Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless. Moving house and have some good quality conservative furniture we tried to donate to the store. Waited all morning for them to come and collect and then found it was cancelled. Apparently they had driven to the property, telephoned once (we just missed the call and phoned them back immediately but no answer) and drove off again. Didn't bother ringing doorbell and, given we were actually watching out of the window for them, we don't think they actually drove to the property at all. All lies. Don't bother. Donate elsewhere!
Staff - Disappointing, frosty, and ungrateful experience at Wandsworth branch
I walked about a mile with a bag full of items which is quite heavy to my local British heart foundation store in Wandsworth. I previously donated a lot of things to the store, including clothes and books and all sorts. They're welcome was never super friendly in the past but it was okay. This time around it was a very frosty and rather obstructive meeting. The lady was counting cash in the till when I arrived about 5:15 pm. I gave her a cheerful hello and said I have a few things here for you to sell. She didn't say hello back. She just said what kind of things do you have for us to sell - and I said all kinds of things. I showed a pristine Tie hanger. She said no we can't sell that. I showed her some ties. She said no we can't sell that. We only do electrical and furniture - I said okay I've got some electricals for you. I had an IKEA lamp. It's a desk workspace lamp. It just needed a bulb to go in it. And she said no we can't sell that its too complicated. She says we only sell those lamps over there and pointed it a range a very awful looking bedside table lamps. They were huge angle poise lamps in the window for sale not dissimilar to the IKEA one I had. She said no because you need a really complicated bulb for that and the condition is not very good. There was no Grace in the communication at all. No appreciation for me walking down there with all this stuff. Everything was rather blunt. I trudged home with my bag full of heavy goods. Some of it I'll try to sell on eBay some of it I'll probably throw in the local tip. There are some other items I was going to take to British heart foundation but I don't think I'll bother now - it's just not a very pleasant experience. I see others reported a similar experience from their own local stores. I understand that they can say they can't sell something - but they could at least show warmth and gratitude for the effort people put in to try and raise money for the British heart foundation.
Rude ignorant collection drivers.
Really rude collection driver. To one look at my wardrobe (a £500 double wardrobe with sliding full length mirrored doors) and said “not good condition, too big) and walked out of the bedroom. Won’t be getting y charity ever again. I’ve got a nearly new washing machine, a dining table and chairs, an American fridge freezer and an electric reclining sofa I was going to give to them when I move in with my other half. They won’t be getting those now due to rudeness of collection drivers. They have just lost about 3 grands worth of stuff they could have sold for at least £500 now
Booked a collection of a lot of goods…they didn’t do it!
Booked a collection of a lot of goods from my mother in laws house - to the Widnes, Cheshire store. Had to cancel this one due to a family emergency so rescheduled. The rescheduled date - the driver didn’t turn up despite me waiting an hour and a half. I was informed the driver had an emergency with his grandson - but no one told me that - I had to call to find out after two hours waiting, then spoke personally to the driver and rescheduled another collection. This appointment was then cancelled by the shop stating they had no room for anything. The appointment was rescheduled to today and as I have said on previous occasions that the van should be empty as there is a lot of things to collect and I had taken time off work to attend at the property where the items were.
I attended at 10.15am ( appointment was 10.30-11.30) by 11.45 there was a no show so I made enquiries with the shop who told me he will get to me but he’s on his rounds- I told her that this was an appointment we have tried to make on three occasions now, I had gone out of my way to attend by taking time from work and that the van will unlikely be empty if he “is on his rounds” . The woman said - No the van won’t be empty. I said then there is no real point in him coming then - and asked her to speak with him to find out what was going on and let me know.
I explained that I’m trying to help the charity and that things are not being adhered to in order to get the items to the shop. She did apologise and clearly it’s not her fault but someone somewhere here is totally incompetent. On our side of things , these items are holding up the furtherance of a house being photographed and going on sale ( for nearly 4 weeks now) and all we are trying to do is help a charity to make money. At the time of writing I have once again left the property with no contact regarding this collection of these goods.
Poor service towards the public who are trying to help the cause. I still have the items at the house
Great service, great charity and great to do business with.
Back again at this well presented branch of British Heart Foundation home furniture outlets.
Having donated and purchased previously, I find this shop and it's staff to be helpful and customer focussed; good for them and for their charity.
On this occasion I got a good condition teak-veneered bookcase for my music and reading room and a nice desk (to sink a broadcast mixing desk into).
Good prices and conditions with much variety brought to all by friendly and professional team members including Jack, Jamell and Janice.
Great service, great charity and great to do business with.
Thanks again team BHF, Felixstowe Road, Ipswich.
Chatham furniture store - sofas purchase
After visiting various charity shops I tried the Chatham branch. It had a wide vaiety of quality furniture. Samantha was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I found two sofas and she helped with options and arranged transport of goods. She made the visit to the shop a good one with her friendly and professional approach. Thank you again -
British Heart Foundation refused…
British Heart Foundation refused collection on my sofa has it had minor fraying apprently my cat did!!! Which I dont have. This is not the first time they refused collection. A month ago we cleared my mothers flat and they refused a microwave because we had forgotten to clean the filter. I offered to clean it while they were loading the other items and they refused, also a dinning chair because it one tiny mark.
I have visited their stores and seen items in worse condition. They have lost me has a customer.
Unclear and unrealistic expectations are alienating supporters
I donate instore and like to support charities like BHF so hate to leave this review really. But they really gave us a lot of stress that could have been avoided. They have extremely unrealistic expectations of the condition of furniture being donated and they don't make that clear before booking a collection. They apparently overbook as they expect to refuse several bits of furniture. But what that means (it seems) is the delivery people use this discretion to just choose items that are close to brand new and leave everything else. Ask for pictures before wasting everyone's time. The whole of BHF's furniture collection operation is simply creating many disgruntled people trying to do a good deed donating very nice serviceable and very saleable furniture then being inconvenienced because BHF expect furniture that is in brand new condition with no (even hidden) cosmetic defects. If you want that fine - but at least design a more robust collections approval process beforehand. We were left with a high end suite in nice cared for condition the day before a new one was due to arrive because BHF suddenly decided they didn't want the sofa because of a hidden cosmetic defect that you would never see in normal use of the item. I am speculating but I think it was an excuse as they said they had a van 'full of sofas already'. Won't be donating furniture again - its a shame but there you go.
We want to give one TV cabinet and one…
We want to give one TV cabinet and one chest bedroom cupboard to charity. We went to Kettering Heart Foundation on 2nd June show the pictures of the items we donate to charity. The staff in Kettering said they will not collect from our area and Corby Heart Foundation takes collection from our area and gave us the phone number of Corby store. When we called Corby they said to fill online form which are the items giving to charity. We filled the form of items giving them and booked collection on 6th June. And they send us email confirming that they will collect the items on 6th June.
On 6th June we took duty off and doing nothing and waiting for coming for collection. Upto afternoon there is no email or message from them. So we called Corby Heart Foundation. They said our items are not worth for collecting like that some nonsense.
We strongly believed or thought that the volunteers working for charity are helpful, friendly, cooperative, supportive, sincere, hardworking like that. But the truth or reality is not like that. They are rude, unfriendly, not cooperative, not showing any responsibility or show any passion in their work. They are coming only for timepass. Perhaps very few peoples are exemptional. They are doing volunteer work for helping others. 🙏🙏🙏.
Disgraceful attitude over donations
I have had a few dealing with BHF over many years and never had issue when it came to donating items wether they were to be collected or I took the items myself to store.
I really do not understand what has changed in there ability to collect items from donating customers there scrutiny is mind bogglingly unbelievable, I recently had several large items to donate so I went through the online procedure of listing what I had and times and dates they could be collected, within about hour of sending in my request for collection I received a phone call from a BHF representative telling me in no uncertain terms that they didn't want any of the items I had for donation, no real explanation was given at all, just that, they didn't want them. The woman I was speaking with came across as a bit abrupt, and even condescending, in my opinion. I was left thinking after phone call what a disgusting attitude this person had and I was quite upset and angry at this so called charity's total disregard for customers service.
These donations are the very life blood of charitable organisation, so for one like BHF to point blank refuse salable goods is nothing short of DISGRACEFUL.
Come BHF get your act together what on earth is going on with this charity and there terrible attitude to donating customers.
I noticed BHF respond to reviews with the standard excuse that warehouse allocation and or shops are full and not taking donations, absolutely utter rubbish, you are are responding and using the same nonsense excuse to justify laziness.
I will Never consider BHF, myself in future for any kind of donation.
Left me with a broken gate after driving into it when collecting furniture are not contactable because they don’t want to resolve it. I can’t get in touch with them now. now I am left with thousands
Had a piece of furniture collected from my property. The delivery driver drove into my gate and the entire thing fell down damaging the electrics on the gate. The insurance company for these people have not managed to get in touch with the British heart foundation or the delivery van people. And said that if they don’t get in touch, then the case just simply closes.
I’ve sent a letter of complaint to British heart foundation in which I’ve been ignored
So not only have I donated a piece of furniture they have left me with thousands of pounds worth of damage to my electric gate
I wish absolutely everything terrible on the British heart foundation and I hope they have absolutely no luck in what they try to achieve
I absolutely hate them. I wish you terrible things.
I should never have donated to you in the first place as you test on animals. I should have known better you’re a disgusting lot.
Waste of time offering donations
I offered my leather recliners, 2 seater and 3 seater, both were in a good condition. I had safety labels on both. I also had 2 Indian style coffee tables and pine chest. When the men came they looked at the sofas and I'm sure saw how heavy they may have been. I'm appalled at the excuses they made not to take them. They went on to take just the coffee tables and pine cabinet. All I can say is they must be getting very high quality donations and are extremely selective. I will never donate to them again and that includes cash as I do. Other charities are more deserving.
Sad to be reviewing a charity 1 star
Sad to be reviewing a charity 1 star. But the experience I just had with the furniture collection man was horrible. A very rude, unhelpful person. A couch, table and chairs all in perfect condition - not looking for a cent for it just thought it would be nice to go to charity or someone in need - and just because the driver woke up on the wrong side of the bed and decided every single 1 of my 10 solutions to get the furniture to the truck would not make his life easier (including me taking the furniture to the truck). What a horrible and rude man.
Awful organisation actively harming fundraising efforts
Wow! Wish I’d read the reviews! Seems they do this to everybody trying to donate. Booked a collection, transportation lads turn up and won’t take the items because wardrobe comes apart in 2 to make it easier to transport and the dresser has a small mark on. Why don’t they vet this stuff beforehand and then decline the donation instead of wasting everyone’s time!!
Absolute cowboys
Absolute cowboys. Yes they are a charity but that does not excuse incompetence, breaches of the law and rudeness by their staff. My son bought over £1000 worth of furniture from their Bridgend store in April 2026. Paid for it to be put together. They took 6 weeks to deliver even though everything was in stock blaming delays in assembling. This was a lie as nothing was delivered assembled. 2 weeks later nobody had contacted him to come and assemble. I finally rang the store to chase and the store manager was both incompetent and extremely rude. I would avoid these people like the plague. They are just crooks
I wanted to donate some furniture they…
I wanted to donate some furniture they refused.
Don't bother donating, they might leave you in the lurch
I tried to donate a wall unit using their website and had to wait just over a week for pickup.
When they came to pick it up, they said it was too large (the site listed a specific size), so they refused to accept it. They took a picture to confirm with the shop before refusing it.
They could've asked for a picture first to confirm, but they didn't. When I spoke to the store, they said it's not their process, even though they rejected it based on a photo from their pickup team. A true contradiction in process.
I'm now stuck with a unit, a new one arriving, nowhere to put it, and they're arrogant enough not to care about their rubbish process.
Unreliable House Clearance Service
I booked BHF flat clearance several weeks in advance of my move and paid £350 - (even though I was informed that the furniture I was donating was of exceptional quality ( the assessor said that they typically only receive such items around once a year).
On the day of the clearance, drivers didn’t turn up. When I phoned, the shop stated that one of the team had been taken ill and that there was no back-up. As I had an end of tenancy clean booked and needed to vacate the apartment the following day, this was obviously extremely stressful.
Clearance was rescheduled for the following morning and fortunately they did turn up. The 2 guys however didn’t really appear to be trained/experienced movers (knocking furniture into walls and therefore compromising my tenancy deposit)
The British Heart Foundation do not accept anything that is not almost new.
The British Heart Foundation do not explain that they will only accept practically new furniture. Be careful donating. The donation staff will look over your donation with a fine tooth comb and only take the best. I would suggest checking other, less critical charities that welcome stuff with the odd blemish.
Unreliable
Arranged two weeks ago for them to collect a three seater sofa and two armchairs. Only four years old and looking brand-new. I was offered Monday, the 25th of May between the hours of 10 and four. Friday prior I contacted the shop and mentioned that on Monday the 25th was a bank holiday. Fine for me, but was that still okay for BHF to collect as planned. I was told that was not a problem. They collected on a bank holiday. On Sunday, I received a text message saying that they would be coming Monday to collect the sofa and chairs. No one turned up. I rang multiple times Tuesday 26th of May left messages no answer and no one rang me back. In the end, I arranged for a local man with van to collect the settee and sofa and take them to the tip for me and I paid him for doing so. What a waste. Potentially they could’ve easily been sold for £300 or more. Not only did they waste my time but they lost money for the charity. I can only say that they are unreliable and I would be very wary if I were you of using them.
Whilst I appreciate it is a charity you do expect them to be professional and if nothing else would be good enough to ring me. Or in fact everybody who was going to have furniture collected on the bank holiday. If you are relying on them collecting furniture, just be careful because you may be left in the lurch.
