Stunning Photography Surfaces

As a food stylist in Sydney, Australia, beautiful surfaces are vital to my work. I have purchased a few times from capturebylucy.com and Lucy never disappoints. The product is the best worldwide as is the service and quality. Highly recommend

Capture by Lucy - A Dreadful Company

I purchased a vinyl backdrop from Capture by Lucy (Backdrops by Lucy) to use for product photography for my business.

On arrival, I took a single test photograph of some crystals placed on the vinyl to see if it worked for my needs. It didn’t, so I rolled it back up, returned it in the original tube, and informed Lucy by email that I would be returning it.

She replied, stating that she had seen the image on my Instagram account and that returns are not accepted once a backdrop has been “used. She said a refund would only be offered if the backdrop was returned in perfect condition.

The photo was uploaded to Instagram because it was a good photo of my product and was worth using, although the backdrop wasn't suitable.

After receiving the return, she claimed the backdrop had scratches, an indentation, and clamp marks, and offered only a 50% refund. The backdrop was never clamped and was used flat on a photography table. Vinyl is a durable material, and the tiny indentation shown in her photo was not caused by me.

She offered either to return the backdrop or issue a 50% refund. When I said I would open a PayPal dispute, a 50% refund was issued immediately, which prevented me from opening a full dispute. PayPal later ruled in the seller’s favour, stating the item was “as described”, despite the dispute being about the return, not the description.

While Capture by Lucy relies heavily on strict terms and conditions regarding “use”, I found the handling of this return unreasonable given the nature of photography accessories, where a test image is necessary.

There are many alternative suppliers of printed vinyl backdrops, and I would recommend considering those instead.
