In the middle of watching Gladiator 1 (2000) 24/8/2026 ..next thing its gone???? And no longer on bbc 1 player. What the heck.

It's a pity that this is an unclaimed profile. I often wake up through the night and will grab my mobile and check the BBC news site. When you read the first sentence of an important, global item and, because of complete carelessness, it makes no sense; you can be sure you're on BBC's website. I've lost track of the number of times, when a formal opportunity arises online, that I've complained about this, but they carry on in their lax way. The mistakes are at best confusing, sometimes completely misleading; all because no-one checks copy properly before it's uploaded to the site. Quantity over quality; BBC's motto.

Horrible decision! What was one of my go to sources for news hasrecently, and unannounced, demanded a subscription fee to view their news.
Over the last year it’s been very disappointing, and extremely concerning, to now see how content, style and the reporting standards have deteriorated within the Cown Corporation.
Had the BBC maintained their historical integrity and professional standards I would have considered paying the subscription price. However, with other quality news sources available (The Guardian for one) who, thus far, have stayed true to the profession’s principles and ethical values I will support.
After 50 years following the BBC because of the quality and access I quit. And, I cannot fathom the BBC’s quality and value slide. I guess they are using the CBC business model.

(Did someone from the US invest in the BBC?)

Received another letter from the BBC regarding the licensing fee. The phrase 'demanding money with menaces' springs readily to mind.
According to the BBC's own figures, "The number of TV licences in force has dropped by two million (or 8%) in five years - from 25.3 million in 2020-21 to 23.3 million in 2025-26."
It is not all evasion as there will be many people, like myself, who are actively voting with their wallet.
The BBC should be put behind a pay wall.
Update - I have just read a comment that BBC is asking its viewers to input a code. Excellent. The BBC can save a fortune by sacking everyone in its TV licensing department and the cost of sending me letters every month.

I would have given a minus if I could it shouldn’t be called British Broadcasting Corporation it should be called British bullshit corporation the bbc should be defunded because all it shows is loads of repeats and absolute rubbish and they pay their presenters on tv and radio ridiculous amounts of money for basically doing nothing and that’s where your licence fee goes an absolute waste of money

I’ve just seen a new programme advertised on BBC1 its about sand sculpture, what next Let’s watch paint dry!! No doubt there probably will be the usual ‘celebrity’ version of this I’m sure! How is this even a thing that we are paying for out of our tv licence.

Instead of paying your same old presenters (that you never change and use for all different styles of programmes ie sports presenters presenting quiz programmes) 6 figure sums why don’t you put more of our licence money into some decent dramas, like most people on here I am considering leaving the BBC it’s a joke what your charging for the rubbish you provide.

Not good enough

Just had to renew my license not because I watch the BBC - I don't but because I watch live TV - mainly TNT Sports for which I have to pay a separate subscription. So I am forced to fund these grifters and their biased news coverage of Israel, Arday, etc. Why didn't BBC Verify investigate Arday's lies?!! Of course they didn't because the BBC promoted him in several short programmes.

I am absolutely livid. I pay my license and end up with a damned QR code to get in. No wonder people are leaving in droves. I expect INSTANT access when I pay my licence and everything worked fine earlier in the day. Infuriating random blocking. They should KNOW I am a license payer. Maybe I will now cancel my direct debit like so many others and depart this awful politically correct left wing organisation for good.

You never report anything that is positive. Just spread fake negativity to scare people. Shame on you

The BBC have completely ignored their longwave radio 4 listeners and switched off the transmitters. Not everyone is able to receive DAB, and to totally ignore their longwave listeners and deprive them of the service is absolutely disgraceful.

Ridiculous running costs with far too many presenters and yet far too many repeats which is unfair given we are constantly reminded the television licence is paid by us especially when programmes filmed abroad with no significant information with us paying for their holiday 😢

What has the BBC done for us?

It depends who the 'us' is. For 'celebrities' it has given many untalented people obscene amounts of 'public' (licence fee a tax like the poll tax) money.

For viewers, it generally treats viewers with contempt.

It is hard to believe that someone at the BBC thought that the 'tone deaf' 'advert for itself' was a good idea rather than an annoying waste of screen time and money.

Find BBC News grossly biased in their coverage of Israel for years. They simply never miss an opportunity to paint Israel in a negative light.

Right then, gather 'round, and let me tell you about the state of things. You'd think, wouldn't you, that after Australia, bless their cotton socks, decided they'd had enough of the Commonwealth Games, Scotland would have stepped up to the plate. And for a moment there, it felt like good news for us Brits. We had those fantastic tournaments in 2002, 2014, and then 'bostin' in 2022. Imagine Glasgow again, putting on a show, a real display of British pride.

But oh, the disappointment! No Hampden Park, no Ibrox. And loads of sports? Simply 'missing'. The whole thing was, frankly, abysmal.

Now, Birmingham. They hosted a cracking games just four years ago. So, when it was announced they'd be hosting the European Athletics Championships this year, I, a proud West Midlander, was over the moon. Excited, I was. Yes, admittedly, the stadium they picked is a bit basic. You wouldn't catch a premier league team slumming it in such a mediocre place. But 2022! It was packed.

Then comes this Monday. The shock! Some of the temporary stands? Gone. And the fans? Also gone!

Two utterly embarrassing tournaments this summer. Wimbledon's lost its sparkle, hasn't it? The Hundred cricket? Full of empty seats. And the Community Shield, for goodness sake, is in 'Cardiff', not Wembley, because some music concert is more important to the people who own our iconic stadium.

Oh yes, we know who owns it, don't we? Money-grubbing individuals who'd rather shove American football down our throats than our own game, the game of the world!

And who's covering much of this dismal sporting summer? The BBC, of course. Champions of political correctness, they must be having a field day with these new rules in athletics about women's sport. The fans? Clearly not enjoying it, judging by those empty stands!

Honestly, imagine if women's tennis started blurring out their chest areas when receiving serve! Just to be fair, you know? Because losing is so upsetting, let everyone win! No more 'earthy' language, oh no. Just plenty of 'half-time shows' like the ones we apparently enjoyed in New York last month. And elite analysts like Michael Johnson? Utterly redundant. The future is all about smiling faces spouting absolute nonsense.

It's quite something, isn't it, how in this increasingly distasteful modern sporting landscape, the 'old ways' are becoming more treasured. Compare the Isle of Man TT races with Formula 1. The 'safety car' has utterly ruined F1. Think about the British Grand Prix this summer!

Now, don't get me wrong, the BBC aren't entirely to blame for this dire sport. They didn't dream up these ridiculous guidelines for female coverage, for instance. But they just lap up the 'political coverage' when other channels have the good sense to steer clear.

And Gary Lineker. Never been a fan. His constant criticism of us Brits grates. Though, to his credit, he didn't back down when Jurgen Klopp, after that win – you know the one! – let rip. We all need to stand up to this political correctness. If the BBC won't, then frankly, enjoy your retirement, Auntie. And the money we save could be put to much, much better use.

Watching the european athletics, well i say watching the sport just listen to Gaby chat to her mates Logan chat for 45mins and counting. Wonder why shes called gaby?Bbc have really lost the plot for covering live sport these days. All because no brits involved should not come into it. I much rather watch any athletics than listen to these boring people talking what might happen. Just show it and we will see for ourselves. Glad not get the commonwealth games as doubt see much of it anyway.

The BBC invites comments upon very BBC-selected news items but then uses mysterious rules to block posts until some very simple edits are done. This is not free speech as such posts are not offensive in original form! It is just some curious BBC bias by moderators. As BBC keeps reminding us on their TV channels, we the public pay for the BBC but the BBC seems to limit our input. BBC are their own worst enemy when it comes to some political parties seeking to change their financing. Update: BBC fending off all comments by requiring email verification within a short timescale and if you miss their email request then a review goes nowhere. That is not a conversation just a crude filter.

The BBC Sounds app is a vital part of my day. There's such a great range of drama, comedy, factual and music, that I can always find something to suit my mood and interests. So useful to be able to subscribe to series and get notifications of when new episodes appear as well.

7 hours of cricket on BBC 2 today and BBC 1 mostly repeats. This is not value for money. Perhaps if they didn’t pay staff 6 figure sums to play records on the radio they might be able to afford to produce some new programmes.
