positive experience so far

The reviews here scared me into cancelling all of my preorders. However posting about it on instagram, a few figure enthusiasts came forward to let me know they had been using ami ami for years with no issues. And that they would recommend it.

So I decided to give it another try and placed an order on a preowned figure. The small packet shipping was reasonably priced and it arrived within the 1-2 week shipping time. Everything was safely packed and arrived in good condition.

I've now placed a preorder with them too.

I think it would take a lot of frequent cancellations or unpaid preorders with ami ami before they decide to ban or block you from purchasing with them. Which is reasonsable. I've cancelled prepaid preorders with dekai anime and solaris japan and they charge you 10% for a refund. It's an inconvinience to any company. Since you dont pay immediately when placing a preorder with ami ami there has to be a penalty for backing out of a preorder too often or too near the release period.

Avoid this store like the plague

Avoid this store like the plague. After paying multiple thousands of Euros on their website and having placed numerous pre-orders my account was suddenly closed and my pre-orders cancelled.

After roughly a week with back and forth messages with their support team, who answers relatively slowly, I found out that they closed my account because they assumed that I have multiple accounts and that goes against the rules because they saw that someone else with the same address as me has an account - I live in a massive apartment complex with hundreds of residents.

Let me make this clear: nobody reached out to confirm if I have multiple accounts, they did not give me a chance to prove that I do not and they never even informed me, I found out when trying to log in.

To make matters worse, I had an order that was paid 10 months prior, but which had not been shipped due to COVID restrictions. Of course they cancelled all of my POs and closed my account, but they didn't bother to refund my money until I brought it up.

To go even further, they have horrible anti-consumer practices: you cancel or can't pay too many orders? Your account is closed and you won't be able to make another.

Well, at least they reopened my account, but after cancelling the dozens of POs that I had lined up over the next few years it hardly mattered anymore because most of the items were out of stock and I don't even remember every single one of them.

CS never apologized for their massive failure, but they were careful enough to let me know that my account can be closed again in the future "if there are problems". The only problem here was their own incompetence.

I am surprised that a company that adopts such anti-consumer practices has not yet went bankrupt. Go shop on Solaris Japan or Tokyo Otaku Mode instead, at least there they treat you like a human being. 🤡

Refuses tracking and expects you to eat cost

Where to even begin, it's a good concept but they 100% refuse tracking numbers (even if you pay for it) and then close your account when you have to open a paypal claim because your item never came and they're refusing you tracking. Would not recommend based on the fact they're scammers.

My transaction with Amiami has been a real nightmare. Paid for a preordered rare Sailor Moon collectible 8+ months ago. I have been reaching out months for shipping updates with minimal response. They claimed item was shipped but no tracking info provided. Item is most likely lost in transit. Who knows maybe it was never shipped at all. I just $300. Just my luck. Stay away.

The costumer service reply fast, and it is easy to navigate to the categories you want.
Cheaper than other online anime figure shop.

AmiAmi is a great site for rare figures

AmiAmi, like Mandarake, works the same when it comes to calculating shipping. It depends on how many items you buy, or if it's one item but the length and width is larger and more than 10 x 8 x 4, it's more than likely your shopping fees will be more than 2,000 yen. Around 3,900 yen if there are several items purchased that exceeds 10 x 8 x 4. However, the above is only applicable if you choose DHL and the item is being shipped to the US. Other than that, I can't provide more details since those were based on my experiences with the site. Unlike Mandarake, AmiAmi is much more forgiving when it comes to requesting a cancelation for orders that's being processed, if not already. I don't recommend canceling an order more than twice since it's inconvenient for them to reserve it for you only to put it back in the shelves. Otherwise they offer a wide range of figures that's hard to find elsewhere. I managed to snag more than a dozen or so that I could never find on other sites, or sites that do offer them sell them for astronomically high prices that's far from affordable for most figure collectors. With that being said, I highly recommend AmiAmi! As I've mentioned earlier, be cautious and do some research before you order a particular item. Try to find out the length and width if possible. It'll make the estimation of shipping fees much easier and find out if it's something you can afford or not. Do note that if you choose to do this, the item you're interested in might already be sold out. Items that are highly sought after sell out so quickly.

The worst ever! Japan plaza is better!

Very poor, no customer service, hardly any stock of products (everything is out of stock). Was not able to get a price for shipping unless I placed an order and waited for them to work it out. Then when it came back as double what it should be (I know as I was buying the same size items from Japan Plaza) there was no option to cancel or edit the order, I did not buy the item so they barred me from buying from them for a month. I told them its fine, close my account as you're just terrible and disgusting to make people wait for a price and threaten them if they don't pay it, no matter what it costs. This is no way to do business, you have lost a customer who has more money than sense and who is a shopaholic, I will be sure to spread my opinion and experience across all the social media platforms I'm a member of as everyone should know what you're really like and that it's time to stop it.

I shall be glad to never visit your site ever again and will be happy to buy from your competitors!

You should be ashamed of your selves, you have no honour!

Thank Japan i chose AmiAmi for my first figma purchase

My two Figmas from AmiAmi came today all the way from Japan to Australia. It only took them 3 days from packing and shipping straight to my door via DHL Express. Shipping cost is 2,706 yen, which is only 32.42 Aud or 24.76 Usd. I had to pay 10% gst on top which is still a bargain as both figures would have costed me $159.00 retail each here in Australia. Also super impressed with the prompt customer service, updating me on the progress of my order via email. The speedy delivery and point by point tracking updates. If you’re looking for great anime figures for a bargain price, then there is no better option than AmiAmi.

They do not respect US customers

I have been using amiami for many years now but I will no longer. They do not care or respect customers from outside of Japan and specifically the US at all. They still offer EMS shipping without knowing if it will over be open to the US again. This means if you ordered a figure with EMS shipping before it closed you are either stuck with waiting until it opens or paying for DHL only. In my circumstance I chose EMS for a figure over a year ago and now that it has come out I can only use DHL which is almost the same price of the figure that I ordered which is outrageous. I had to cancel and because of this they closed my account saying that they no longer want to do business with me and closed all my orders and deleted my points saved from purchases.

I used to love AmiAmi...

I've used AmiAmi since 2013 with no problems. I know with COVID they won't be perfect and things will run a bit behind, but no other Japanese site I've ordered from during this time has been as slow as they are. I've had a paid figure that came out in October upgraded to Surface shipping in January, and it still hasn't been shipped out. I've had a couple other Surface packages from other sites sent out and delivered in this timeframe. I didn't use DHL since it costs almost as much as the figure itself, and I haven't gotten any responses from customer service almost 2 weeks later. Very frustrated.

Edit: Finally got a reply. Told me it shipped already, but there won't be any tracking, order updates, or notifications till it's in the US since it's via Surface...even though they initially told me I would be notified and other sites give me tracking for Surface right when it ships. Done after I get this figure.

Ami Ami a great site for new and pre owned figures but always read the grades of the pre owned items

Ami Ami has been great for me I am obsessed with S.H.Figuarts kamen rider but the problem with them is their prices go from reasonable to extortion on eBay Amazon etc. But on ami ami pre owned section you can get brand new figures for a very good price and this covers not just figuarts but nearly everything on their site I’ve made a few orders from them now and after a hiccup that was resolved by their amazing and incredibly patient team i have not had trouble since.
A head ups if you are ordering from their pre owned section they have a grade system letting you know of their condition A:being brand new B+:being opened with no visible damage and it declines from their so be carful and pay attention to what your item grade is.
My incident was where I had ordered a large order consisting of 6 S.H.Figuarts kamen rider figures 4 being of A and 2 being B+. The order was quick to the UK and on arrival unfortunately their war damage to the 2 B+ figures that was major unfortunately I don’t think they were inspected right but I’m not here to diss ami ami. I let them know and straight away they responded and a refund was agreed upon when the 2 items had been sent back and they also payed for their shipping and the money came back within a few days my only problem was I couldn’t get half my import fees back that I’d asked for but realistically thats Royal Mail charging that not ami ami so it was greedy of me to ask but since then I’ve had 2 or 3 orders with more planned and they have all been excellent truly one of the best sites to get Japanese figures from at very good prices but again if you plan to browse the pre owned section just always make you know exactly what grade your looking for and getting but apart from that absolutely excellent highly recommend for fans of anime tokusatsu and more

Anime Figures? AVOID

I know AmiAmi is probably the biggest retailer of Anime figures, but you should avoid it like plague for the following reasons:

1. No tax refund. Given that this .com site is exclusively an export seller, it is bizzare that they still charge you the 10% Japanese VAT and don't even offer you a way to claim tax refunds. While Jeff Bezos' company automatically deducts the tax for you.

2. Refusal to ship to proxy services like Tenso. Even if ordered from their .jp site or on amazn marketplace, they will unilaterally cancel the order if they see the address is a Japanese proxy. Why should they care what my address is? This is a direct violation of consumer law and an act of discrimination.

Further more, be aware that there's a high likelihood of your parcel being given UK custom charges. That is 20% of the value of the whole content (including Japanese VAT & Postage) + £8 RM or £12 PF handing fees. You might end up paying 50% more than what you think it would cost

Good experience!

This was the first time I ordered something from AmiAmi and I had a positive experience.
Of course the shipping wasn't as fast as declared, but in the website's homepage there's a HUGE "There will be some shipping delays because of the pandemic" banner, so I couldn't be mad at it.
The item was perfectly wrapped and boxed and got safely here (Italy) in twelve days.
There are two pre-orders I'm waiting for, I hope my experience will be as great as this. :)

I love AmiAmi!

I don't understand why AmiAmi got so many bad reviews here...!
I'm on this side since 8 years & getting 1 parcel nearly every month.
I never had any problems - until december 2020.
One of my bigger parcels was returned to them without any reasons at all. EMS wasn't able to explain why and DHL neither.
I contacted AmiAmi trough the support-page & told them the story. I told them, i'm okay with paying 2nd shipping because I somehow thought it may be my fault.
BUT they responded and told me, the shipping label had fallen off the parcel and that's why it got back to them.
AND: I don't have to pay 2nd shipping - they will pay it for me because it wasn't my fault.
HELLO!?? This service is awesome!?!? I think most people who got "bad" answers were just rude to them...! You can talk to them normally

Customer service makes it worth buying from here.

I've changed my review from 4 to 5 stars based on some recent orders.

In summary, an order was sent back and they shipped it out again, even paying the extra fees themselves. All with me lifting a finger. While it hadn't left the country, they were quick and informative when the problem occurred.

They may not be the cheapest option but when the difference is only a few £s, the customer service makes a world of difference.

Best compared to other similar online stores

Offered to lengthen payment deadline on this pandemic, from 1 week to 2 months to boot, nice gesture. Great sale and pre-owned section. Their pre-orders also closed longer than other stores. Their packaging is great, never had my items damaged/broken/bent, but for some it might feel overpacked (too much paper etc). So far I never had any problem with them. Their filter, search, and sort really need improvement. Since I started buying things from them back then, they did improve though, especially for cancellation and CS. Live chat was responsive and did answer my question.

Unprepared, Incapable, Failing

It's such a shame that I have to write this. I have made many, many purchases through their website as well as directly on my visits to Japan. As the likelihood of being able to physically shop there anytime soon is not plausible, I decided to splurge a bit and made an order on a bunch of second hand figures. I also have a preorder.

I'm very aware of the current and ongoing pandemic and the knock on effect it has had. However, I think Amiami are being a little underhanded about it. I do not recall having been forewarned as I placed my order that there was severe delays (translation: not shipping at all). In fact, they don't mention this until after you have coughed up your money.

Of course, DHL is still possibly running. But when shipping costs as much as or more than the order itself, and I know I will have a custom fee to pay when it arrives, I resigned myself to wait. That was back in November, and we are now almost at January.

According to their support page, some customers have been waiting since April - and still havent got their orders now.

Meanwhile, I placed an order with Mandarake on Boxing Day. I am pleased to say they had confirmed and shipped my order within 24 hours. I have checked the tracking, and it has shipped from Japan as well.

If Mandarake are somehow able to ship out, I fail to see how Amiami are sitting on orders. Perhaps they should stop demanding payment within a week until they have found a solution?

Unfortunately, after a loyal customer of nearly ten years, I will be closing my account once my orders arrive. I will be going elsewhere for my preorders. They are losing a lot of overseas business due to their inability to hold up their end of the bargain.

If other companies can, why can't they?
