Donated a decent running pickup

Donated a decent running pickup, sold for $750, about $2000 less then it should have sold for, also google says its only 40% going to the veterans not 70% like they tell you, they were not up front at all, very disappointing Vets are being taking advantage of like this.

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for your donation and for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how frustrating it can feel when the final sale price comes in lower than expected, especially when you donated a vehicle that was running and in usable condition.

Based on the VIN and details provided, your truck is a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 with over 200,000 miles. Vehicles in this age and mileage range, even when they run well, typically sell in a more limited market and often at lower auction values. Factors like mileage, age, prior use (including farm use), and regional demand all play a role in the final sale price, which can vary from private party estimates you might see online.

We also want to clarify that Vehicles For Veterans operates as part of the Car Donation Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. A substantial portion of proceeds goes directly to supporting veteran programs, and we are committed to transparency in how those funds are distributed.

We’re truly grateful you chose to donate your vehicle, and your contribution does make a meaningful impact for veterans and their families. If you’d like, we’re happy to walk through the sale details with you directly.

Thank you again for your support.

Less than reputable “organization”

We recently donated a 2005 Harley Davidson 883l in running condition that had NO damage & included custom paint & several thousand in upgrades. The book value was around $4,000.00 without the upgrades & additional equipment.

There were several phone calls to even arrange pickup so communication is lacking professionalism.

Other than the initial letter there was no further contact from this “organization” so I followed up & was told they auctioned it for $425.00…what a joke & scam this “organization” is. My advice is to sell your own vehicle & donate to an actual local veterans organization. As a veteran myself this is disheartening. Don’t waste your time!!!

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for your service and for taking the time to share your feedback.

According to the information provided at the time of pickup, the motorcycle was noted to have a torn seat, other cosmetic issues, and it was not starting due to an engine issue. Condition plays a significant role in auction outcomes, especially for older vehicles, and those factors can affect the final sale price.

All donated vehicles are sold through independent public auctions, and the final price is determined by the bidders present that day. Unfortunately, we do not control the bidding or the final sale amount.

We also want to address the claim that our organization is a scam. Vehicles for Veterans is a legitimate national vehicle donation program that has helped raise tens of millions of dollars to support nonprofit organizations serving veterans and their families. Over the years, proceeds from vehicle donations have helped support organizations such as the United Service Organizations, the Gary Sinise Foundation, the Pat Tillman Foundation, the Semper Fi & America's Fund, and the Wounded Warrior Project, among others. Donations are processed through licensed auctions, donors receive proper tax documentation in accordance with IRS regulations, and the funds generated go toward supporting programs that assist veterans and their families.

We understand that auction results can sometimes be frustrating, but the process is transparent and regulated. If you would like any additional documentation regarding the auction or your tax receipt, our team would be happy to provide it.

We do appreciate your donation and your willingness to support programs that assist veterans.

I had a terrible experience with them

I had a terrible experience with them , i thought I'd donate my 1999 chevy Cavalier to the Disable Veterns since my family is military so when i bought my new car in july i thought it would be a easy transition, but i was certainly wrong !!. Setting up for the pick up easy ! Danny the tow driver was very nice & helpful and thats where it ended! I inherited the car from my mom which passed away 3 mo after they bought it now my parents live in Hawaii & i live in Vegas . My dad drove the car from Riverside Ca. To vegas my dad transferred the title to me unfortunately he checked the wrong box off so i had a hard time transferring the title but the car was reg into my name go figure ! I had the car till 2025 with NO accident only 101,000 miles 5 battery changes 1 starter change 1 alternator change maybe 4 set of tires since 99 it was the perfect car engine still strong passed all smog !! But the title was from Hawaii and in now in my deseased fathers name with me on the registration. Well Danny took it to the yard unfortunately we forgot to take the tags off. I called them the same day and the young lady said they'll mail them back now this is in Aug am still paying my car insurance cause i haven't heard nothing back plus my insurance said dont take it off till you hear from them sept comes nothing Now Oct some still nothing i finally call the place it was tow to won't return my calls so i call HQ in end of Jan.2026 a nice young man helps me i explain everything he looks it up to make a long story short the car was auction off in Sept no notice no nothing because it went to my spam folder and he sent me a letter saying my plates where destroyed and the car was auction off in sept well during that time my insurance company doesn't explain that i have 30 days to report my tags do i guess i get a notice from DMV which i didnt recieve supposedly in Sept or Nov .I think you see where this is going i get a certified letter yesterday from DMV saying i needed to report these tags and am getting fined if i read this correctly $1700 now for not reporting my tag so again i call las vegas Disabled Veterans won't anwser my calls so i call HQ then an only find 1 paper letting me know my car was aution off in sept and its now feb instead of emailing they should have sent a letter i have no paper trail for DMV except this email something that should have been easy is costing me $1700 for a car to help our Veterans its sad am 68 single no violation no nothing and this happens !!

My husband and I donated a 2019 Mercedes Benz E450. 35,000 miles. The car was in almost perfect condition
We turned down a $29,400 trade in.
We now receive an email for a $500.00 donation!
We will never ever donate to vehicles for veterans again.
We love veterans don’t judge us.
Both our fathers served in WW11.
This organization needs to be more transparent and more up front.

Hi Kathy,

Thank you for reaching out, and I am sorry for the frustration. Based on what you described, it sounds like you may have received the preliminary acknowledgment email rather than the final tax receipt. The preliminary note uses a placeholder amount until the vehicle is sold. After the sale, we send the final receipt with the actual sale price and your IRS Form 1098 C.

I could not find your donation under the name Kathy Kitts. Please email me at liza@nfmdonations.com the donor details used when you submitted the donation so I can pull up the record right away. Helpful items include the full name on the donation, the best phone number, the email used on the form, or your reference number.

For context, our most recent 2019 Mercedes donation sold for almost $15,000, so I want to make sure we locate your file and confirm where things stand in the process.

Once I have your details I will look it up and get you a clear answer. I appreciate your support of veterans and I will get this sorted for you.

Love love love this organization

I had an amazing experience with Vehicles For Veterans! Every single person I spoke with was professional, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. They made everything simple and stress-free, and it felt great knowing that my donation was going toward such a meaningful cause.

It’s rare to find an organization that truly values both people and purpose the way they do. I’ll highly recommend Vehicles For Veterans to all my friends and family—they’re absolutely outstanding!

Hi Mary,

Your vehicle sold at auction on October 10 for $2,600. A request for your Social Security number, which is required by the IRS to issue Form 1098-C, was mailed out last Thursday. Once we receive your mailed response or you call in with your SSN on our secure line, we’ll mail your 1098-C for your 2025 taxes.

I hope this eases any concerns and clarifies the process. I apologize for any frustration with communication- that’s never what we like to hear, and we’ll be sharing your feedback with management to help improve in the future.

Thank you again for your feedback and most importantly, your generous donation to Vehicles for Veterans!

A tax receipt for your donation was emailed on September 9, 2025, at 11:59 AM (Central Time). It may have landed in your spam or junk folder, so please check there. I also just re-sent a new copy to ensure you have it.

Given this information, we’d appreciate it if you could update your review, since we did provide the documentation promptly.

Because your vehicle sold for under $500 due to its age and condition, you can use this preliminary receipt to deduct up to $500 in accordance with IRS guidelines.

Thank you for your generosity and for supporting our mission.
