Hidden charges

Hidden charges. Charged me 50 euros for washing the car. This was in the small print of the agreement that you have seconds to agree to. Not made clear by the staff on the desk, and there is an optional 15 euro fee you can pre pay to have it washed. 15 / 50 is a big difference and I was not offered this service. The 50 euros works out to be a 50% markup on the 120 initial rental.

I offered the company 2 chances over email to keep my business going forward, with this not being normal rental car practice. They denied both times and just referred me to the small print.

Car Whizz looks to be a franchise, not a proper global rental company. So I guess it's at the local owner's degression if they want to be good or evil.

This is my first and last time using this company.

Very disappointed with this company.

After returning the vehicle, we were charged €650 for alleged damage that we absolutely did not cause. The photos provided as “evidence” do not clearly show any actual damage, yet the charge was still taken from our card.
We have formally disputed the transaction with our bank. Don't rent with this agency !!!

Absolutely avoid Carwiz Rent A Car

Absolutely avoid Carwiz Rent A Car at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) location. This was one of the worst rental car experiences I have ever had.

To begin with, the pickup process itself was difficult and poorly organized. The shuttle driver who picked us up was incredibly unprofessional and spent the drive TEXTING while driving, which immediately made us feel unsafe before we had even gotten the car.

Once we arrived, the pricing was nowhere near what was advertised online. We were charged significantly more than the quoted price, with additional fees and charges that felt deceptive and misleading.

The vehicle itself was disgusting. The car absolutely reeked of marijuana — not faintly, but overwhelmingly strong to the point the smell was nauseating and embarrassing to drive around in.

Even worse, the vehicle had major mechanical/refueling issues. The gas tank could barely be filled because the pump would constantly shut off, apparently due to an EVAP or fueling system problem. It became such a serious issue that we actually ran OUT OF GAS because the vehicle would not properly accept fuel. We were forced to walk to a gas station, purchase a gas can, and manually refill the vehicle ourselves just to continue our trip. I even have video evidence documenting the fueling malfunction.

When we notified the rental agency about the issue, we were told someone would contact us to resolve it. That was over a week ago, and absolutely nobody has followed up. No apology, no assistance, no accountability.

This company feels cheap, dishonest, and completely unconcerned with customer safety or vehicle quality. They are renting out filthy, broken-down vehicles while providing virtually nonexistent customer service. Between the unsafe driver, misleading pricing, marijuana-smelling car, and dangerous fueling issues, this experience was beyond unacceptable.

Save yourself the stress, wasted money, and potential safety hazards — rent from literally anywhere else

Hi everyone

Hi everyone. All the negative reviews you read on here are true. You’ll regret hiring a car through this company. Don’t be tempted by the cheap prices, it’ll end up costing you more and be a hugely stressful experience. Thankfully, we decided to walk away at reception after arguments ( attempted fines for collecting car 1 hour late and International driving licence lies to force you to buy extra insurance at huge cost) and decided to forfeit our hire car fee. We went straight to Hertz (at Rome Fiumicimo airport) and it was a total delight.

Absolutely SCAM of a company

Absolutely SCAM of a company - wish I had read the reviews before booking. We had the same scam as the others - refused to pick us up ⬆️ bless we agreed to pay an extra 120euro cash for their own insurance even though I told them I had already purchased fully comp from another company. Avoid at all costs - spend a few extra pounds on a reputable car hire company ON airport!!!

Carwiz is running fraud

Carwiz Houston airport is running a fraud. I had booked a car thru Priceline for April 17 thru 22nd for $165. Upon arrival at their office (which is inside a Ramada Inn) they said I must pay an extra $200 as "airport fees" which I refused. So no car. I called Priceline who said they are only a facilitator. So I lost the $165.

I had a terrible experience with Carwiz…

I had a terrible experience with Carwiz Rent A Car/Flex Car Rental in Orlando (2911 McCoy Rd). This place is completely untrustworthy.

I booked my rental through Expedia and paid 100% upfront, so there should have been no surprises. I only drove the car about 15 miles, returned it without any issues, and yet they still charged an additional $212 to my card without any prior notice or explanation. I told the check-in person that I don't need toll pass, and I showed him my insurance, so I don't need insurance as well. This company is a scammer. They never provide an agreement to me.

There was no clear communication, no justification, and no transparency—just an unauthorized charge after the fact. This feels extremely deceptive and unprofessional.

If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, avoid this company at all costs. There are plenty of reputable rental agencies out there—this is not one of them.

I have been charged £642

I have been charged £642. 28 on my credit card for an imaginary scratch that 2 other couples at Carwiz couldn't see either. The girl inspecting the car was using her nails to try to highlight where she could see a scratch. One of the couples told me it happened to some German friends of theirs the week before. With them taking the money from your credit card no insurance companies are going to be aware of how often this could be occuring. The car hire company is called Carwiz and we paid for the full protection policy when we booked. This company is based at Heathrow Airport. I have attached a photo of where the supposed scratch is. The girl inspecting the car also refused to send a copy of the photograph she took of 'the scratch'
I hindsight I wonder if I should have called the Police but obviously we had a flight to catch and needed to go to the Terminal. On investigating some of the reviews for Carwiz other people had also found themselves in that situation also. It is not just the vast amount being charged for a non existent scratch as we purchased full protection but I do believe this needs to be looked into. I will contact Citizens Advice regarding this situation.

DO NOT RENT FROM CARWIZ

I rented a car from Carwiz in Croatia. The price was good, but not so low in comparison to other companies to find it unbelievable. Often when I've rented a car a staff member has personally gone over and damage to a vehicle. They've shown claims worthy damage and let it be known that they weren't concerned about any previous minor damage. The Carwiz staff member was focused on showing us the tiny, nearly imperceptible damage. That should have been a clue. Nothing happened to the car on our trip. When we returned the car, a Carwise member went over every inch of the car with her face about 6 inches away. When we got back to the office I was informed that there was damage and that I would be charged for over $400 usd for it. No matter what we said were were basically told too bad. As far as I could tell, they collect money for the damages, but don't actually repair the car. The next day I looked ar some photos they provided when they rented the car to me. Mostly under the front bumper there was a 1 inch scratch on the underside, on a rubberysurface. The "damage" they charged me over $400 for was already there before I rented the car. I now have to deal with them again in an attempt to get my money back. DO NOT RENT FROM CARWIZ.

⭐☆☆☆☆

⭐☆☆☆☆ – Misleading insurance upsell at the counter. Avoid.

I rented a car through DiscoverCars (contract 26-MLA-3376) and paid for a full insurance package in advance. The only additional charge I was told to expect on arrival was a €30 young driver fee.

At the counter, the agent told me my DiscoverCars insurance was invalid and that I had to purchase their local policy. When I asked about skipping the extra insurance and just paying the standard deposit, he said that option was not available — which turned out to be completely false.

Feeling pressured and misled, I ended up paying €150 for 3 days of their most expensive SCDW package. After returning home, I confirmed that my original DiscoverCars policy was fully valid and actually offered broader coverage.

When I raised a complaint, Carwiz responded that I had been given a choice and signed the agreement. That is simply not true — I was told there was no alternative. Signing under false information is not informed consent.

I have filed a formal complaint and am pursuing a chargeback. I would strongly advise anyone renting here to insist on your rights at the counter and record the interaction if possible.

Be very wary about using this outfit

Be very wary about using this outfit in Malta. First of all, the car was great and everything went well....until we returned it to Carwiz. There was a tiny dent on the driver's door which must have been caused by another car driver opening their door against it. We hadn't even noticed it. If it was our car we'd have been momentarily annoyed but then would have just forgotten about it. The Carwiz operative classed it as a 'slight dent'. On checking his charge sheet, there are 2 classes of dent - slight dents are charged at EUR 649 and severe dents are charged at EU 749. What an absolute scam. In our opinion there is no way Carwiz will have had this dent repaired. Furthermore there seemed to be an issue in that the fuel gauge didn't quite show as full on returning the car despite us twice having tried to fill it (the hose at the garage cut off both times as though it was full). I explained this to the same operative who assured me that he'd overlook it but we were subsequently charged EU 16 for missing fuel, a charge that was trebled by a further admin charge. This operative proved to be dishonest.

Extra charges, no response

When I dropped off the car, they gave me a receipt with a lot of additional charges and then said there was no one available to explain these to me and that I should email them about it. I got no response to my multiple emails, they don't answer the phone, and nearly a month later, I still haven't gotten my deposit back.

Ruined part of my trip.

Ruined part of my trip.
This company is a scam, and please don't mess up your vacation by using them or other "no name" rental car companies. (There are several dishonest rental car companies brokered at the same office)
I made the mistake thinking that if they were listed on Booking.com (Priceline) that they were legit.
Here's what happens-
You get off your plane and you head to the rental car area. You look for "Carwiz" or Advantage or many other names they are using. You don't see it, so you pull out your booking.com paperwork, where there is a phone number. You call the number, and it has been disconnected. So you begin to freak. Then you Google Carwiz and you find another number, you call that number, and you get a recording that says "How would you like to get instructions on how to get your car? By email or text. You then get a text that tells you to go to public transportation and look for a shuttle that has these names (They list several of these illegit rental car company names). You go out to the street and wait for this shuttle. You finally see it and you get on it, and then the shuttle takes you to a shady office miles from the airport. There is only 1 person at the desk and you wait an hour for your turn and then the person asks you 20 questions. Then they tell you that you need to pay for their insurance. When you tell them that you will just use your auto insurance, then they ask who your insurance is. In my case it was Shelter Insurance. Then they say that that they need the insurance binder. So you call your wife and tell her to take a picture of the insurance binder, (All while 10 people stand behind you (no chairs to sit in) and then you tell them you have the insurance binder, and then they take your phone (Say what???) and take a picture of that, then they say, that they don't recognize Shelter as a legit insurance, and that they will need a $2000 deposit from you. (Then the people behind you start showing you what they have found out when they started searching if Carwiz was legit business - and reviews say not) So, that is when I say, give me my driver's license back and you walk out to the street and try to figure out how to get back to the rental car area at the airport.
Then you book a rental car with a reputable company such as Enterprise, Alamo, etc.
And it literally took 5mins to book my car at Enterprise.
I am still trying to get my money back, and booking.com has not sent me an email, which will allow me to review a review on booking.com
Honestly, I no longer trust booking.com since they are listing companies like this. Booking.com needs to wake up and not promote companies like this.

Stay away from Carwiz Bari!

Administration and service completely horror. They tried to bully us into buying an additional insurance, which was not needed. When that didn't work they invented all kind of problems with payment, including inventing the need for a card reader and not accepting debit cards.

Conned out of money at the front end, exploited at the back

Booked this vehicle through a link on lastminute.com. Drawn in by the incredibly reasonable price and convenience advertised.
Landed in Malta at 8:30pm, got to the car hire venue at 9:15pm and joined a queue of around 5.
It took the first customers nearly 30 minutes to get their car sorted. This was because they were being asked to pay additional fees that had not been in the previous notes or agreements.
After nearly an hour and a half we went to another car hire venue, prepared to sacrifice our rental monies and hire elsewhere, but the cost was more than we wanted, so we waited in line.
After more than two hours, we got to the front of the queue, only to be told that Carwiz prices are for the vehicle only and we needed to pay additional costs for the insurance.
We were told we would get a discount of 5 Euros per day because of how long we had waited, but the cheapest package was still an additional 125 Euros above the 46 Euros already paid, (nearly 175% more than we had been told the cost was and had expected to pay) for four days.
This hadn’t been budgeted for and made the overall cost more than 20 Euros more than if we had gone with the alternative option, (and every other provider,) and we waited over 2 hours for the privilege.
We had no option but to take the vehicle as all other providers had since closed, having managed through their customers quickly and efficiently, some arriving 45 minutes after us and leaving over an hour before us.
To compound the issue, garages were not easy to find in returning the car to the airport, so we were forced to leave the vehicle with just under a quarter of a tank used (on a small vehicle) recognising that there would be a higher fuel cost for doing this.
That higher fuel cost turned into a charge for 35 litres (which equates to a full tank for the vehicle) and a 37 Euro cost for the vehicle to be filled. With an overall cost of an additional 99 Euros for the pleasure.
Conned out of money at the front end, exploited at the back, and more than a suggestion of lying involved, I would advise every potential customer to shop elsewhere for the car hire needs.
The irony is that this customer manipulation was totally unnecessary as good service and fair costs would have garnered the queues anyway, and the queues would have moved faster because it was the repeat complaints that were holding up the process.
We didn’t get to our hotel until well after midnight so the other thing this experience cost was a relaxing transition into a lovely break.
I felt sorry for the many customers that were in the queue behind us, and extremely sorry for the single team member who was working to support the growing line of frustrated customers.
She did well, the company did not.

€2,000 charged, no documentation, no response

I had a very disappointing experience with Carwiz Rent a Car.

After returning the vehicle, I was charged €2,000 for minor scratches, even though the car already had visible wear and issues at pickup (including existing scratches and a trunk that was not closing properly).

The agent on site assured me that I would receive all photos and documentation by email so I could file a claim with my insurance. However, I have received nothing.

All my attempts to contact them have been ignored, and some of their listed email addresses are not even valid. Without the promised documentation, it is impossible for me to file a claim.

This lack of transparency and complete absence of communication is extremely concerning. I strongly recommend taking detailed photos and videos at pickup and return if you rent from this company, as resolving any issue afterward may be very difficult.

Don't be fooled by the low rates

Don't be fooled by the low rates.
I came prepared with my own travel auto coverage, just as I've done with every other rental car company. Unlike those companies, this one refused to accept it and aggressively pressured me into purchasing their own insurance instead. There was no flexibility, no courtesy — just a cold "take it or leave it" attitude that left me feeling trapped and frustrated. It is also why they have their rates as non-refundable - you get stuck that way.
By the time they were done piling on the extras, the "deal" I thought I was getting was long gone. Save yourself the stress and the money — you're honestly better off paying $45–$50 a day with a reputable rental company that respects your time, your choices, and your wallet. Humble location by the IAH Houston Airport.
