Very unimpressed with useless assistance from a Apple "Genius".

I needed help to identify the serial number for a stolen Ipad Pro for a police report and was told to go to the local Apple Store as they would be able to assist me.
The man that "helped" me was of no use as he couldn't find the number via my Icloud account.
I don't blame him for this BUT after I had submitted my police report (without a full serial number meaning that if retrieved, the item would not be returned to me), I discovered that by checking "My Devices" on my iPhone I could find the complete serial number - too late unfortunately for me.
I would have expected that this Apple expert would have that knowledge and that he would have suggested this, alas - he didn't.
