These monsters can't even return a phone call. They're supposed to be providing mental health. GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!

My first experience with a therapist
My first experience with a therapist. Altho it seemed scrioted and the therapist inexperienced in the CBT techniques I was hoping to learn. I thought I could be honest and admit thag I had had suicidal thoughts but no means, or plsn. They could not get past it. After asking several times to get on with the techniques they wouldnt so I hing up on her. Then they called my husband and when he didn’t answer the cops. Lesson learned - don’t be honest with a therapist.
The cops came thinking it was an abuse call. We are furious and humiliated.
UHC joined at the hip with AbleTo
The problem is that 90% of the therapists listed on the UHC website are associated with AbleTo.
0 Stars if I could (NO CALL, NO SHOW)
0 Stars if I could. I booked an appointment with Robert Padilla LCSW for today at noon. I understand that today is a holiday but he had almost a week to notify me that he wouldn't be attending the session. Instead I waited for close to 20 minutes. No call, no show, no postcard. This is beyond unprofessional. I'm going to them to help with mental health and they made me feel worse by not keeping their commitments. Why even allow me to book an appointment on this date if you're not even going to show up.
Way over priced
Way over priced. I had to pay $160 to answer a checklist over the phone for a person to say I was depressed. I was then scheduled another appointment, which cost me $125 for me to try and make conversation, again over the phone. The following week I got a phone call from the therapist, canceling our appointment that he had scheduled. Not worth your time or money. I feel cheated and by a company trying to make money off of people going through a hard time. I was never told how much it would cost. The therapist told me about $25. When I tried to protest, I was told I should have checked with my insurance first. They should have their prices clearly displayed on the website.
The WORST mental health platform
Upfront: Ableto requires a 24 hour notice to cancel any appointments. I scheduled my initial consultation for an evening that would work for me. I got an email on the DAY OF my appointment rescheduling me to another day that wouldn’t work for me. I entered the portal to reschedule. Most of the available appointments were for weekday daytime appointments. I tried to cancel instead of rescheduling but you can’t do that in their portal. So, I tried calling during ableto’s business hours and was on hold for only FIVE minutes before I got a message saying that they couldn’t take my call and to leave a message for them to call me back. (????) That’s not exactly convenient so I took the next available appointment for the next day and the therapist I spoke to did not have availability for the times that would work for me so she found another therapist and scheduled me for another evening appointment. Once again, ON THE DAY of my appointment, the therapist I was scheduled with called me to tell me she couldn’t make it. I decided that I was no longer interested in trying to navigate ableto’s platform essentially by myself so I asked the therapist not to reschedule me and to close out my account. This is the poorest service I have ever come across and I’m baffled as to why BlueCrossBlueShield recommends this service. If you try to get mental health help with BCBS, their site navigates to ableto’s. There are plenty of therapists in my town that work with BCBS and I will be going local instead of ever using ableto ever again.
TLDR: zero stars. Do not recommend. Poor customer service and client experience.
Horrible, passive aggressive, and dismissive
The initial intake person was really great and explained the short term therapy process. It’s not my preference but I understood what I was getting and was willing to give it a try. Once I started with my assigned “therapist” (Mariana Gumm, LCSW) she was very rude, dismissive, and condescending. After that initial session, I emailed her my feedback in a thoughtful and direct manner and informed her that these services were not for me and to take care. Since then, she has emailed me back passive aggressive responses about how many good reviews she has and how I’m wrong about my experience. I stopped responded since it is very clear that she is not interested in constructive feedback and will keep trying to have the last word. Very in appropriate behavior from a mental health professional.
I work in mental health. I can appreciate how difficult it must be to deliver quality care through a streamlined service like this. However, there can still be ways to provide client centered, and adequate care no matter the setting. The fact that this is what my insurance referred me to is so disheartening.
I attempted to submit feedback to Able To but there is no way to do so on their website and I have not heard back from my attempt to email them. I wonder why they would not be interested in hearing client feedback.
Please don't waste your time, you're worth so much more than this company. Hands down.
The therapist I did my initial consultation with was wonderful. He made me feel comfortable and made a lot of sense (even while clearly doing a check the box kind of evaluation) worse than a doctors office. This company needs a therapist of its own. Making money off of people who barely have an issue, while turning away people who just want to talk about what's causing theirs. Ableto should be shut down, this kind of thing will send people who are truly hurting and seeking help into a spiral much worse than where they started. Don't waste your time or money. This is NOT what real therapy is.
Not worth the time
This company seems to think that unless you meet their criteria (ensuring their success) you're not worth helping. I was even told I was too sick to participate. They kept saying for me to talk to my insurance case manager (I don't have one) and that they would send referrals (they never did). This is a scam -- only help those people you deem fit and toss the rest on their ear.
Do not use this company for any…
Do not use this company for any postpartum issues. They will call CPS simply on a sleep deprived mother who is struggling rather than help.
I understand the value of streamlining…
I understand the value of streamlining therapy post pandemic, but this is ridiculous. I get 2 phone calls a week, they just check boxes (which I can hear them doing) and reading scripts. This is making therapy into as insightful as an online Cosmo survey.
The worst
Intake rep asked for mental health record even though it was not required by the primary insurance. This company seems to operate under a customer-last philosophy and the whole content feels canned and cookie cutter. Locked out of account; Tech support did not fix for 3 weeks (lost sessions) and customer support did not escalate the issue despite multiple calls. Once able to log in, unable to join sessions and content was locked. The efficacy of the program is low.
