Very disappointing experience — not a transparent company

I signed up for a subscription in February, and one of the main reasons I chose this magazine over others was the advertised gift of Caran D’Ache pencils. These never arrived.
I was told to wait 28 working days — I did. Nothing arrived.
I was then informed the pencils were out of stock and that a replacement gift would be sent. I was asked to wait another 7–10 days — I did. Still nothing.
At this point I cancelled my subscription. The whole process felt completely opaque and not at all what I expect from a reputable company. I genuinely wish I had read the reviews before signing up.

Spoke to some American lady on the phone who assured me a copy was on its way and that was weeks ago. Never again should have taken out Garden ad Home instead.

This company is a verging on a criminal scam
Signed-up to a six-month subscription in January. Two issues should've arrived by now and haven't received anything. This is despite my having had called the company, sent multiple emails and checking every day for delivery. I've also been requesting cancellation and refund, which has been ignored. It is illegal to enter into a contract and not deliver on the agreed provision of product or service.

Non Arrival of Purchase and No Reply to Attempted Communication
On the 25th October 2025 Iplaced an order for a one off magazine called 'Interior Design' by The English Home magazine. The magazine has not arrived and today is 21st November 2025. I have emailed 3 times and I just get an automatic email back. I have, just now telephoned, and it has gone straight to voice mail. I am not expecting a reply to that or this complaint. In a few days time, if I hear or receive nothing, I will attempt to claim my money back via Paypal. Avoid.
No response to communications!
I placed an order for a one-off magazine that was 'supposed' to be delivered 'within 7-10 days'. That time has now been well exceeded and although I have emailed for an update and asked for a refund I still cannot get a response. If you phone you'll just get an answering machine so don't bother!

Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. I ordered a one-off magazine as a gift. 13 days later, still no sign of the magazine and no reply to my emails. Avoid! Wish I had seen the other reviews sooner.
Missing magazines with no help from company
We have had subscriptions to two magazines for many years. About 3-4 years ago our rate of receiving them went to about 50%, and it is now worse. One magazine has not been sighted for 15 months. Response to our emails is not helpful. Just told they cannot resend as no more left and to wait 50 days for the next issue. Obviously not alone in this experience. Is there an ombudsman in the UK as in Australia? How are they allowed to operate in this way

Total scammers. Paid for subscription for 1 year. They automatically renewed the subscription for a 2nd year. Didnt receive a single magazine. You also cant cancel via their website. Why are they getting away with this, they are disgusting. PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY.

It's no just overseas deliveries that are not fulfilled
I wanted to give a gift subscription to The English Home as a birthday present. When I went online the earliest issue that could be sent as the first issue was February 2024. As the recipient's birthday was at the beginning of December, I was told I could order separately 2 previous issues.
I therefore ordered the gift subscription and 2 magazines. The amount for both was taken from my account and no magazine has been received.
It is tortuous trying to get through on the phone and e mails are ignored or replied to in a meaningless way by telling me the magazine "could still be in the postal system". I have requested a refund and received nothing. Avoid this company.
I paid a subscription for Discover Britain but nothing delivered.
I paid a subscription for Discover Britain in November 2022. It is now October 2023 and I have received just one copy. I live in Sydney, Australia and the only response I get is, we cannot control delivery. There has been no offer of a refund. How can all magazines “go
astray”. They do not even reply to my emails. Dreadful company to deal with. If you live outside Britain do not waste your money.
You won't receive what you've paid for
If you live outside the UK, don't expect to receive the magazines you've paid for.
I took out a subscription to Popshot Quarterly Magazine in February 2022. To date, I should have received nine magazines; however, I have received zero. I live in Japan and have never had any issues with deliveries from the UK, so I find it very hard to believe that nine separate magazine deliveries have somehow gone missing in transit.
Each time I write to Chelsea's support team, I get a generic response saying that it can take up to 45 days for international delivery, that replacements have been sent, and not to forget that I can view the digital versions of the magazine online.
If the subscription had been for digital versions of the magazine, this would not be a problem, but I paid for a subscription that stated they would send physical copies as well.
Looking at other reviews here, I am not alone. It's abhorrent that Chelsea Magazine Company take people's money with zero intention of sending out the magazines they have paid for.
