I made the difficult decision to terminate my attorney after a year of representation and more than $20,000 in legal fees—with little to no meaningful progress on my case.
Throughout the process, I experienced repeated instances where direct questions were not answered transparently. Instead, I was often told, “you don’t understand procedure,” which felt dismissive rather than informative. As a client, I expected clear communication and guidance, not deflection.
I also never received a complete client file. The majority of the documents I ultimately obtained were through NYSCEF filings—many of which I had submitted myself while proceeding pro se at times. This was extremely concerning.
There was also a lack of consistency in staffing. I worked with three different paralegals over the course of my case, which disrupted continuity and added to the confusion. Additionally, two invoices appeared on the final day of representation that had never been previously issued and still do not appear in the client portal.
Overall, my experience with this firm was disorganized and unprofessional. I did not feel that my case was handled with the level of attention, transparency, or competence that such a serious matter requires.
My family and I are very grateful to the Sasser law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina, who have persisted with my daughter's insurance-based claim for disability. The firm has monitored her case for nearly 2 1/2 decades to a positive ruling. The Sasser firm has never failed to apply a comprehensive intelligence and knowledge of the law. We give Max Sasser and his team the highest rating possible.
Avvo attorneys are rude and obnoxious for no reason 💫💞
Avo is dishonest don't trust them I posted a review on a lawyer that was negative all they have is positive reviews on the lawyer and I made sure I followed all their community guidelines wrote it twice for that purpose and they just won't publish negative reviews they're dishonest
Avvo deletes most negative reviews. It even approves some and then removes them if the lawyer files a dispute. It is not a trustworthy platform. Due to its behavior and tendency to remove negative reviews, its rating system is meaningless. Do not trust anything on that website.
Avvo leaked my personal info to the dark web .Very untrustworthy as I see them . Bad bunch .......... Stay away . Do not trust your info to them .
I contacted Avvo seeking legal help and received no response at all. When someone reaches out in good faith, especially for something as important as legal guidance, being ignored is frustrating and unprofessional. Clear communication and timely follow-up should be the minimum standard. My experience showed neither, and that’s why I can’t recommend Avvo at this time.
I also want to caution others: Avvo operates more like a marketing platform than a client service company. Their focus is on selling visibility to attorneys, not on providing timely or reliable help to people who come here looking for answers. That explains why their overall rating is so low- and why my own outreach went ignored. Don’t waste your time expecting real communication here.
AVVO is a scam. I paid the admin fee and posted my question for an attorney to review. Now the owner of the website blocked my IP Address so I cannot access the information (if an attorney responded).
Avvo is clearly designed to belittle and harass consumers who are trying (legitimately) to file lawsuits against corporations for criminal offensses. This is evident when reading one consumer whose life was totally ruined by eBay. eBay clearly committing illegal acts of lying, cheating, and stealing thousands of dollars from a seller. The claim included serious criminal offenses committed by a California Corporation. And all these so called "Attorneys" did was attack the individual who was attempting to hold eBay accountable. Stay away from Avvo. Use common sense and file complaints at police stations, and other law enforcement agencies for criminal activity taking place at corporations. You can hold the CEO and President responsible. You will also see that eBay executives are currently serving time in jail already.
Do not trust Avvo. Avvo intentionally removes negative reviews. Avvo protects attorneys. Avvo is not in business to help customers.
Fake reviews posted real reviews are not posted.Stay away from avvo they are not publishing negative reviews in that way people on need loose cases by trusting fake reviews(I lost case due to fake reviews posted in avvo.
Sooner or later avvo has to be sued in class action lawsuit for the harm done to us
I was not allowed to share my experience of hiring a lawyer with other members of the community.
It seems that only positive experiences can be shared on this website, which is pointless in my opinion.
I believe that all opinions are important so that others can avoid scams and annoyances.
Really and truly the most fraudulent site out there. No matter how you alter your review they won’t post it. Lawyers pay for positive reviews and that’s all they’ll post.
I submitted a review discussing my bad experience. It stated “I hired so and so…” Avvo denied it saying I never stated I hired them. They went on to say I was falsely accusing the lawyer. Excuse me?? I didn’t see avvo in the room.
It’s unbelievable. If there was a way to post the emails Avvo sent me I would. They are mind blowing.
I wrote so many review times for my lawyers and always denied for malpractice lawyers. I believe AVVO did not take bad rating and probably works for lawyers.
I’ve had plenty of problems with them before where I could submit the exact same review over and over again and eventually it gets approved once it hits a reasonable approver. Today, I was told that I accused an attorney of illegal or an ethical conduct without providing any details.
Please look at the provided submission and tell me how I didn’t provide details. I did; their reasoning is bogus.
“Title - Walked into unnecessary services
These guys were clearly looking for an opportunity to make money off of us. My ex husband was apparently walked into an unnecessary mediation when for some unknown reason he called to get advice for an uncontested divorce. So, it was much to my surprise when they contacted me to schedule a mediation and then several weeks later asked for $300 for me. When I wrote them saying I never asked for this and I wasn’t paying them anything, I received a snarky imprudent response, which was my typical experience whenever there was conflict when I lived in Kendallville, from the owner essentially indicating I wasted his time.“
Garbage site. I asked a question, it got taken down. Yet the site still spams me with promotional offers.
A pretty pointless site. If you ask a question for guidance on where to look for information or what are some steps you can take the answer provides can usually be summed up to “I don’t know you should hire a lawyer”. Along with this the lawyers never respond on the site. Better of just using google
Avvo actively DOESN'T deliver my question to relevant attorneys sending them to unqualified ones or bots on purpose and then deletes EVERY question so I can't get help. It is obstruction of justice for the consumer. Again this is every question ongoing also there is deliberate race and gender discrimination to users to prevent the right attorneys from connecting and when you explicitly state the expertise of the attorney you seek the matrix is petty and offended because you don't need the attorney they want you to hire. Useless, unprofessional, hostile to inquiry and no support.
I asked a question about suing a Law Firm for Malpractice & Negligence. I never got a reply! Total radio silence. Which exemplifies that lawyers protect other lawyers when it comes to wrong doing. Enough said.
Read the (real) reviews on here, not the fake paid 5-star reviews. AVVO is a horrible place to seek unofficial legal advice and find an attorney. Most of the attorneys on there are just lawyers who don’t even practice law anymore. The lawyers on there are rude & unprofessional and AVVO them to remove & censor their own reviews. Save yourself the headache and just contact the bar directory in your state. My personal experience was with one specific attorney, J. Scott Scarbrough of Loveland, CO was absolutely horrible for no reason at all… but he is also infamous for reporting & scrubbing his reviews. And AVVO allows it?! Yet another red flag about this site, so just avoid AVVO at all cost.
