CBCS - The Great Pretenders of the Comic Grading World

I submitted 10 comics for grading, slabbing and signature verification December 23 2023 - CBCS is owned by Beckett Authentication Services. CBCS aknowledged receipt of my books on my account webpage, noting " your order has arrived and is being prepared for our multi-step verification and grading process. " Fast foward to January 29th 2025 , I sent a signature-required letter to the company asking what the heck was going on - CBCS customer service (such as it is) cannot be reached via phone and do not respond to emails. A staff member eventually telephoned me and advised they had not received my comics - and there was nothing they could or would do further - and I should reach out to Beckett's attorney Ashley Sims if I wanted to go legal (I did; she didn't respond to my email). The status of my submission was summarily changed to indicate CBCS were awaiting my books. I consulted a Texas attorney ( also a comic book collector) a discussion that lead me to conclude legal costs would far outweigh the value of my comics. My impression of CBCS is that they are flim-flam, glib, thoroughly disorganized and unqualified for a profession requiring meticulous attention to detail. I sanitized my collection of every single CBCS graded comic I had acquired over the years, and would encourage serious collectors to consider carefully whether they want this company handling their comics.
