’ve been a WP Engine customer for over 10 years, hosting close to 100 sites with them—some on smaller plans, others on P3 plans costing over $3,000 a month. For years I had a great experience and considered them a trusted partner. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case.
Support quality has declined, and there’s far less transparency about resources and usage. We’re regularly encouraged to upgrade plans, but no relevant data is provided to justify the upsell. Different agents often give conflicting answers about what platform or plan is needed for the same client, which feels inconsistent and frustrating.
The breaking point for me came during a large migration of about 70 clients to WP Engine. We agreed on the process, timeline, and server needs and were promised a two‑month free onboarding period while we moved clients over. Instead, the account was set up for ACH billing under a non‑existent email address. We had no notifications and didn’t realize we were being billed from the start.
Three months in, I discovered we were at risk of losing hosting for a critical client on a Premium server. I was told to switch to credit card billing (which back‑charged four months) and assured the first two months would be refunded. It’s been over three months since then, with multiple follow‑ups, and no refund has been issued. Now I’m told there’s no record of the agreement, despite having at least one email confirming it.
After years of loyalty and significant spend, this experience has been incredibly disappointing. If you choose to work with WP Engine, get everything in writing—do not rely on verbal or video call agreements.

Brian Waje from the support team is a hero! He managed to fix issues with our wp database caused by our old hosting provider and get us all migrated over to WP Engine. Thank you!!!

WP Engine own a plugin called WP Offload Media, and WP Engine provides support. When you purchase this plugin what they dont disclose is that if you say purchase a 20,000 image plan but you have already offloaded 18,000 images prior to signing up to the paid plan then they count the 18,000 images you have already offloaded in the total for the plan so you would be left with just 2000 images to offload.
No where do they mention this at the time of writing on their website demonstrating not only that this is a screw the customer activity but that they are clearly a highly unethical company not disclosing this. If you are considering purchasing this plugin or any WP engine product just run and purchase someone else’s. Don’t waste your money with this company as you will be disappointed and there are so many better options.

I was able to reach Live support fairly easily, and the support tech was very patient with my low level of expertise as a "webmaster". He explained steps he could take to upgrade the WP version on our site, and answered my questions clearly. Based on what he told me, I have a different way to attempt to get the WP version updated if there are problems in the future.
Most of the time, WPE handles all updates for plugins and WP versions automatically, and keeps me informed. When something doesn't work, their agents are always patient and helpful.

We upgraded our plan and later realized the cost shown only reflected the base plan, not the additional charges for addons. We immediately clicked to downgrade, and the system said someone would contact us but no one did. After several days, I followed up, only to be told no request had been received, despite having submitted one.
Trying to sort out the charges and obtain a refund has been a nightmare. Support repeatedly claimed a refund was issued, but the amounts do not match what’s shown in our WPEngine portal. The credit PDF referenced in our account isn’t accessible, and when I brought it up, they blamed their IT department yet the issue remains unresolved days later.
We also spoke with someone by phone who said they would escalate the issue to billing and call us back. That call never came. This entire experience has been incredibly disappointing, and based on the lack of support and transparency, I can no longer recommend WPEngine to others.
Update: They started a ticket for me again when I reached out on the 14th to hear back about the billing situation and it is now the 18th and no update.
Update: I am trying to respond to your request for information on TrustPilot but it says: You can’t submit additional information to WP Engine because the deadline has passed.

I would recommend WP Engine to anyone interested in buying hosting. Their customer support is exceptional. We have had only good experiences with their hosting.

Absolutely DO NOT risk your business with this circus. After migrating just a single site, it took 20 mins to get past the stupid (NOT A.I) chat bot, to get to low level support. Only to be told they had to refer to a senior engineer for something that shouldn't of happened in the first place.
After far too much hassle, the site was live and I instantly starting receiving warnings about DDos attacks.
At this point, I switched my DNS back and requested a refund.
I've been with WPE before and it was the mickey mouse support and infrastucture that made me leave the first time. I believe these things "sometimes" deserve a second chance, but not WPEngine.

Great Experience with WP Engine
Their technical support is automated and it works most of the time. When the support was not enough to fix the problem, I was transferred to a support person who did the heavy lifting until my problem was solved.

I would rate my experience with WPEngine as a 10 out of 10. I could not be more pleased with the service I received from Shyrelle. The speed, concern, and response were greater than I could have expected. She resolved my issue most efficiently, demonstrating professionalism and a genuine concern for my time and effort. As a small business owner, I expect to have to do everything on my own and am incredibly grateful when I come across a company that is willing to take on my burden and allow me to focus on what is most important. THANK YOU Shyrelle Ramiez, for your assistance.

During a particularly stressful period the WPE support staff stayed with me as we worked through hosting and site infrastructure issues. They always ensure that all questions are answered clearly and confirm status and action plans. This is the team you want when your site is mission critical.

I've been with FlyWheel for years and stayed on after WP Engine acquired them. When WP Engine approached me with a hosting plan that would save me money and give me more features, I decided to make the move. During the transition, they worked with me to consolidate everything into one plan—more features, lower cost, and a first-year discount. Carlos, my account manager, made the process easy. Onboarding was smooth thanks to Marisol, who was friendly and super helpful. They handled the migration, which is never fun, but it went mostly without a hitch. Anytime I had questions or needed help getting used to the new dashboard, chat support was responsive and clear. My sites are running smoothly and updating without issues. Overall, I’m very happy with the move to WP Engine.

The AI chatbot didn't understand my problem but quickly transferred me to an agent. Once I authenticated the agent was quickly able to help with my problem (needed a restore from backup), but also provided a link I could bookmark that takes me directly to the appropriate page. I would definitely work with this agent again.

The task of a Host Provider is to offer the infrastructure and services needed to run a website on the internet. WP Engine does that. But what separates them from the competition is the ease of use of their dashboard/backend as well as their stellar customer support! I need the peace of mind that I have someone one my side if I have a host issue and WP Engine does just that. I could choose any host provider and I'll always choose WP Engine.
