Customers frequently complained that customer service was unhelpful, with agents abruptly hanging up calls or failing to assist properly. People also mentioned frustratingly long wait times and very slow responses when trying to get assistance over the phone or via chat. Consumers found the online website extremely difficult to navigate and noted that submitted cases were often closed almost immediately without proper attention. Action Fraud has no interest in the individual

I was scammed out of £3000 online and I reported it to action fraud. After several months, I got a response that Action Fraud would not be looking into my case. I submitted a complaint and tried to get a reason but I got nowhere. Action Fraud's only response was they did not have the resources to look into my case.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you are not satisfied with the level of service you have received. Whilst we cannot comment on individual reports, please be advised that the Action Fraud service helps many victims of crime dealing with in excess of 50,000 crime and information reports per month.

Fraud is the fastest-growing crime in the UK and as such there will be occasions where offenders cannot be identified or offenders based outside the UK, that criminal justice outcomes are not always achievable.

While not all reports have sufficient information or leads to prompt distribution to a police force, many thousands do. Fraudsters are being brought to justice as a result of Action Fraud and the work of the City of London Police and forces across the country.

Unnecessary BEAUROCRACY

Called to report a phone call attempting to extort money. The man I spoke to was pleasant, I gave name, email, phone number and described the incident in full, at this point i has given all the salient information. I was told that I should complete an online form and that he would talk me through it. Ten minutes later I had still not completed the required security information. At the point where one of the security answers that i had given was too short, I told the staff member that I was unwilling to go any further, thanked him and terminated the call. THIS IS ABSOLUTE MADNESS, BEAUROCRACY GONE MAD. I had already given the necessary information. So, the incident is unreported......how many more are there?

Hacked and robbed and nothing.

Had a betting account hacked into and was robbed of 300 quid, I gave reports and was pretty much told they can't do anything, absolutely useless service literally not helpful at all and a waste of my time.

I am sorry to hear about this recent experience. However, Action Fraud is the national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, and takes crime and information reports on behalf of the police and gives advice and fraud prevention guidance. Action Fraud does not have investigation powers, however, the reports taken by Action Fraud are sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) which is run by the City of London Police, the national lead force for fraud. The NFIB collates and analyses intelligence on fraud, identifying viable lines of enquiry and developing packages for distribution to a force for investigating.

It is the responsibility of forces to assess the information referred to them and decide whether or not to commence an investigation based on the viability of leads and other criteria that they take into account when assessing cases. Once a report is transferred from Action Fraud, any resulting enforcement action lies with the receiving Police Force who should contact the victim with an update. If a viable lead is not identified, the crime details are retained by the NFIB.

Thank you very much feedback.

Impersonation and identity theft

In 2021 I have been a victim of identity theft and impersonation. My Facebook account has been taken over by hundreds of uknown people to me. I riporter to Action Fraud. Instead of helping me out they sent me the Ambulance and the Police multiple times. They tooked me to a Mental Health Hospital because I have been calling them too many times. If I knew I would never ever contact Action Fraud. My life has become completely broken afterwards. I do not reccomend to anyone to contact Action Fraud at all.

Even with a clear point to pursue no action

Even with a clear point to pursue like a phone number the report is closed as "it has not been possible to identify a line of enquiry which a law enforcement organisation in the United Kingdom could pursue".

It's even more frustrating when a company is involved who could clearly provide this information on receiving a request from law enforcement, but not a member of the public.

So instead we see the phone number still appearing on a list of known fraud sources.

Action Fraud does not have investigation powers, however, the reports taken by Action Fraud are sent to our colleagues the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), also run by the City of London Police, the national lead force for fraud. The NFIB collates and analyses intelligence on fraud, identifying viable lines of enquiry and developing packages for distribution to a force for investigating.

The NFIB’s systems assess reports of fraud and cyber crime from across the UK, helping to build a national picture of where fraud and internet crime is taking place and how. Experts review the data from these reports to decide whether there is enough information to send to a police force for investigation. However, it is not possible to investigate every report received.

The NFIB aim to respond to the vast majority of reports within 28 working days, but it can take longer so your patience is appreciated. After your report has been assessed you will be notified of the outcome. If your report is sent to a police force for investigation, you will be told which force it has gone to. Unfortunately, Action Fraud cannot guarantee or prompt a police investigation, but if you have any further information related to your report that you would like to add, please update the web reporting tool using your NFRC and password via the website (www.actionfraud.police.uk).

My review was removed

My review was removed, so I will post again. Action Fraud has not helped me in anyway and the scammer still has accounts on Instagram and Facebook. This means more victims. As we live in a country of free speech I seriously hope that this time around my review won't be deleted. The whole experience of being scammed has left a deep impact and I had nowhere to turn. It is upsetting to see that the scammer is allowed to just do what he wants to do which is destroying lives.

A waste of time.

The first call I made, I waited for over 10 minutes to get through and then my call was dropped. The second call I made was answered by someone that was extremely unhelpful and couldn’t explain anything about improving my security or how scammers could have obtained my name and mobile number. What a waste of time and effort. A wholly ridiculous service.

I’m sorry to hear about your negative experience.

Please if you haven't done this already contact your bank to alert them about the theft. We would like to be able to help through this horrible experience, so please could you submit a report with all the information that you have about this crime.

All reports are sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), part of the City of London Police. It is for the NFIB to decide what information is referred to Police Forces for investigation.

Every report made to Action Fraud provides information building a better picture of the scale of fraud that is happening, and to build up intelligence on fraud offences to aid police investigations and the development of counter-fraud initiatives. The more frauds reported, the more likely it is that related fraud reports will be matched and help identify lines of enquiry that can be pursued.

If a viable lead is not identified, the crime details are retained by the NFIB. Reports at the NFIB are assessed daily for viable leads and links to other criminality, the data you provided may link to another crime.

Not surprises to see these negative feedbacks - it is a shame there is no minus star option.
After long report and phone conversations about organised criminal group of people who robbed 100s of people for at least last 10 years using the same scam I was referred to civil court. While admitting themselves they are aware of that group of people but unfortunately they can't help.

A complete waste of time and effort. Don’t bother.

Like most of the other reviewers on here, I found so-called ‘Action Fraud’ to be completely and utterly useless. I had all the details of the crime that had taken place - name, address, dates, invoices etc etc - and they subsequently did precisely NOTHING!!! If anything they made the situation even more distressing by offering the prospect of justice only for me to later discover this was but a pitiful illusion. An absolute disgrace of an organisation who should be held accountable for their complete indifference and ‘inaction’ - maybe I could report them to Action Fraud? I’m willing to bet whoever runs this shabby and embarrassing enterprise is on a healthy six-figure salary (with a nice pension and expenses) for doing sweet F.A. Utterly disgusting and should be either be properly resourced so they can do the job they promise to do or be shut down ASAP. My genuine advice to you if you have been defrauded? Don’t bother - you will only waste your time ‘jumping through hoops’ and end up feeling as angry and frustrated as I did. By far, the worst ‘public service’ I have ever encountered or experienced. Truly pathetic. I expect their frankly insulting ‘cookie cutter’ response to follow soon.

Completely useless service and if I…

Completely useless service and if I could give it zero stars I would.
All they appear to do is take your report, do nothing at all with it and at the 28 day point, an automatic reply is generated saying they do not have enough information to pursue a line of enquiry.
The fact that you cannot now report fraud to the police directly (as they direct you to action fraud) just shows all that action fraud really is, is a way to fudge the police figures by claiming they have reviewed the matter within 28 days and then claiming they don't have enough to go on. It is just a way to manipulate the figures and give the police the opportunity to do nothing.

In my case, I had full evidence what happened, had the fraudsters bank account details, his actual real name and his actual address he resides at, but after 28 days on the dot, Action Fraud came back and said they did not have enough to pursue a line of enquiry with the police. What do they want to actually do anything, a video recording of the person signing a confession in blood!

Absolutely ridiculous service that has just been put in place to fudge the police figures

Better off keeping it to yourself

Better off keeping it to yourself, within the last half year had a brutal scam £2500 stolen as well as someone breaking into my car stealing around £500 worth, tonnes of evidence behind both, still nothing. All near the time of a minor court case for a separate traffic incident where they maximised charges on the fine as much as possible and banning me from driving for a month for my first ever offence. Couldn't afford renewal for my car insurance for months being the only driver in my household, 0 remorse, avoiding the legal system at all costs from now on. They refused to provide the police footage of me getting pulled over after I begged for it. 1.5mm on a car just purchased and i showed a receipt of purchase of tyres on the same day to be fitted next day.

Complete waste of time and effort No stars

I contacted this company after The Royal Hotel in Whitley Bay and Booking.com did not pay a refund. They are clearly scamming me and Action Fraud could not care less. Having contacted them on a another matter last year I noted the communications were standard letters, not even personal. Probably sent to everyone. They do not do anything. They are a waste of tome and energy. why are they allowed to operate? It seems anyone is allowed to scam you and take money they cannot be touched, this company aids and supports such companies and people.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you are not satisfied with the level of service you have received.

When any report of fraud is made the information is placed on the NFIB’s intelligence system. Due to the volume of frauds reported, they are assessed through a technical system initially which scores the viability of investigation for each. This assessment considers a number of factors including any linked reports and the suspect information provided, those that meet a required threshold will then be analysed by a crime reviewer.

There are certain preliminary enquiries that need to be conducted to ensure the report is passed to the correct police force to investigate and that they have enough information to consider an investigation. Action Fraud and the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau do not investigate crime but do record and assess reports made by members of the public to determine if these are suitable to be sent to a particular police force to decide upon an investigation method.
