Scammy

Scammy, hidden charges. Buy a textbook and then they make you buy it again so you can access their stupid, unintuitive website

I do not like vista at all!

As a high school student, I have to use Vista HL for a majority of my Spanish 3/4 assignments! I have been struggling in class because 50% of my grade is based on Vista scores and completion. Very slow platform, way too many assignments, grades down for punctuation and capitalization. Vista has made me not love the language anymore. Very disappointed in my district's choice to use this app as a language learning tool for students. Awful platform.

I spent 170 dollars on the textbook and…

I spent 170 dollars on the textbook and they couldn't even put a binding on it. I essentially received a stack of paper. The textbook probably only costs $10 to make. I'm leaving a review just on the off chance that if colleges stop assigning Vista higher learning material. Vista higher learning takes advantage of college students who are forced to take language credits.

Purchase Text Book Fail

Not bad for learning beginner level french, purchasing their online learning textbooks was confusing. I had previously purchased access for 5months last year and this year I purchased the lower priced extension code b/c it said only purchase if you've previously bought the book so I thought cool I bought the book before this should work. The code redeems but I still don't have access to my class... I talk to support and they say there is no extension code listed, that I only bought one thing but it should be showing two because I just purchased the extension code...So I gave up after that because it definitely read extension code I'm not blind and I just bought the other online version for 109.99, the regular price. They should be way more in-depth about that 69.00 text book and if there is a time limit to when you can purchase it after your previous access expires. You can't get a refund for the extension code if it doesn't work, so that's very frustrating in its own way.

VHL shouldn’t even be considered a learning website

I wish that there was a way to rate this website negative stars it’s genuinely that bad. Half the time it counts answers wrong for no reason and the other half of the time it won’t even work or load on a computer. I am not learning anything. I used to be relatively good at French class but since I’ve started using VHL I feel like I’m somehow getting worse. The book makes no sense and the directions are in French that I don’t understand because the book and website doesn’t teach we any of it. I have a deep burning passionate hate towards VHL

If I could give this zero stars, I would.
VHL is a waste of space. It gives you zero feedback, has no learning support systems, has unfair grading for everything, and taught me almost nothing in two years of using it for school. I went to office hours, stayed after class and learned a lot. This website barely did anything but drain away money. I won't take Spanish again because of this website.

I'm now using VHL for a second semester…

I'm now using VHL for a second semester in Spanish only because I want the credits (I otherwise use superior tools for learning languages).

I've created LMS content (Computer-based training) for a living (well over a decade), and VHL is POORLY made and overpriced. They have also clearly not thoroughly tested much of their content, which is riddled with logical errors.

The only reason this company is in business is that it has somehow managed to become the primary supplier of learning content for schools.

What a joke and a waste of my time and money.

Vista Higher Learning for Spanish at UCLA

Vista Higher Learning for Spanish at UCLA is the worst, most tedious and terrible program I have ever used as a student who is also a teacher. It is nothing more than busy work that frustrates you and is so picky you cannot get even ONE THING WRONG or it makes you redo it. You cannot accept the grade you get on ANY assignment, you have to keep redoing it until you hate the program, hate learning and hate the class and VHL. This software is absolute garbage and makes people hate learning. I have learned NOTHING in this Spanish class. I hate it. I actually stopped doing work because it had us doing 100 ASSIGNMENTS A WEEK. WTF kind of maniac thinks humans can learn in this tedious way? This company should be sued for creating the absolute worst way to learn imaginable. First of all, you do not assign that much work for one week as people have lives, families, jobs, disabilities and more and second of all it is so boring and tedious it is frustrating all the time. The worst is the fill in the blank where they give you NO WORDS TO USE. So from MEMORY you are supposed to remember what to use, the proper Spanish keyboard letters and conjugation of verbs in a BEGINNER SPANISH CLASS. This is the worst way a human being could try to learn anything. I have seen some terrible software and programs in my life as a high school teacher and college student but this is the worst I have EVER EXPERIENCED and made me give up my class I paid over $1,000 for it was so terrible. This company has no idea how to teach anyone anything.

Language learning on this program is…

Language learning on this program is fundamentally flawed. I speak two languages and have tried to learn a third thru Vista. Let's just say that I ended up failing to learn. Then discovered when taking another language I am already familiar with that the issue is VHL. Institutions have been deriding the language learning apps and trying to convince the populace that only their way is the only correct path. But I can say that the way things are laid out and presented ensures that actually learning a new language thru VHL is basically impossible. It is baffling that this is the most used program and speaks to a sad state of affairs in the US education system

NO I HATE VHL

if i could give zero stars i would. it keeps on making me repeat the speaking part but i know im saying it right because when i listen to the audio it sounds the exact same as to what i’m saying. vhl is the WORST app i have ever encountered and it should not even be an option as a learning tool. unless it starts to fix these things, DONT USE IT! TS IS SO BUNS BRO I CANT I GENUINELY WANT TO DIE EVERY TIME MY TEACHER ASSIGNS VHL TO US BC I KNOW ITS GONNA BE SOME MORE BS AND NOT ONLY THAT BUT THEIR ANSWERS DONT EVEN MAKE SENSE SOMETIMES LIKE IF YOURE GONNA TEACH SPANISH MAYBE YOU SHOULD LIKE UM IDK ACTUALLY TEACH SPANISH?? TF GET BETTER AND STAY UP BRO

Beware of VHL: Assignments counting late

I had assignments say they were submitted late even though they weren't and had a nightmare with VHL. Had a screenshot of one of the assignments showing it was submitted on time and sent it to the VHL representative who implied I faked the issue and that if my professor believes me she would fix the grade. Apparently I have the worst luck in the world because I also had a terrible professor for that class who was really difficult to communicate with and wouldn't do anything to help. She said it's on us if we have technical issues even though the issue was because of VHL which I was forced to use. I'm hispanic and I got a C in the intro Spanish class and my GPA is nuked. Platform is way too much money to have these sorts of issues.

Just horrible

So many mistakes in the activities. There are many grammatical and spelling errors. It marks me wrong for capitalizing at the beginning of a sentence. And i didn’t know “el banano” was a fruit. It’s built for native speakers; the activities contain vocabulary that was never taught. The Realidades textbooks were better.

I would give 0 stars if I could

VHL has horrible connection problems and makes homework assignments into tests, essentially testing the students on material they learned for about at most an hour, leading to cheating students relying in answers from quizlet.

Vista Higher Learning Review

The textbook is too expensive. Access Code is too expensive. The only plus side is that it is easy to take notes from and the notes are easy to find. However, the homework is almost impossible to do unless you have some background knowledge of the language. The way the homework is formatted is for native speakers and not for those learning the language. They do not give clear instructions on how to do the activities on the homework and do not show you how to correct your mistakes until you get it wrong after three tries. Very disappointed.
