Ads, trackers, adult content and phishing are blocked at the network, so there is nothing to install on each phone, tablet, console or smart TV. Parents get controls they can run from their phone: filtering, pausing the internet on one device, schedules that end screen time at bedtime, SafeSearch enforcement, and app blocking with social media included. Pausing and schedules work per device on every model. Per-device filtering, SafeSearch and app blocking come with Shield Edge and Shield Vault; on Shield Core those apply to the whole network at once. Every Shield encrypts its own root and payload filesystems, with a per-device key bound to the board's secure element rather than one key shared across the fleet. Shield Vault adds a 256 GB encrypted internal SSD, native Time Machine backups for Macs, a private media library and travel Wi-Fi that needs no cable. Shield Edge adds file sharing and a media library on a USB disk you supply, plus travel Wi-Fi over a wired uplink. Everything runs on your own network rather than in a vendor cloud. There is no account, no telemetry and no subscription. If the company disappeared tomorrow every Shield would keep working, because there is no activation server and no cloud login.
