Scam

Ordered via Kickstarter in December 2017. Still awaiting delivery nearly 3 years later, with no response to emails requesting refund.

Absolute Scam Artists

I backed this project on Kickstarter - what a regret.
The device sucks, the software sucks, the service sucks.
God knows what they are doing with the data they are siphoninh off our home networks.
Without a subscription plan, the device does absolutely nothing.
This really left a sour taste backing any Kickstarter project.

Really Really Really Bad Experience

Im not gonna drone on. Short story: Backed them one Kickstarter, over a year late, denied refunds, they constantly lied about delays (easy to prove by reading their own updates which contradict one another), then they go live and sell the item on Amazon before delivering to backers! THEN they threaten to sue anybody that leaves a bad comment (seriously! Look at the Kickstarter comment page!) LOL! WOW

Worst gadget I have purchased

Worst gadget I have purchased.
Aside from being hacked twice while running this, and the feeble info it provides, the app itself is clunky and errors more thank works and there is absolutely zero customer support - I mean they just don’t respond. To me or Paypal when I disputed the payment I made that they provided so subscription on my account for.
Seriously do not bother with piece of hypeware.

What is this thing anyway

Do you trust a Israelian firm lead by a Russian inside your network? Are you sure Akita is not a Trojan horse? Then buy it. I trusted mine and got weekly reports about the worst threats lurking in my network. All false. And they stopped my subscription every month despite timely payments. Oh and their weekly network assessments are without any information. No IP addresses no mac addresses. Only meaningless geek talk.

You don't like our device

You don't like our device? Post a negative comment about us on the internet? WE WILL SUE YOU! ... Pretty much the message they sent their backers who trusted them... we INVESTED in this company, and all they did was delay, delay, delay... to the point to where people were questioning if things were ever going to be delivered. The only updates we ever got was "shipping issues" and "Packaging issues"... all very vague and generic. Of course people are not going to trust or believe. Some people were very angry about this... So when Akita started delivering these devices which couldnt do much of what was claimed, people were still surprised. It was too late in Akitas eyes though, as because of the PEOPLES comments (not the failure of them delivering, or updating people, or poor money management), there was damage to their brand.

Steer clear. simple enough

Questionable business ethics

I backed this project back on April of 2018 and i'm still waiting for delivery.

I can't post a review of their product because I haven't even received it!

My experience with Akita has been terrible. They don't communicate well and appear to have questionable business ethics.

Stay away,

Lies and vapor

Lies and vapor
Advertising themselves as an American company, they turn out to be from Israel. They promised weekly updates but would often go silent for months at a time. Then updates they provided would turn out to be inaccurate with additional delays. They state shipping is included with the Kickstarter but almost two years later leverage a third party that won't ship without payment to them.
I can't even really review the product because I haven't received it. What I've read is that they are behind the times by not supporting 5GHz wireless and requiring a monthly subscription if you want more than basic notifications of threats.
These folks give other Kickstarters a bad name.

Be warned, dislike their product and they will sue you. I never got it to work.

I want to firstly point out that I post this review at great peril to myself. This company, based in a foreign country, has threatened to sue any American individuals posting a negative review of their product. See update #32 on their Kickstarter (before they delete it).

I backed the Akita Kickstarter at $89+shipping in January of 2018. Unlike many backers still posting in their comments, I did receive a unit, in the USA, in November of 2018 (despite a shipping SNAFU). Back to the thing about this company suing backers; I will admit that I received my unit prior to the "first listed on Amazon" date of March 2019.

I really wish I had the patience to detail how worthless this device is. I mean, I might get sued and this will be read in court some day... Here are a some key points from MY experience:

1. I literally could not do a factory reset on this device. I asked. I was informed exactly, "there is no factory reset feature".

2. I find literally no settings to choose from within the app. I think they focus on simplicity.. well they got that part right.

3. I was forced to choose one WiFi network. If you want to change, I had to email their support my WiFi ID and password. I wish I was making this up; I'm embarrassed to say that I did email this to them to change networks... (before I realized this country is not based in the USA btw)

4. In my troubleshooting, I asked for a user manual (none was included with the device); they never responded with a link for one. They may, or may not have one now; but at that time, I could not find any.

5. I still don't understand their subscription, or no-subscription just to get the device to work. Maybe you need one, they claim you don't? Idunno. At least, I "think" it's true that you have to pay for any technical assistance? (This statement is based on their "myths" clarification, verbatim from Akita: "..we provide risk resolution instructions. This does require an Advanced Subscription..For users who prefer the AKITA team to fix discovered security issues using a one-time service, that is available.."). In the end, I chose not to give this company any more of my money, so I cannot comment on this.

6. In the end, of the 137 iOT devices on my network, I never got a SINGLE ONE to show up within the app. So, I gave up, unplugged it from my network, changed my WiFi password, and I have watched this entertaining Kickstarter from the sidelines since. You really should research the feedback there before trusting this company with your network security.

Buy a Gryphon instead!!!!!!!

I, like thousands of others, bought an Akita. Well...I say “bought”, but that would imply that I gave Akita money and they gave me a product. What actually happened was that I paid Akita and they still haven’t sent me anything. The same can be said over and over by countless people. Those who have gotten theirs say the thing totally sucks, so no big loss I guess.

Save yourself the grief and buy a Gryphon mesh router instead.

Akita won’t refund the money.

Akita’s shipping company is now insisting on more money (for customs charges for a country I don’t live in ) .
I have been reading all the other reviews for Akita on the Kickstarter page as well as here on Trustpilot and now I have learnt that the product is allegedly ‘ not legal ‘ in Germany, where I live and that other buyers have had their items blocked and withheld by German customs.
Akita refuses to refund the money I have paid. If their product it so good why wouldn’t they refund the money.
They have also tainted Kickstarter’s name for me.

Avoid like the plague

Avoid like the plague! After two years still no product.. and THEN got an email saying they wouldn't/couldn't send it until extra taxes have been paid.. but with no instructions on how/where to pay such taxes. Several reports of people somehow paying these and even THEN... receiving nothing!

Even if it arrived tomorrow I would throw it in the bin. This whole product is based on trusting this company... Ha.. that's a laugh!!!

Don't go anywhere near this thieving lot.

18+ months of broken promises and still nothing

Scam? Pure incompetence? Both?

Facts: Akita missed every self imposed deadline to ship the product out. I'm still waiting even though they claimed to have shipped mine.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't spend a penny with them.

Obviously either a total scam

Obviously either a total scam, or just inept. Bad timeline, poor communication, no response to inquiries. FINALLY actually received something and I wouldn't ever actually plug it into my data! Wasted my money on a doorstop that is not reputable enough to actually use. Vendor was selling these with support before they fulfilled backers. I hope no one actually relies on it to function.
