1 star — Alamo Frankfurt Airport: Vehicle Downgrade, Misinformation, and a Request for a 5-Star Review

I booked a Compact SUV — a medical necessity for both my wife and I due to chronic back conditions. On arrival at Frankfurt Airport I was told no Compact SUV was available and I was being given a Kia Ceed estate instead. The desk agent then immediately attempted to charge me €250 extra to upgrade to a Volvo SUV to remedy their own fleet management failure. I declined and spent seven days in significant physical discomfort.

At collection, the agent told me with complete certainty that Terminal 3 car returns were not yet operational and I must return to Terminal 2. My own booking confirmation email had already stated Terminal 3 returns were effective from 19th May — he directly contradicted his own company's written instructions. On departure day I dropped my family at Terminal 3 departures and drove alone to Terminal 2, only to find the Alamo return lane closed, an alternative location also closed, and a staff member confirming the Terminal 3 facility had been fully operational all along. I had to make a frantic loop back across the airport while my wife managed our young children alone at departures.

The Assistant Branch Manager acknowledged in writing that a Compact SUV was reserved but a lower category vehicle was provided — in the same email where she claimed it is their policy to "always provide at least the booked category." She offered €50, declined to address my counter-proposal of €180, and in that same email personally requested a 5-star review. When I escalated to corporate customer services, my complaint was bounced straight back to the same branch, who formally closed the matter without further resolution.

They are getting 1-star because 0-stars is, unfortunately, not an option.

Chargeback filed with my credit card provider. Avoid.

WARNING. Do not rent from Alamo

WARNING: DO NOT RENT FROM ALAMO.DE – SCAMMERS AND THIEVES!

This company is an absolute disgrace! They scam customers by falsely charging for damages that don’t exist, adding outrageous fees, and making up excuses to steal your money. I was shocked to see the final bill – they blatantly ripped me off! Their customer service is useless, refusing to provide any help or explanations.

I want to warn everyone: DO NOT rent from Alamo.de unless you want to be scammed! This company operates like criminals, preying on unsuspecting customers. Avoid them at all costs unless you want to lose a fortune!

Huge Amount for Damage

First of all, Alamo and Enterprise are the same companies. I rented a car from Alamo at Frankfurt airport on July 20th. I rented from any car rental page on the internet. That's why my insurance was made through that internet company.
I rented the car from Frankfurt to Karlsruhe. On the way back, there was roadwork on the highway and it was raining. I think a gravel/small stone from another vehicle's tire hit the vehicle's windshield and a small scratch occurred. I didn't notice it because it was raining. When I returned the vehicle, the official noticed and this company deducted 750 EURO from my credit card for this incident. I talked to the manager there, Arne Gudjons, and they told me they couldn't do anything. As a result of the road work carried out by the German state, I had to pay 750 EURO because of the gravel/small stones that landed on the windshield of the car I rented for 127 EURO. They sent me all the expense invoices from Enterprise. Really, this is robbery. I am not satisfied at all and I do not recommend these two companies to anyone.

I rented a car

I rented a car, prepaid, on 7 March 2024 at FRANKFURT AIRPORT (FRA). Due to strikes they only had one car left, which I took as I had no option. As it was electric with a short range, I took full breakdown cover.
I discovered that the truck could not lock when we at our destination. I was the most difficult process to try and get assistance and in the end, after wasting almost a day to get the issue resolved, i left trying to get it resolved.
I was promised an upgrade voucher due to the fact that I took a big downgrade to what I had booked.
I have not heard back from Alamo/Enterprise in over a month

Alamo Germany

Hired a car in Munich using Check24 service to travel from Germany to Italy with my family for 10 days. Everything went smooth. Hired car had to be a Nissan Qashqai but upon a car pickup I actually got VW Tiguan which is even better as per my experience. I was scared with negative reviews on this and similar sites but in the end I have smooth experience. Also I was worrying they wouldn’t accept my driver’s license issued in Ukraine as I’m living in Germany for some time, but they did.

Alamo Miami airport - didnt charge extras- the competition does!!.

I actually had a reservation with a different car rental company (FOX) however, they charged me a lot of extras on top of the amount that was originally offered.
so I made a new last-minute reservation with Alamo from the shuttle back to Airport.
I was out of there with in 5 minutes, with a car.
paid EXACTLY what the offer said no extra for insurance no extra for toll-gate usage.
