Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 150 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the company's subscription practices, particularly regarding the cancellation of "lifetime" memberships without prior notice or explanation. Customers also reported issues with the service itself, finding it unreliable and often not working as expected, especially with streaming services. The customer service was frequently described as unresponsive and unhelpful, leaving many feeling ignored and frustrated. The primary concern for many customers revolved around the company's decision to revoke lifetime subscriptions after an acquisition, with people feeling that the company failed to honor previous agreements. This led to a strong sense of betrayal and a lack of trust in the company's commitment to its customers.

We understand your frustration — and we know it feels like a broken promise.

The Lifetime license you purchased was sold by the previous owner, and when we acquired only the infrastructure in 2023, we didn’t receive any contracts, payments, or legal obligations. Still, we kept those accounts active for two additional years, fully at our own cost.

We know that’s not the outcome you expected — and we respect your disappointment.

Another user here who got his lifetime subscription canceled without any warning at all. Silver lining: I probably shouldn't trust a company who is that sloppy with their due diligence anyway, so good riddance.

Canceled all lifetime memberships

Honestly we should be able to give zero stars. What a bunch of scumbags. So they decided to cancel and not honor lifetime subscriptions. The excuse? We didn't know about them. Yeah right. Then they have the nerve to tell people nu uhh its not our fault we make bad business decisions. Send out some POS Chat GPT e-mail and call it good. If you do any digging into these scumbags they also sell PENIS pills (perfect-penis.com.) You know they are not keeping your data secure while also selling fake pills to people. Scumbags of the earth. Time for a class action.

Company can't be trusted

Paid for a lifetime subscription, but the new owners refuse to honor it because they "failed to do their due diligence".

Whether through incompetence or deliberate maliciousness, if they aren't willing to honor previous commitments, what else aren't they willing to honor in the name of profit?

A Long Road to Rebuild Confidence

The new owners have a lot of confidence to rebuild. Not having been informed of the lifetime memberships has been well addressed, but not offering any lifetime membership options (at least none that I've seen) is unfortunate and concerning as it calls their core integrity to question. What will happen should this new company come under fire from a government administration that is demanding server logs and user account details in order to track activity? Will the new company knuckle under in an attempt to save their bottom line or will they resist? Only time will tell. For now, I'll stick with my other VPN providers.

Thank you for your honest and fair feedback — it's rare, and we don’t take it lightly.

You're right: we have a long road ahead to rebuild confidence. The Lifetime subscription issue has understandably shaken trust, and while we’ve done our best to explain what happened, we know that words alone won’t restore integrity — only actions over time will.

As for privacy and resistance to outside pressure: VPN Secure remains a zero-logs provider, now based in The Bahamas, outside of the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances. We’re not here to fold under pressure — we’re here to provide privacy that actually means something. That’s a line we won’t cross.

We respect your choice to stay with your current providers, and we hope that in time, our actions will speak louder than this chapter of our history.

I had bought a "lifetime" subscription…

I had bought a "lifetime" subscription a few years ago. Horrible new owners come in and cancel everything claiming ignorance. Either they're idiots or they're scammers - not sure which is worse.

Also, the warrant canary txt file hasn't been updated since 2018 - so, not sure how secure your data is. Even before the acquisition, the user experience has been very bad in the last 2-3 years, with it not working on quite a few devices and platforms.

All in all, it's a deadly cocktail - shitty owners, shitty security, shitty product. Stay away at all costs.

Honor among thieves?

If a company can't honor their lifetime subscriptions, what makes you think they will honor anything they claim. They will sell your data first chance they get. They cancelled my lifetime subscription so I'm cancelling my account when them I will not pay their "discounted" monthly or yearly premiums. If rather give my money to a company I can trust.

Response To the reply: so 2 years is equivalent to lifetime to you? And it's not about selling my membership, it's about cancelling a purchase I made, if you couldn't honor the subscription then offer a refund!

Response 2: omg, you don't get it do you?
First off I never said you sold my lifetime membership... I said you ended it which shows you lack an understanding of the meaning of lifetime membership. Second you acquired the company which means you get anything the company had which you consider "baggage', which means the lifetime memberships, of doesn't matter of you claim you never received the contracts... You knew they were lifetime memberships, that is a contact which you violated. By not honoring them, you have proven you are not trustworthy. You claim no logs, but then you might have them and sell them because you wouldn't honor that agreement either. Please don't bother replying. Trying to justify your actions doesn't help. You showed your are not trustworthy and that is required for a business like yours to survive in the long run.

Edited Answer 2: ⬇️

Understood — we won’t try to change your mind.

You’re right that trust is everything in a business like ours. And if our actions led you to believe we’re untrustworthy, we accept that — even if we see the situation differently.

For the record: we still don’t log, we don’t sell data, and we’ve never monetized user information — and we never will.

We’ll leave it there and respect your request not to engage further.

— VPN Secure Team

Edited Answer: ⬇️

We understand this isn’t the answer you were hoping for — but here’s the reality.

The original seller of your Lifetime subscription was BoostNetwork Pty Ltd in Australia. When they sold off all assets and ceased operations, their "lifetime" effectively ended. That’s not just our interpretation — it's how Lifetime Deals are often handled when businesses change hands.

One well-known precedent: when MyHeritage acquired Geni.com in 2012, they canceled all Lifetime subscriptions and converted them to 5-year plans — and that was a company with 400+ employees and 50M users. We're a 3-person team, and we still kept Lifetime accounts active for two full years, without receiving a cent from those deals.

We agree this situation is frustrating — and no, two years is not a "lifetime." But it was a good-faith effort to give something, rather than nothing, in a very imperfect handover.

We truly wish there had been a cleaner way forward.

— VPN Secure Team

Original Answer: ⬇️

We understand your trust is gone — and we know many feel the same.

To clarify: we didn’t sell your Lifetime subscription, and we never received the funds tied to it. The previous company did. When we acquired only the infrastructure in 2023, we received no contracts, payment records, or legal obligations. Still, we kept Lifetime accounts active for two more years, fully at our expense.

As for your data — VPN Secure has always been a zero-logs provider, and we stand by that. We’ve never sold or shared user data and never will.

We respect your decision to move on. We just want the full picture to be clear.

VPN Secure canceled my lifetime subscription

Purchase a lifetime subscription to VPN Secure in 2017, from stack social, and found out through an Ars Technica article that mine was canceled. If you are purchasing "customers" as part of a business deal you shouldn't get to simply choose to cancel those users accounts and claim "we didn't know" as an excuse. There are many other solutions out there, think twice before signing up.

We understand why this feels wrong — especially finding out through a third party instead of directly from us.

To clarify: we didn’t purchase the company or its customers — we acquired only the assets (infrastructure, servers, brand). The Lifetime subscriptions sold on StackSocial were not disclosed in the sale, and we received no payment records, contracts, or funds from those deals.

Still, we kept those Lifetime accounts active for two full years, entirely at our own expense — not because we were obligated to, but because it felt better than cutting access immediately.

I boughtVPNSecure Canceled My Lifetime Subscription – Unethical and Greedya lifetime subscription to…

I bought a lifetime subscription to VPNSecure with the clear understanding that it meant exactly that access for life. Now, without warning, they’ve canceled it. No refund, no acceptable explanation just an email saying it’s gone. That’s complete BS and totally uncalled for.

VPNSecure claims it “didn’t know” people had lifetime subscriptions. Are you kidding me? Either they’re grossly incompetent, or they knew exactly what they were doing and hoped people would forget. If a company can't honor its commitments, it shouldn’t be in business.

This is nothing more than a shady money grab. They happily took our money years ago, and now that it's no longer profitable for them, they’re pretending those promises never existed. That’s not just bad business, it’s straight-up dishonest.
I used to recommend VPNSecure. Now, I wouldn’t trust them with a free trial, let alone money. Avoid this company unless you’re okay with them rewriting the terms whenever they feel like it.

Another one on the list of lifetime subscribers who got screwed after the acquisition. The level of gaslighting and arrogance in the company’s official email and every reply here is astounding.

This is straight-up awful business practice. I don’t know or care if it’s technically legal for them to do this, but it doesn’t really matter at this point. I would never even consider trusting my private data with a company that conducts business this way.

Shady business, shady owners.

You can't trust them. I actually do understand the need to cancel lifetime subscriptions. But they're lying. The claim that they weren't aware of the lifetime subscriptions when they purchased the company 2.years ago. Yet, they also claim that they continued to honor the lifetime subscriptions for 2 years? Which is it? It can't be both. They just didn't do their due diligence and are trying to place blame wherever they can.

Now, about the new offers. This is a temporary money grab. They are trying to recoup anything they can. This prices will last for a few months - that's it. Ditch these guys and move on. Don't give them any money.

For potential customers, stay away. These guys have no clue what they are doing. This company is in a nose-down tail spring with smoke pouring out of all engines. This company won't survive this. Find a different provider.

We understand why this feels shady — and appreciate you at least acknowledging that canceling Lifetime plans, while painful, may have been necessary.

To clarify the timeline: we discovered the scope of Lifetime subscriptions several months after the acquisition. At that point, rather than cut access immediately, we made the choice to keep those accounts active for two years — from late 2023 through mid-2025 — even though we had received none of the funds and were under no legal obligation to do so.

You're right that we didn’t walk away when we probably should have. That mistake — a lack of due diligence — is on us, and we’ve said so publicly. But we’re not lying, and we’re not shifting blame. When we acquired only the assets of VPN Secure in 2023 — not the company itself — no contracts, payment records, or legal obligations transferred to us. We had no access to the funds collected from those sales and no way to verify or fulfill them legally.

Had lifetime subscription but canceled without notice

Had lifetime subscription. Tried using VPN last couple of years but couldn't login for whatever reason. Come to find out now, company was acquired and basically shut everyone's accounts down. Then they have the balls to send out an email that said "email went to spam" and is the reason why I had no idea this had happened. For the record, I, like many others never received any notification. Furthermore, rather than taking accountability and being oops, we effed up, they try to deflect and present a shitty offer to try and get more money. This could've been handled better, and perhaps then, I would've considered staying on. Looking for a different VPN provider now.

You're absolutely right — communication was a major failure on our part. Many users didn’t receive the initial notice because of outdated email lists, high bounce rates, and poor delivery. Saying it "went to spam" wasn’t meant as an excuse, just part of a larger issue we didn’t catch soon enough. That’s on us.

We didn’t acquire the original company — only the infrastructure and brand. There were no customer contracts or payment records transferred, and we didn’t receive the funds from any Lifetime deals. But we still chose to keep those accounts active for two extra years, entirely at our own cost.

We understand this could’ve been handled far better. And we fully respect your decision to move on — it’s justified.
