If at first you don't succeed
As I am retired and my risk profile is "low" my financial adviser is always on the look out for ways to improve the performance of my portfolio. Recently, he proposed I transfer my pension to a provider whose fees were considerably lower than the current one. Unfortunately, the Channel Islands-based custodian threw up obstacle after obstacle to the proposed transfer, including levying a 10% transfer charge, Japanese tax law (this had not been an issue when the original investment was made) and UK IHT issues (I am resident in Japan). Not to be deterred, my financial adviser has searched around for alternative ways to reduce my costs and is currently looking at a new scheme, which hopefully will save me money whilst keeping the custodian happy. Full marks for effort, but four stars considering the result to date.

We are finding several trustees and jurisdictions put obstacles in the way of clients transferring their pensions nowadays - very annoying, as we always genuinely want the best outcome for clients. The BMP team is very responsive and proactive.
The BMP team is very responsive. They answer all my questions in detail.
They are also proactive. They found a better platform for my aggregated UK pensions and helped with the transfer from the old trustee to the new trustee. This was very time consuming for them, but they did it!
