My daughter did online schooling via…

My daughter did online schooling via council/ school, they are extremely supportive teachers, if you didn’t understand something they would take the time to explain in a way she understood, after missing years of main stream schooling due to health.academy 21 helped her catch up, she’s now in college studying and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the help and support getting here we couldn’t have done it without you

Did this online school, was incredibly accessible, rewarding in a sense of receiving digital certificates for my engagement and progress, teachers all made sure you understood and were incredibly welcoming.

Not fit for purpose

Not fit for purpose, science was displaying slides, whilst talking and
asking questions whilst expecting the child to answer .. some kids can’t read a slide, answer questions and listen to questions at the same time. Some teachers are great, but majority aren’t fit to teach.special needs such as adhd is also not considered, I watched my son as quests several times in science and was ignored so he just stopped bothering

Wouldn't recommend

Service was commissioned by the local authority for us, on the surface it looked fine so happy to give it a go. Wish we hadn't. Academy 21 don't seem to communicate with parents, all our communication about various issues we have has had to go through the local authority. Our child's EHCP specifically states that a new education provision must assess where he is at with his learning so they have a baseline to monitor from (particularly important as he has been out of school for an extended period of time so is behind), his previous tutor from the council's temporary provision also wanted to arrange a meeting between her and Academy 21 as this is very obviously just good practice to understand where a child is at and thus know what support they need but apparently Academy 21 don't do that sort of thing. So our child is just dropped late in a term into lessons with no understanding of where he is in his knowledge and thus no plan to address the significant gaps in his knowledge. Hardly setting him up for success.

No support for SEN, no engagement with parents. An online PRU that couldn’t care about pupil outcomes

I was told, as a parent, that Academy 21 ‘does not engage with parents’ wow. So they primarily teach pupils with additional needs, have no sign of a senco or any differentiation, and they point blank refuse to speak to parents on any point what so ever?
Avoid like the plague. Except from email after trying to ask a class teacher (bearing in mind my child is effectively non-verbal, so she’s not going to request any info herself):
‘They do not encourage parents to get involved in lessons as teachers need to focus exclusively on the learning of all students. In addition to this, teachers communicate via mentors to avoid confusion and miscommunication with parents.’
