cheaper than other suppliers, it arrived at my house in the Highlands of Scotland Wednesday lunchtime, Helmet was in perfect condition.
Easy online service and definitely well priced, delivered by FedEx who kept me well informed. Definitely use again .

Do NOT use these guys as they ship to you excluding Import Duty and Tax which you then have to factor in on top of the price you pay.
They're certainly not upfront about this when ordering.
I WILL NOT USE THEM AGAIN.

I am being chased by Fedex for VAT on a helmet I purchased and had imported to the UK. Chrome burners website states that all helmets imported to the UK are VAT exempt, this is not the case, what you will receive is multiple letters from FEDEX threatening you for collection of VAT.

AS PER CHROME BURNER WEBSITE

** "UK customers: motorcycle helmets are exempt from VAT so there will be no import VAT on this product upon entry in the UK" **

Chrome burner admitted in the first message that it was an error, however I am now receiving letters from FEDEX, now chrome burner are ignoring me, leaving me with a mess to clean up.

I would never shop here again, I advise anyone in the UK to AVOID this place.... its complete hassle. Fedex are trying to chase me for £75 VAT.

Helmets not VAT free with FedEx

We had ordered a jacket for my Wife previously & had been impressed with the service from ChromeBurner so didn't hesitate ordering a helmet for me.
Unfortunately FedEx are chasing me for VAT & their fee despite no end of emails backwards and forwards.
ChromeBurner's customer service replied once to an email from me & just told me to tell FedEx they were making a mistake, which I'd already done.
I've seen one other review where ChromeBurner offered to contact FedEx to get the charge reversed but I've had no response to the last two emails to ChromeBurner's customer service so can't say I'm impressed this time.
Helmet was a Nexx X Viliby & order number was 12000120304.
Not sure if FedEx customer service is AI or human but either way it's like talking to a brick wall, they have admitted it's in error but their solution is that I pay it & reclaim on my VAT return.
I keep telling them that I'm just a private individual & not a trader.
I have previously had to reclaim off HMRC for a parcel delivered by Parcelforce & you don't get the couriers fee back.

Terrible customer service don't use

I decided to use Slow burner, I meant Chromeburner because of the competitively priced helmets and the savings were attractive. I purchased the helmet, it was due 17/02/2022. Quite excited I choose to take the day off. At 1800hrs FedEx had still not delivered. 2 hrs later I received a text stating my delivery would be at midnight....gues what??? Nope!
A whole week of emails to Fedex (never responded) and a very defensive customer service at Chromeburner left me with a feeling that I'd been scammed.
Yesterday and after threatening Chromeburner that I would seek a solution through my bank for reimbursement, I received a text from FedEx stating that I owed nearly £62 in import charges.
It eventually found its way to my address this morning without e having to pay
the charges.
Excuses used by Chromeburner 1. Health and safety because of the storms in the UK. The storm was forecast for the 18th my delivery was for the 17th.
2. We cannot accept responsibility for FedEx.....then why use them especially if you disagree with the import charges as well it makes no sense?
I will NEVER buy from this company again, customer services are useless and their response for the import charge was to refuse the delivery and send it back. Honestly, get a grip Chromeburner.

Hi Dean,

We have had several mail exchanges in regards to this issue. Our service can only be of use if our advice and information is taken to be true. Every bit of our advice, information and recommendations we have given you have been waived and were taken to be untrue. Making it very hard for us to assist you.

As for the FedEx-related issue. We contacted FedEx in your stead and informed you about what they had to say about the delays in the UK, as you have listed in your review. We can deduct from your message that this explanation does not sound plausible to you. We do not make up these explanations, this is the explanation we received from FedEx UK.

If you require our assistance in regards to the wrongful import charge, please offer us a reply to the email with instructions we have send you yesterday.

Kind regards,

Buying a Helmet from Europe to the UK

I'm sure many in the UK might be sceptical about buying a helmet from Europe with the possibilities of further import charges that may be applied. I emailed ChromeBurners who reassured me that there would be zero VAT as helmets in the UK are classed as a safety item . They said that Fed Ex might charge a handling charge of of about 10 euros but they said that it had not been applied to most purchases . I purchased a Schuberth C3 Pro for £224 . The Uk dealer wanted £359. In the reviews for this model, Schuberth had been criticised for previously using a aftermarket pinlock. But from 2021, they said they would use a pinlock 120 (120 seconds before misting). I expected to get the older version at the price I was paying, But was surprised to get the latest version. So this was not an old stock helmet. The helmet took 3 days to arrive at my home in Scotland, and there were no extra charges from Fed Ex. First time I have used ChromeBurners, and they gave me a 5star service. I would not hesitate to use them again.

UK prices do not include VAT

Be warned that despite looking like a UK website, it isn't and the prices advertised to not include VAT which is unlawful in the UK. After delivery you will get an invoice for VAT and handling charge from the courier company, making the prices much higher than you think.

Hi!

Thank you for your honest opinion, feedback and message. We also find it really annoying for our customers that FedEx, our postal courier, wrongly charges our customers with import costs when a motorcycle helmet is purchased.

Here it is made clear that motorcycle helmets are a safety article and therefore have 0% VAT:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/protective-equipment-and-vat-notice-70123

If you send us an email we can contact FedEx and arrange for the charge to be reversed.

Our email address is: support@chromeburner.com

Like to hear from you.
