Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 913 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People are extremely frustrated with excessively long phone wait times, automated systems that constantly fail to connect, and unhelpful customer support when trying to resolve critical payment and account issues. Consumers frequently deal with delayed deposits, unexpected transaction holds, and sudden account closures without proper advance notice. Though some customers encountered severe banking obstacles, a few reviewers were happy with specific branch staff who provided professional, attentive, and welcoming assistance. These positive interactions successfully resolved urgent matters and made certain branch visits smooth and genuinely reassuring despite widespread systemic frustrations.

I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU DID THIS TO ME!

I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU DID THIS TO ME!
After 20 years of banking with a different institution, I saw Bank of America open a lot of branches here in Salt Lake City so I decided to move my business over.

I went online last Friday and opened a checking account and a credit card with Bank of America.

I followed ALL THE STEPS NEEDED, entered all my personal information, including my Social Security number on their website, and received confirmation that my checking account and my credit card both were approved and I should be receiving both my debit card and credit card in the mail.

All good there.

I downloaded the app and the app prompted me to set up Zelle where I needed to disconnect Zelle from my old checking account with the other bank. I did. I even asked a few close family members to send me a dollar on Zelle, which I sent back to them right after, to make sure Zelle was working OK with this new account. It all went through just fine.

The BOA app also encouraged me to transfer money to make my first deposit. I moved over $4000 bank to bank from my old bank into this account through their secure site. It went through just fine.

Nowhere in this process, I got any prompt that the bank needed to see my ID in person. None.I went ahead and made about 15 changes in my personal finances over the weekend, from my employer’s direct deposit to my home and car insurance auto pay, to my tenant where they pay me rent through their bank autopay so everything started going to this new checking account.

Today I woke up and checked the Bank of America app and discovered that my checking account information was missing. I called their customer service and they were very rude to tell me my “account has been closed, that I will receive my $4,000 money in the mail IN A FEW WEEKS and that the account couldn’t be reopened” with no further explanation.

I received no email no call or no text message advising me of any security concern.

I went to a local BOA branch and spoke to a manager. She was very kind and understanding, but even when she called her support line, she was surprised by the lack of cooperation or options. Bank of America said they closed my “account because they couldn’t verify my identity”. I entered everything needed on their online application process, nowhere they asked for any further information from me. When I stopped by the branch today, I brought in my driver license and US passport and even so your support line would not allow the account to be reopened. They even said that I should receive my over $4000 in the mail in 3 to 4 weeks. I was a new customer, who deposited new money, who did nothing wrong and you would HOLD MY MONEY FOR THREE WEEKS AFTER REFUSING MY ACCOUNT. You would not even let me withdraw my own money. The manager ended up opening a new checking account so the money could get transferred to it so I could withdraw it from there.

I never had a worse banking experience.

BofA fraud department called me about…

BofA fraud department called me about if I had made a balance transfer request. I had and called them back. Totally spent over two hours on hold trying to contact fraud department. Spent an hour today still no one answers phone. Went to the local BofA branch and explained problem. They used a back number to call fraud department and were on hold for 75 minutes before they were disconnected. Unfortunmately BofA has lockedf all my access to my accounts

Pathetic company that is unethical

Pathetic company that is unethical. Years ago with my stellar credit (800+), I applied for a credit card and was rejected. Later I found out BOA had dropped off critical information from my application!

Later I had a fraud attempt (someone stole my identity and successfully got a bank account and credit card without my knowing until much later.

Forward another few years, with my stellar credit, I heard (from Motley Fool) about a great credit card offer and applied again. No reason given, but one of 2 (out of 100) rejections (both from BOA)!! What an idiot company. Now I see the average review is 1.3. Not surprising! How are they in business??!

Every branch you to go

Every branch you go to you get bad customer service. You are not met with a smile, just with attitude in their face. They don't greet you, and they are not friendly at all. I have witnessed them not being patient with the elderly and just rude to them. They are not very helpful at all. Maple Grove and Brooklyn Center, MN

I paid off my auto loan, they have taken over 600.00 and haven't returned any of it.

And, I'm trying to cancel autopay before they take more money out of my bank account! Their not open today it's Saturday. I have autopay set up, they will likely take my payment anyway, even if it's all paid for off on the 24th Monday (today's the 22nd), and I'll have Hell to get it back from them, this has happened before... my payment comes on first thing Monday morning... 2 of their telephone numbers are cut off when I call them, one number's busy, they say on their website 24/7 hour service, ahh, no, they're "open during the week, that from the websites MAIN NUMBER, no way I can cancel autopayments on the app, I've downloaded it to my phone and have spent about an hour on this... I've have to get my money back from them... this has happened before and you HAVE TO CALL THEM. THEY DON"T CARE.

Update: They did take my payment and it has been over 10 days and I've not gotten a check sent to me. I was mostly impressed when I had to visit their Ocala office and find out if they will refund my overpayment for the autoloan, they said within 10 days, that was over 10 days ago, and I've not gotten the check. Today, after om goodness just trying to get a notary signature from my Wells Fargo bank, I was affronted which I filed a complaint about at another location (they asked me) and was going to transfer my account there, they're stupid there too, though, I'm not kidding and the @#@ called the manager into her office with me there, wtf? Actually, they're both stupid they both convoluted their sentences, but stupid people don't understand that they're stupid. She was extortive in her service, and I told her so, that's when the f@#@ B@#@ called in the manager. He said, "she the smartest banker I've ever worked with and (has) integrity. Ok, I believe it lol. I went to another Wells Fargo location as I mentioned previously the woman there was competent and pleasant, I won't be banking with Bank of America and eventually not with Wells Fargo. I can't log into my loan account, so I'll have to make another trip to another B of A bank, they take your money and don't return it.

I was ripped off by not getting what I ordered from cinemark shop. I filed a dispute and they sided with cinemark and didn't give me a refund. They allowed another company to rip me off and get by with it!

I wish that I could leave 0 stars…

I wish that I could leave 0 stars because that is what they deserve. I have been with bank of america 36 years. I recently needed their assistance and they were no help. I have tried talking to people all the way up the ladder. Unfortunately the higher ups are downright rude and seem to actually enjoy saying no. I can hear it in their voice. What a lousy bank I would not recommend bank of america. They do not care about their customers and it shows shame on you bank of america. I will tell people the truth you have terrible customer service.

Account compromised & No Action!

Is anyone else experiencing compromised accounts, fraudulent activity, and absolutely no support or help on Bank of America's end? I've not received a single form of communication including the activity happening on my account nor any follow-up, they ignored my request for a provisional credit, and with daily phone calls happening on my end still no progress is being made. What a nightmare!

Absolutely a horrible bank with which to do business. Their website sucks, their A.I. crap sucks, and their customer service is NON-EXISTENT! I have only one account with them, and there is absolutely NO WAY I would open any other account with them. Honestly, they DO NOT EVEN HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE MEANS!

If I could leave less than one star

If I could leave less than one star I would! After being a customer for 8.5 years!!!!! I had to make a fraud claim! Now the fraud agent I spoke with I guess didn’t know what she was doing, then this charge from the same company 6 times, she filed each one individually and caused me to be flagged as a risk with my account! Without ANY warning what do ever!!! No email, no phone call, nothing….. I go to log into my account this morning and it would allow me to log in. I call and was informed my accounts were closed! My savings, my checking, even my joint checking account I have with my son who just moved into college this weekend, 7 hours from us! Took all of his savings and said they would mail me a check to our address!!!! Mean while I have no funds to send him, he had no funds, I have to wait for my money via check, he has to wait for his money to be mailed to me so I can mail it to him! I have a daughter on disability and has a caregiver and her money and the caregiver money is all deposited into that account, you can not change deposit information unless in person, which also means I have to close my business a whole day and I lose $300 a day to be close to change information!! I am getting married in 2 weeks and everything is set up from my account! So because my identity was hacked, I filed a claim, without any warning, 8.5 years as a customer just gone!!!! I was in tears for over an hour trying to figure out how to pay bills and make sure my son is ok, contacting vendors for my wedding! All because of this! And the last thing they said to me was, I’m so sorry, we understand, have a great rest of your day!!!!!! I wouldn’t in a MILLION years recommend this bank to any person I know! My family is already looking to change banks! Loyalty means nothing anymore! From someone else screw up from BOA, I get the butt end and the destruction and domino effect!

I would give a zero stars

I would give a zero stars, but not an option. I signed up for a credit card. Received credit card while I was away from home traveling. Upon arriving tried to activate the card and was unable as inactivity was deemed as suspicious activity, so I reapplied and received a second card with a lower credit limit. Tried to activate upon receiving and was unable to activate, Called help line and was told that I had to go to branch (which is one hour away from my rural location) to activate. I no longer wanted the card so was told I had to go to close account. When I told them I would not travel to close an account the person on the phone from BofA claimed to have activated the card. She lied!!! Was not activated so I went to the branch one hour away where only one of 3 non-teller desk types were helping customers. The teller looked up the account and said I could either wait for the only person helping customers who was occupied by a long winded customer or do nothing and the card would be deactivated? All this to give them business??? Worst national bank ever. Thank god the card is not activated so I never have to work these morons!

The worst company I have ever dealt with

The B of A website would not let me log on to my credit card account even though I was using a correct user name and password. I was prompted to change my password which I did. I tried logging on with my new password but was required to input a 6 digit code that they said they would send me. I requested the code and never received it. Requested it a second and third time and still did not receive. I then telephoned B of A and was put on hold for 48 minutes (shorter than normal wait time for me). The B of A rep told me that the only way to get access to my account was to go in person to one of their branches with 2 (or 3?) forms of photo ID. I explained that I don't drive and am disabled and cannot get to a branch. They basically said "tough".

Why is it impossible

Why is it impossible to just get someone on the phone? It literally goes round and round about 5 minutes with the same questions, then just to be put on hold and be told: “all of our associates are busy”. “We are experiencing high call volumes”.
15 minutes later…. You get someone.

Zero customer Support

I cannot begin to tell youth problems I’ve had with BOA. I paid a company to remove some trees and debris from my property. They dropped a tree on a power line, got scared, and left the scene. They left debris all over the my property and never even let us know. That was 6 months ago! I still have not received resolution. Been submitted three times and it’s been escalated twice. I highly recommend do not do business with this bank.
