Never trust this company

Can borrow £60k today on pre-approval with my own bank, but can't get interest free for a mobile phone with these clowns!
Had an existing agreement for interest free on Amazon. Went to add to this for another purchase and checked my Barclays app. Well within the Credit limit they gave me and combined with my other agreement would have been less than a third of the monthly payment limit on my account. Agreement declined.
On phoning them, got the stock responses to 'check with the credit reference agencies'. I have a perfect record with Experian and Equifax and an Excellent rating with Transunion. I never use more than about 5% of my available credit on my cards and clear them monthly.

Absolutely terrible company to deal…

Absolutely terrible company to deal with. I had never missed a payment for years up until I lost my job and had financial difficulty.

The remaining balance was less than £200 but they called me almost daily and were extremely difficult to deal with and consistently defaulted and pestered me after letting them know I couldn’t pay. I understand that I missed stuff, but when I had loans in the 1000s and other debts to pay, those companies like Tesco were extremely helpful and did everything they could to help me and reduce stress.

Other companies put on pauses, didn’t ruin my credit file instantly and actually gave me some time to sort my situation out. They also barely contacted me gave me some breathing room.

Strongly advise not using this company.

keep calling me on my home number asking for someone that does not live here - they have called me 100 times now and will not stop although every time I tell them the name they quote does not live here, looks like I will need to take them to Court to get it stop.

Used for years

My wife and I have both used BPF for years, mostly with our Apple devices. It’s always been faultless, kept up to date worth things we need to know about and never had to chase anything. I note many of the reviews here are about failed finance checks, I can’t speak about these as haven’t experienced this and can imagine it’s frustrating, but there must be a reason.

My experience I would highly recommend BPF…

I had an Apple loan with BPF, and decided to pay it off early. However, when I paid by bacs transfer I entered the incorrect account information. I immediately emailed them, as it was a Sunday evening, and planned to follow up by phone the next day. A member of the team responded to me before I had the chance to call, and within a week the funds were returned to my bank account. I decided to call and clear the balance and the adviser was extremely helpful and nice. My experience has been nothing but positive with the Barclays team, but I can see from the bad reviews it seems to be more people being refused credit. Based on my dealings I would highly recommend them and want to give a special shout out to Angie in the customer relations team, she was brilliant and made my error a very stress free experience.

I have an excellent credit score but…

I have an excellent credit score but was turned down for the interest free loan for an Apple iPhone, I phoned the Barclays number as I was dumbfounded as to why I would not be accepted he said he could get someone to call me back and maybe apply by providing proof of incomings and outgoings, I said no thanks I will just buy the phone as I’m quite able to do this but I do want to raise a complaint as it seems to be false advertising. If you google Apple/Barclays interest free credit you will soon see that it is rare to be accepted, who wouldn’t take up this offer? But it appears to be very limited to a random few

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless. Email says payments can be made 24/7 through their automated system, however, after a long, drawn out process that could easily be streamlined the robot just keeps saying the lines are shut. I then tried the messaging service which they try and peddle which was even worse. Should have known from my experience with a Barclays credit card how terrible this would be, will not be using another Barclays product again.

Edit: finally got it to work by phoning again and doing the exact same thing. It took an age and was incredibly tedious. Awful service and greatly in need of improvement.

An update on your instalment account application

Unfortunately, your application for an instalment account with Barclays Partner Finance for your Amazon purchases has been unsuccessful, so we can't offer you finance. We've based our decision on a combination of reasons, which includes the checks we have in place as a responsible lender.

Unfortunately, we can't overturn a declined application, but we can support you with a new one if you think you might've given us incorrect information in your application. If you'd like to reapply, please call us on 0800 15 22 888*, or 0044 123 668 1763 from abroad - we're here Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 6pm.

How we made our decision

We use the information you provide in your application, and additional information from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. We may also use information from CIFAS, a fraud prevention service. In some cases, Experian may tell us that you've taken steps to stop us accessing your information.

The past two weeks I've spoken to three ladies on your team and I would like to say they have given me confidence once again in customer service after disgraceful treatment from Wickes over the past two years. It's reassuring that there is honestly reliability and customer values in the world today. Well done Barclays Partner Finance and a very merry Christmas to all. Kind regards

I have been refused twice despite…

I have been refused twice despite having a 999 credit rating and being able to afford a five bed home.first with Apple and now with Amazon. Perhaps these companies can afford to turn business away. I have never had problems with Klarna,Clearpay or Paypal. There seems to be a unfair system in place and i will not buy anything Barclays is attached to in the future.

No problem getting a £1,999 via Barclays Finance for an iPhone 16 Pro Max. It took about 10 seconds to approve which was good as when the phone was on pre-release I also was successful in getting their finance but pulled out as there was a long delivery time.

However, having used the phone for a couple of days I think I prefer my Samsung Fold 6 despite having an iPad Pro M4, and MacBook Pro and an iMac. The iPhone looks better but the screen is too small.

I’m now hoping I have no issues with the return as it was bought on finance and there’s a lack of clarity on both Apple’s and Barclays websites!

iPhone credit refused for no reason

I always take out a small interest free loan for my iPhone and it’s been with Barclays for the last few phones. I’ve just paid of my latest credit agreement and went to buy my new phone, only to be refused credit. I have a 999/999 credit score, no credit cards, a mortgage which is always overpaid on time and a well above average wage. I phoned and was told they would pass it to the underwriters. They requested 2 recent payslips, proof of identity, proof of address which I sent along with my recent Barclays finance agreement. They then requested two months bank statements and a document from HMRC, which I’m simply not willing to give them. This is for a £680 / £28 per month loan. It’s absolutely ridiculous! I will be complaing to them and also the financial ombudsman as there is no reason for this level of information. My mortgage was much less difficult to get.i would urge all of the others on here who have had the same experience to report them to the financial ombudsman immediately

Utterly useless

Attempted to buy an iphone (like many others in the reviews) and was turned down for 'affordability' reasons, but my credit score is at about 97%, I have spare money at the end of each month and I've never missed a payment or defaulted on anything ever in my entire half century on this planet. When ringing them they refused to tell me what the actual problem was, despite me threatening them with the ICO and a Subject Access Request. Absolutely useless organisation and I'll never attempt to buy anything on credit with the name Barclays in front of the lender ever again. I got my new phone, by buying it outright, but I shouldn't have had to. If a 0% deal is available, it's financially sensible to use it, after all. As it is, I'm now actually worse off in the long run since I no longer have the savings earning interest. So much for 'affordability' eh Barclays? Even 1 star is too much for them.

I applied to Barclays Finance for buy…

I applied to Barclays Finance for buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max. My application was rejected (about 3 to 4 times). I called Barclays to find out why my applications were rejected. The gentleman that I spoke to asked me a few questions about my medical condition. I explained to him that 6 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer (hence not back to work). He asked me to hold as he consults with his manager. He came back and said his manager said ‘although you are in remission, it doesn’t mean you are completely healed, so Barclays Finance doesn’t want to loose its money!’ I’m pained.
