Misleading…
I bought an ebook that was advertised as an ePub, assuming I could read it on my Kindle or a reader of my choice.
It turns out that you don't own the book and can only read it on their chosen platforms, despite paying the price of an actual book.
Deceptive rewards program
I bought two bibles for my boys. I was somehow signed up for a rewards program that charged my credit card $16.95 a month for six straight months. I had to call in to cancel the rewards program. No offer of a refund. The bibles cost $49.00. It looks like I donated over $100.00 to Christian Book. Very deceptive practice. I won't buy anything from them again.
16.95 MONTHLY SCAM CHARGE
I bought a Bible and then discovered they automatically sign you up for a monthly 16.95 membership. There was NO sign up by me! When you visit the site there is NO cancel membership option. When you talk to them they act like its your fault but when you visit BBB and review sites this SCAM is hitting everyone.
I placed one order from Christianbooks…
I placed one order from Christianbooks and paid for it through PayPal. I never signed up for their $16.95 a month rewards program, but when I filed a claim with PayPal, Christianbooks stated I had, and was charged $16.95 a month. They are refusing to refund my money. The order I placed was a one time order only, so there would be no reason for me to pay them $16.95 every month for their "rewards" program. If this is how they make money, someone needs to look into their practices. Not a very Christian company to take money that doesn't belong to them.
UPDATE: I was able to speak with someone and told him I had not signed up for the $16.95 rewards program. He did refund my money.
Misleading rewards sign up
You would think after enough negative reviews like this, they would change their system. Enrolled in $16.95/month membership that I didn’t know was happening. I just wanted to order one thing. Called to cancel and said they couldn’t see me in the system yet. Hoping I will be able to cancel before getting charged for something I didn’t want.
Another victim to the deceptive $16.95…
Another victim of the deceptive $16.95 rewards member charge.
EDIT: They did refund me after I sent them an email
auto enrolled into a rewards program I never signed up for
like others have said, they enrolled me in their rewards program and proceeded to bill me for eight months although I only bought a single Bible from their site. Customer service was nice enough. They said they canceled. We will see. I am actually contacting my bank to dispute the charges, since they have such a poor history of this type of behavior
great customer service, not great rewards service
Overall great customer service after my bad experience with their rewards program. I was very upset to be auto-enrolled in the rewards program in April 2024 without realizing I would be billed for this service. They did refund me and apologize about the confusion when I reached out. I am pleased to say the company reached out to me today, they were apologetic and they are making things right. VERY happy with their customer service and it sounds like they are working with the company they do rewards with to make things better. I would do business with them again because they have good customer service and care about their customers!! Very understanding.
Beware! Autoenroll in 16.95 rewards program.
I was enrolled in a rewards program on autopay through PayPal for 16.95 recurring DAILY! I bought Easter stationery for the churches I pastor but never enrolled in the rewards program. What a scam.
Watch out for recurring charges!
I purchased a Bible and Strong's from Christianbook.com in November for my Wife at Christmas for around $120.00. I just noticed that I have been getting a recurring charge of almost $17.00 every month for 4 months since then and when I called and inquired, they said I checked a box so I would not have to pay for shipping on future orders and would be eligible for a 5% discount at any of their stores. Now, I have paid for that Bible and book almost half again and I live out in the country in a small town in central Texas, nowhere near anywhere I could use their discount.
It is partly my fault as I am a low sight person and I should have spent much more time in reviewing their small print but it would seem foolish for anyone to agree to pay for a discount on FUTURE SHIPPING and a 5% DISCOUNT from stores no where near you. BEWARE.
Great bookstore.
I received good books here. Service was speedy and efficient.
Christianbook.com is my go-to for studies and reading materials!
When I start looking for a Bible study for my women’s group, I bounce back and forth between Lifeway and christianbook.com. But, I have noticed that christianbook.com usually has the studies that I am looking for, whereas Lifeway does not. So, christianbook is more reliable, especially if you need help with ideas on a particular study that you may be looking for. I would highly recommend christianbook.com as your go-to for all your Christian studies and reading materials!
I got enrolled in a rewards service I…
I got enrolled in a rewards service I did NOT authorize and was charged $15/mo for several months before I noticed. Called to cancel and for a “Christian” company the customer service rep was not very kind at all! Will NEVER by from them again!
I somehow got enrolled in a “reward” program
I somehow got enrolled in their $15/mo membership program. They claimed I knowingly signed up but I do NOT enroll for programs, so it was so super fine print. Do NOT accept a rebate, membership, or rewards program!!! They only refunded part of the charges, basically what I would be able to contest with my payment method. I am so disappointed in this “Christian” company. Guess I’m going back to Amazon and Barnes and Nobel.
Straight to the point
Straight to the point. This is my first order and last from this business. They charged the amount, and later I received an email saying that my product was on hold until I called them back to verify the billing address. So after they charged to my bank account? Umm, It's crazy. At the end of the day, I requested a cancellation order because I don't have time to be calling for something already processed but on hold. At the moment waiting for the bank returned the pending amount of $13.80
Conclusion: Go to another place to buy to save time.
Thanks
Years of Great Experience
I have been ordering from christianbook.com for over 15 years. I have ordered homeschool materials, Bibles with personalized engraving, fun kid stuff and more! I have found they have great selection and fast shipping. Thank you Christianbook! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Beware when purchasing from this…
Beware when purchasing from this company. They will automatically enroll you in a $15/mo membership program without your knowledge.
I ordered an ACT prep for my son back and June for my son and didn't notice the charge until today. They're customer service representative was not sympathetic at all and very matter of fact. They basically stole nearly $100 from me. Not very "Christian".
Deceitful
Without me being aware I was charged $16.95 for 2 months for nothing! I called and was told I had checked a box during an order. For what I never understood. I will NEVER order another item from them.
Terrible Customer Service. Very Disorganized Company!
We ordered a school curriculum and we received the wrong book. They apologized and resent the order and then resent the same wrong book again. Now we are two weeks late on the curriculum we need. They said they would send the order with two day shipping and now we get an email that they had their inventory wrong and they cannot fill the order at this time. We called to complain and their was no effort to correct the problem. They simply did not care and when we explained what happened and said we were going to leave a negative review they simply said "ok" with no apology or effort to rectify the problem. Very poor customer service. Very disorganized. This is the second time we've had problems with them listing inventory they don't actually have. We will not support this business again. They have lost us as a customer!
Not a Christian bookstore is Support woke
I just found out that this company is supporting transgender’s which goes against the Bible. Just like homosexuality goes against the Bible, so I highly recommend that you stay away from it because transgender’s are not Christians this company on cares about money not about customers.
