This is hands down the worst bank in Spain

This is hands down one of the worst banking experiences I’ve ever had.

This place is disorganized, unresponsive and completely uninterested in helping its customers. Customer service is practically nonexistent. From my experience, emails go unanswered, calls lead nowhere and when you do get a response, it’s generic, dismissive, or outright wrong.

Simple issues turn into drawn-out nightmares. There is no accountability, no urgency and no clear communication. You’re left repeating yourself in the bank and wasting time while nothing gets resolved.

The systems feel outdated, processes are unclear and you’re constantly made to feel like you are the problem rather than the bank taking responsibility.
For something as important as handling people’s money, this level of incompetence is unacceptable.

If you value your time, sanity, or finances, look elsewhere.
I would strongly advise avoiding LaCaixa bank entirely!

Can we give a minus score?

It feels like the staff in this bank go out of their way to avoid dealing with you. “It’s not my department, this is not your branch, it is not my job” etc. No one takes responsibility and I have yet to get any service that feels like it is even slightly personalised.

I am now trying to close this account which is full of hidden charges and fees. This is proving difficult to impossible. Every person I speak with gives me different information. I honestly would not recommend this bank to my worse enemy and do recommend you avoid them at all costs.

I don't know where to start

I don't know where to start. I've been insulated by an agent and got robed 2 (twice yes) and there is no ownership and no empathy. İ am still having my funds in there but next week finally changing my bank after 6 years. So happy that I'm not a part of La Caixa anymore. Never suggested this crap.

Do not use this bank/insurance

If I could have given 0, I would have.

My experience as a non-resident experience with the Los Belones branch is beyond words, so bad.
In my case I am now talking to lawyer and going to file a complaint at the ombuds service!

To cut a very long story full of frustrating experiences very short: do not ever use this bank, nor the related insurances.
Extremely pushy in always trying to upsell to their clients, strangling expensive contracts which make you are stuck with them for 3 years, deliberately not responding to emails, calls and complaints so that for example your contract is renewed for a year, lying, not keeping promises, etc.
Very rude staff, not client oriented at all, always trying to put the fault in the shoes of the client where they are the ones delivering a bad service, “cover your ass” strategy and not responding to clients requests are the only 2 things they are good at!

I opened an account only yo get Vueling Visa as ITS only option to have it. Nobody answered me after I opened an account, so I immediately also closed my account. I think Vueling need yo consider other option to co-operations, as they probably have alot many customers using their service also.

Incredibly Bad Service For A Long Time Customer

To avoid a thousand word rant I will keep it simple. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS BANK. I have been a customer for 35 years and watched the service decline. During Xmas 2024 my wife and I decided to sell our property in Spain. We received incorrect information from Caixa on a number of occasions which cost my wife and I around 1000 euros. I am still awaiting some advice on a matter some 5 months after requesting it. 6 follow up requests have achieved a response that "the matter will be passed to our specialist team".

Over 4 weeks ago I attempted to close the account. This has become a joke. Every step of the way I have had to provide a screen shot of their own online website to confirm. WHAT???!!! I have officially complained to Caixa and my complaint was dismissed. This is now in the hands of The Bank Of Spain for arbitration.

Dreadful App

I must have tried ten times to get my card on my wallet on my phone..Every time it blocks me then I have to enter all my details all over again as it does not retain the information once you need to go back one step. I have several cards in my wallet and it was so easy to add them..not happy at all.

We found the staff arrogant to the point of being rude. With an appointment we waited half an hour beyond the appointed time. With no apology.
Best advice from someone with an employment history with decades in banking in UK and North America is to go elsewhere.

It was easier to open an account with…

It was easier to open an account with another bank in Spain than to get any help to resolve matters from my advisor or customer service. Other Spanish banks do not charge maintenance or transfer fees, but Caixa does and still blames Brexit—when in reality, it's just another way to exploit its customers. I’ve completely lost trust in this bank. What should have been honest and responsible money management has turned into a reason to move elsewhere to avoid conflict, hassel and save me time. I fully expect the social media manager to comment under this post with the usual “we’ll pass on your feedback” response. But given that similar complaints have been raised for years without any noticeable change, I have no hope anything will actually be done.

The worst customer experience I have…

The worst customer experience I have ever had. My account was restricted without notice stopping money going in but allowing bills to be paid out. Also the bank took money from the account without my consent, all this in same month. Instead of helping, the bank puts up barriers and made the situation worse. Staff were either not empowered to resolve issues or gave out conflicting information. Issues still unresolved, their answer is to go into the local branch, but there is not one in Ipswich, UK! This is a bank in crisis, treating its customers with utter contempt and without any respect. AVOID

This bank is outdated

This bank is outdated. They promise a lot for foreigners to open up an account with great offers, but when it comes to approval of your foreign tax sheets, everything get rejected. It is all valid, but they say no -or actually never come back with an answer. You wait for Godot. There is NO ONE to help or to ask, or take any responsibility of the amount of data you gave them. For me, a comepletely waste of time. And afterwardes they spam you.
In summary: a pain, not trustful nor working and just collecting data. Unbelievabl how this business model can exist.

Slow and untrustworthy

Very slow in responding to emails. Agreed on a % for a mortgage, but after some time CaixaBank unilaterally changed the rates, despite earlier written confirmation. Discussed with them , they corrected to the agreed %, but after 6 months Caixabank modified again back to a higher %. Am waiting for 3 weeks to get an appointment, thought that in the branch of Larios (main shopping street in Málaga) Caixa would have someone who speaks English, but no….

As a long-standing customer

As a long-standing customer, my son has inherited out Spanish property. We attempted to close our account, but the process was excessively complex. Consequently, I was only able to empty the account. Unfortunately, CaixaBank provided no assistance in this matter. They proceeded to renew a three-year house insurance policy without my explicit consent.

I am really angry with this bank

I am really angry with this bank. I have had fraudulent transactions on my card. Went to the bank and they said they cannot do anything about the money taken and they can’t stop it . The adviser said I have to wait until it is confirmed then report to the Guardia civil and we know nothing would be done . They can’t stop the transaction only the bank can. they are the bank , in other countries they would stop the transactions. Then we decide to cancel my card and the adviser asked if I wanted to cancel both physical and on line cards. I said yes, please. Tonight another of the same transactions was done and flagged up. I rang the bank asking why this was authorised on cancelled cards . It turned out the adviser did not cancel the online card just the physical. Same answer again : they can’t block the transaction so I have lost more money. Now the telephone adviser cancelled the on line card too.
All this is unbelievable , such poor service .
I have my salary going into that bank too but they really don’t value you as a customer .
