They communicated very well from start to finish. I had questions due to my inexperience with importing a vehicle, and they always promptly responded in a professional manner. I will use them again, and I recommend you do the same.

The Sambar truck I purchased online arrived and was exactly as advertised. Communication was great, any follow-up questions were answered promptly and all necessary documents required for US Customs arrived in a timely manner, leading to a hassle free import. It took only 5 weeks from the time I paid for the truck until it cleared customs in Tacoma WA.

I purchased a Honda Acty from Japan, and overall, it was a very positive experience. Ami was especially helpful and responsive throughout the entire process, which made everything much smoother.

That said, I was somewhat disappointed regarding the information about recent maintenance. I was told that the oil had been changed, but upon inspection, it had not been. While this did not overshadow the overall experience, I would advise future buyers to verify maintenance details independently rather than relying solely on what they are told.

Despite this issue, I would still describe my experience as a good one. I also strongly recommend saving all documentation to your computer and considering hiring a professional broker to assist with the import process. CFJ provides the necessary paperwork; however, they do not guide you through the steps required to properly use those documents for a smooth transition into the U.S. and successful vehicle registration.

Overall, a positive experience with a few lessons learned along the way!

I had a really solid experience buying my Toyota MR-S through Car From Japan. I’ll be honest I was nervous about importing a car at first, but the whole process ended up being way smoother than I expected.

Once I picked the car and sent payment, they handled all the export paperwork on their end, including deregistration and arranging shipping. They sent the Bill of Lading, Export Certificate, and invoice, which made everything straightforward when it came time to handle the import process here. Make sure you get a good customers broker!

Communication was good overall. Sometimes replies took a little longer or came in overnight, but that was mainly because of the time difference between Japan and the U.S., which is totally understandable. Whenever they did respond, they answered my questions clearly and professionally.

The car showed up exactly as described in the listing. The condition matched the photos and auction sheet, so there were no surprises other than the oil cap not being screwed on, probably more the shipping companies fault than anything. Easy fix.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend Car From Japan if you’re thinking about importing. The process was very organized, and way less stressful than I expected.

Very simple process and they guide you through the steps. Took about 4 months from ordering to getting registration through and driving in the UK.

I'm surprised at how reliable the van has been, even in the frigid weeather. I got the Kei van because I knew it would turn heads to promote my DJ business -- and any time I take it out, I get smiles.

It's natural to have some apprehension whenever you're buying a used vehicle. Combined with importing a car for the first time - I was more than a little afraid.

I wanted to provide a fair but accurate review. I have used this company multiple times, so I feel I’ve seen how they operate in different scenarios.

Their purchasing system and logistics are well set up. Buying a vehicle and getting it delivered to port is straightforward, and their complaints team does engage and respond.

My issues have been with the vehicles themselves. On more than one occasion I have received a car that did not match the condition implied by the listing. In one of my most recent purchase (a Kei truck), the photos showed a clean body, but on arrival there were multiple areas of rust that were not visible or mentioned. The truck also misfires and stalls, which started immediately on arrival.

I was offered $400 compensation, which in the UK after fees is around £280. This does not cover the cost of the bodywork alone, let alone mechanical repairs. If these issues had been disclosed before purchase, I would have accepted them as part of buying an older import. The problem is the lack of transparency.

I understand Car From Japan acts as an intermediary, but from a buyer’s perspective they are the platform advertising these vehicles. When a car arrives materially different from how it was presented, the responsibility shouldn’t simply stop with “the seller won’t offer more.”

I currently have another open case but will likely cut my losses rather than repeat this process.

I have also had vehicles from them that were fine, but based on my experience it can be luck of the draw. If you get a good one, great. If not, be prepared for significant repair costs with limited compensation.

The way to go if you want to import from Japan, as easy as you can get it.
