Absolutely awful and will not let go of…

Absolutely awful and will not let go of your funds when you want to transfer to a new pension pot.
I’ve had many pension pots through different jobs that I’ve had and this one is by far the worst for transferring over. I use Pension Bee (who are brilliant for consolidating pension funds) and they have come across barrier after barrier to transfer this pension over. To the point where they’re asking me to take part in some form of consulting (as well as lots of unnecessary paperwork). Will never use again but annoyingly it’s the chosen pension provided my work use.

The Cheviot Trust …not to be trusted if you care about your loved ones!

In January this year my wife of more than 20-years lost her battle with Cancer, and whilst this was always an outcome for terminal stage 4, it was a massive shock to our family as it was unexpected at the time of treatment.

My late wife held a pension with The Cheviot Trust through her employer Jones Day (previously taken out under Gouldens), she had the option to change pension providers as the more recent firm decided to remove The Cheviot Trust from its portfolio of providers recommending more established sustainable larger providers, but my wife decided to remain with The Cheviot Trust.

I duly completed all forms, process and answering some quite bizarre questions that seemed almost inappropriate that were requested by The Cheviot Trust including providing proof of death and my status as Exor of my late wife.

The big problem arose when The Cheviot Trust refused to provide details of my late wife pension fund values citing GDPR that this data could not be provided as I was not the subscriber, but the subscriber was dead!

Even after discussing with The Cheviot Trust CEO explaining my wife was no longer alive and I am Exor, she refused to provide my late wife pension fund amount detail.

Interesting to note that ALL other Financial Institutions including HMRC were more than helpful in providing all data I requested, it was only The Cheviot Trust who refused point-blank to provide this information.

It took a further 5-months with the help of NatWest to finally uncover what the pension values were!

Why was this important to us? It caused an irreversible barrier to our grieving process; we were in a state of flux with The Cheviot Trust not allowing us closure and bear in mind we have children and really needed this information at the time of complying with their process.

The above whilst saddening in content, is completely true and factual of how my family were treated by this very small (less than 20-staff) pension provider trading under the name of The Cheviot Trust.

If you are thinking of joining one of The Cheviot Trust pension schemes or are currently already in one of their pension schemes, I would seriously review/reassess if you have made the right choice investing and trusting this business or at the very least get written and approved agreement provisions in place to protect your loved ones upon your passing on!
