Great genealogy software for free (if you have a webserver)

webtrees is open source software for genealogists. It is designed to be cooperative, so multiple editors can contribute. It is one of the best in compliancy with the GEDCOM standard. So a family tree created with another program can be imported into webtrees (and vice versa.)
Since the software is written in PHP, it is meant to run on a web server and accessed as any other website on the internet. Your own website. So you need to have web hosting, or run a server on your own PC with eg XAMPP.
The development team and support community usually reacts promptly to any question you ask in the forum on this website.
