What a difference. After reading the above bad reviews

After reading the above bad reviews, we approached Bobo with great trepidation but decided we would find out for ourselves. We hired a Discoverer4 for the week end from the Cape Town branch. What a difference. Booking was easy and friendly. We arrived to collect and the paperwork was all ready and the staff friendly and helpful. On board training went well and we were off in good time. The vehicle was amazing, being clean and ready, fridge was cold too, we drove off. The Iveco 2.3 l engine and 8 speed auto gearbox on cruise control purred along at 100 km/hr easily, Piekenierskloof pass.. easy, plenty of power. Driving... comfortable for both of us. We arrived on site and it was plug n play. Not one single niggle the whole week end. This was a wonderful experience. Note: I was not requested or induced to write this review.

There were four of us and we had booked…

There were four of us and we had booked 2 Bobo Campers for our trip through Botswana in 2018. According to the car rental company – who was aware and had no objection to us wanting to drive off-road -this should be "absolutely no problem", but the campers proved to be completely unsuitable for the generally bad Botswana roads, which the car rental company certainly knew (or at least should have known). For example, the centre of gravity of the relatively high campers is completely unsuitable for the numerous and sometimes quite deep potholes on Botswana's roads and paths. Also, but this is only a small detail, the small additional petrol canisters in the cars would never have been sufficient for the relatively long distances from one petrol station to another.
In addition, the campers had been maintained extremely badly, or probably not at all. Already on the 1st day of the trip (still in Namibia) we had to call a mechanic 3 times to have the lights on one of the campers finally repaired.
At the 2nd camper the (locked) side door flapped open, so that we lost a petrol canister, soon after a drawer fell out of its bracket, and two days later the gas bottle broke out of one of the cars, together with the whole fixture.
In the middle of Moremi National Park one of the campers could not be started, locals had to give starting help with bare wires, because there was no jumper cable in the campers (and the next service station was of course miles away). How we (at least to some extent) managed the sandy road in the interior of Botswana with the completely unsuitable campers is still a mystery to us today (more experienced travellers we met on the way only shook their heads about the carelessness and irresponsibility of the car rental company).
Maybe Bobo Campers are suitable for asphalted, completely flat roads (e.g. for a city tour through Windhoek...), but never ever for even slightly demanding road conditions.
The miserable maintenance of the campers is another reason why we will never rent a Bobo Camper again.

Pure bait and switch program

Pure bait and switch program! Absolutely useless customer service. We took out a camper for 17 days and the microwave never worked, the car was not inspected after last rental. Water leaked from the AC and whole car rattled. When I called the second day to mention these items...they were like "we really can't do anything". I will never rent from them again, nor would I reccomend them to anyone.

Lousy customer service

We have just come back from a trip through South Africa and Botswana with a 4x4 camper of Bobo Campers and based on my experiences, I cannot recommend Bobo Campers to fellow campers travelling through Southern Africa.

Why? Our car broke down during the trip and the despite the fact that we had paid for the biggest insurance package they offered, we did not receive any kind of assistance by Bobo Campers. They did not stick to agreements, they did not call us back even though they promised to do so and their mechanic suggested solutions to the problem with the vehicle that were outright dangerous (if the local mechanic had followed his advice, we would for sure have been stuck in the bush).

What they were hiding behind was their idea that it was our fault that the vehicle broke. In the end we took care of everything ourselves and, as such, incurred a lot of unforeseen costs and we lost a couple of days of our holiday. We were told by the Bobo Camper staff in Johannesburg that upon return of the vehicle we would be discussing the matters with the management and the mechanic and that we would find a solution then. Disappointingly (but actually no surprise based on our previous experiences with their customer service) no one of the management or the technical staff was present. Up until today they cannot show us any proof that we were the cause for the problem while we have a variety of pictures as well as a testimonial of the local mechanic proofing that we did not do anything wrong. In fact, upon return of the vehicle we showed the staff present how the problem occurs, we let her drive the car and she experienced the same mechanical fault.

I am so surprised that a professional rental company such as Bobo Campers can afford such a lousy customer service. Before our vacation they were very kind and helpful but as soon as we got the vehicle and everything was paid for, their whole approach changed. From their fleet manager in Johannesburg up to the mechanic on the phone, they did not stick to what they promised us or to anything we agreed upon. We would never choose to hire a vehicle from Bobo Campers again.

Bobo Campers nearly wrecked my motor home trip to South Africa

Two words summarize Bobo Campers, unreliable and misleading:
Unreliable - they said they would book specific rest camps in Kruger but left it until far too late. When I finally realized what was going on in mid May all campsites had been booked out in Kruger except for a single campsite at Berg-en-dal. I know this because I booked directly with SANParks. Considering I originally contacted Bobo Campers in January for a holiday in late June early July this was gross negligence in my opinion. They are also unreliable in their communications. I got so tired of the excuses and the 'we'll get back to your shortly' which they never did.
Misleading - they have a 'chart' that summarizes customers experiences but no testimonials. This 'chart' implies that almost everyone is happy with their experience with Bobo Campers. A valid question is: Why don't they have a testimonials page like other reputable companies? Turns out there may be a good reason they only show a 'chart' that can not be verified. After extensive searching on the Internet I could only find negative testimonials about Bobo Campers. Words like "scam", "bad experience" figure prominently in the testimonials. What is singularly noticeable is a complete lack of positive testimonials (I could not find any). Even their Facebook is mostly self promotion and very little in the way of customer feedback. So if they are the largest and best in South Africa where is the evidence?
