Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 59 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people struggled to get through to anyone or receive timely and helpful responses, often finding calls or emails went unanswered or were met with dismissive attitudes. Customers frequently reported staff lacking compassion or displaying poor attitudes, and several were dissatisfied with unexpected charges and high fees for services. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the staff, describing individuals who were sympathetic, friendly, and provided valuable help, particularly through helplines and in-person interactions.

Walk in Bath fitted

When the initial sales person visited, he was very pleasant, he sold me the “dream”. I did say at the time that I have difficulty lifting my feet up and I can't sit on a seat that is to low (unless you want my neighbour who has training in lifting disabled people to come round every time I need to get out of the bath). I find people assume you are fine if you can stand up and walk forward for a few feet, they don't see that you can get incredibly tired and that turning around or dragging your left foot following the stroke can be incredibly painful. I was persuaded everything would be alright and my husband really wanted me to have a bath, as I used to love having baths. I probably needed a qualified stroke nurse or physiotherapist to be present.

I read the information we received a short while latter and as we have a real problem with damp and our bathroom extractor fan no longer worked. I suggested to my husband he should phone and add an extractor fan to the list of items we needed to be installed.

THE GOOD POINTS: The bath room door has been widened.
My new taps I ordered from the internet have been installed.
After fitting my own step.I can now have a shower.
There is one grab rail at the side of the bath.
We have a new bath.
There is a lot more room in the bathroom.

THE BAD POINTS:
I had to purchased a half step so I could step in to have a shower.
I have purchased a waterproof booster cushion, the seat is still to low, I have ordered another booster cushion to put on top.
The holder for the shower has been attached at a height that sticks out jabbing my side. As I have difficulties with balance, this makes me feel very sick when I am in the shower.
The second grab rail has not been fitted, this will be necessary if I am ever going to be able to get out of the bath.
The extractor fan has not been fitted.
Te tiles for around the bath have not been fitted.

Two people arrived for the fitting of the bathroom, one disappeared very quickly. The bath was left outside in our alley for two days. I informed the neighbours, they were not pleased.

The fitter phoned around for two days to get someone to help, as he could not bring the bath in on his own. He is a carpenter and a plumber and what he did was very good. He is not a tiler or an electrician.

On the last day he said he couldn't fit the extractor fan, as this would mean disconnecting the electricity?

He said he couldn't fit the tiles around the bath as the floor was to uneven and persuaded us that click tiling was better? He also said he would pass this on, but we would have to pay extra for our own workmen to fit the extractor fan and bathroom flooring. He put cement around the bath to fill in the gap.

The point of these baths is to make disabled peoples lives easier and give them confidence, so far I have only been upset and cried. If I hadn't purchased the step, I wouldn't even be able to get in the shower. I still can't safely have a bath. I have decided if this isn't sorted I am going to save up my state pension and in a couple of year I'll have enough to have it all ripped out and have a walk in shower and my chosen tiles fitted and I'll probably choose a different company. I think I said to the initial sales person, I need to be able to do things with out having to think about them, to feel normal.

Thank You for the Prompt and Useful Information

I'd like to thank Helen at Age UK Advice (Linhay House, Ashburton) for sending me a list of links to very useful information about the use of LPAs versus applying for Court of Protection. I really needed information from an independent source, and I have exactly what I need now. I also have a list of all the relevant organisations and government departments with contact information. Perfect.

I initially sent a DM to the Age UK Supporter Engagement Team on Twitter, got a very prompt reply to that (same day), and then made contact with Helen by email.

Thank you all very much.

Dear Grahame,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

I am so pleased to hear that you had such a positive experience with your local Age UK and the hairdresser sent.

Whilst we at the national charity work in partnership with local Age UK services, we do operate as separate and independent charities, with local Age UK’s responsible for their own products and services. As such I would recommend contacting your local Age UK directly to share your feedback with them.

Thank you once more for taking the time to leave such wonderful comments.

With warm wishes,

Hi Yvonne. I am so sorry that you were informed that you are unable to get help from someone at Age UK with your PIP. At Age UK we help people of both pension age and under, although our local partners may have some restrictions to how much they can do, dependant on their own funding and availability. We would like to look a bit further into this. Please could you email us at feedbackatageuk@feedback.org.uk with all the information about who you spoke to and where, we can then look into this further and try to get you help you need. Give to charities that deserve support

I fought my way through rush hour traffic to make a large donation to their Pontypridd shop. 15 minutes before closing the door was locked leaving both me, and a customer who had been told to come back later to collect stuff standing outside.

A pro tip for charities is not to upset donors or they will stop donating; which is what has happened here. Not only have they lost this, and future donations, but the gift aid that goes along with it.

Give your money to charities that deserve it.

This is a review about the poorly designed and fitted bathroom

This is a review about the modifications provided by the Age UK bathrooms. After serious consideration, I am writing this review to alert others to the mishaps and ongoing issues we face. We had a full new adaptable bathroom installed in June 2022.
The layout of the bathroom is not user friendly and will certainly not take a wheelchair or similar in the future as the doorway is now narrowed because of the radiator position.
From the outset, we realised that only 1 fitter was coming, despite being promised 2. This was a big job and the fitter provided was a sub-contractor of a sub-contractor. As such Age Uk have no powers over who gets the job.
We have had onoging issues with the electronic seating which is erratic and makes a grinding noise when lowered. Our local builder looked at it and suggested that under the bath was probably full of rubbish which was hindering the mechanism. The fitter had no pride in his work and so this isn't a suprise.
The bath drain does not empty fast and the chrome finish is coming off the fittings.
It is a shoddy job and for the cost simply a huge disapointment. We alerted Age UK 3 times to the issues with the fitter at the time he was here but they did little to remedy the issues. A huge waste of money and I am now saving up ofr decent fittings and possibly a redesign of the bathroom as it won't meet my needs in the future.
I think the staff at Age UK need to include an OT to help with the design and correct fitting of handrails. It was clear the fitter who came to us simply wanted to do a quick job and had zero knowledge of adaptable bathrooms. I cannot recommend this part of Age UK.
Update on 10th January: Zero reply from the HAndicare Company. They are simply not interested.

Waste of time

I contacted my local age uk branch about 18 months ago, the gentleman was very helpful some months after I spoke with them again,I'm very unwell at the moment and it was decided that I needed a occupational therapist to visit to help with adjustments fot bathing cooking etc I've waited 14 months still no occupational therapist today I called the office and was cut off I called back to be told a pack of lies the original person I spoke to was on another call the manager was in a meeting
I asked for Age uk telephone number, again twice on the phone for 20 minutes each time but never get a answer. But called back to make a donation and got answered immediately. Outrageous and complete waste of a morning trying to get some help.

An important charity

Quite despicable that people are leaving bad reviews for Age U.K. I volunteer for them by calling an elderly lady each week. They also provide services to the elderly such as check up calls and financial advice. What other charity helps the elderly so much?

I was watching your advert on Sky News

I was watching your advert on Sky News. The theme of the advert was that old people are lonely and feel invisible. The people used in the advert appeared to be in their 60s, or less. It caused me to feel that those who are really the invisible ones are the generation in their 80s and 90s. This is probably not the case as far as Age UK are concerned, but the advert does imply that even Age UK have forgotten those who are older than 65. Not a good advert for Age UK.

Handyperson service Hereford

Handyperson requested for Mum's curtain rail which had come down less than a year after being put up (by someone else) - very prompt service, saw what the problem was which had caused the old one to fall down (an error on the part of the previous fitter causing it to keep catching, getting stuck and having to be yanked to get it to draw which weakened the whole thing, I had had my suspicions) and all fitted now with no more problem!

Volunteer elsewhere

After filling out an application form, I have sent multiple texts/emails to the team in Leeds over the last few months trying to arrange an interview for volunteering and they don’t bother replying to you and act like they aren’t looking for volunteers. I’d recommend not wasting your time and instead try to volunteer somewhere else! It’s a shame as I was eager to volunteer.

Hello and thank you so much for wanting to volunteer for your Local Age UK. That's so kind of you, and I'm sure it's disappointing to not have heard back from them yet. If I may explain, like all local Age UKs, Age UK Leeds is an independent charity, responsible for their own management and day-to-day running. Age UK, the national charity, share a common brand to all local Age UKs, but we are not a head office or a governing body.
So I really recommend you contact the team at Leeds directly about this so that they can address your feedback. Their complaints procedure is on their website here: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/leeds/about-us/contact-us/complaints-comments-and-compliements/

This is no charity

This is no charity. They dont care about helping people. This is a company trying to make money using the excuse of charity. It makes me angry when they dont want to collect a perfectly good electric reclining natuzzi sofa that has no damage apart from some of the pain on the searing area looking dull. They drivers didnt even take their shoes off to view the sofa and they didnt want it. Its not a sofa for the bin. Charity my back side
