No compassion in putting my elderly sick cat to sleep. Medication was pushed wuickly without him having time to just go to sleep. Followed quickly with the second dose.

My complaint involves the lack of experienced staff and appropriate medical equipment and the outrageous prices for euthanasia. I took my dying cat to VEG in Pikesville, MD the day before Thanksgiving. She had suddenly collapsed, could barely move, and was clearly in great pain. We were seen fairly promptly by a group of very young vets, who correctly diagnosed her cancer but did not have the sonogram machine necessary to determine what had caused her sudden collapse. Given what VEG charges, the lack of this equipment is bizarre. I took my cat home hoping she'd hang on for my own vet to see but had to bring her back on Thanksgiving to be euthanized. She suffered horribly and unnecessarily for 24 hours because VEG did not have sonographic tools, and the staff were simply too inexperienced to know that she likely had a tumor that had burst and needed to be euthanized immediately. Then to my shock I was charged more than $500 for euthanasia. When I called the crematorium, they were surprised to hear what I had paid. And I just learned that VEG sends a "donation" to our mismanaged city animal shelter for every euthanized pet, without telling the pet owners. I am currently trying to find out about this bizarre scheme, which is especially surprising because VEG is in a neighboring county, not the city. I would not go to VEG ER again and would advise others against it. Note that I am not blaming them in any way for my cat's death. She could not have been saved, but she could have been spared 24 hours of agony.

I took my dog to the VEG in Jacksonville Fl . I have a puppy that is diabetic and was throwing up and had diarrhea. We were told her sugar was really high and they need to get her rehydrated and everything under control. We were all onboard and had a plan in place. No problem. We didn't even have an issue when we were told the cost could be $8000 potential. Here is the issue.... They moved us out of one of their private rooms because they said she pulled her port out and put her in a kennel because it was easier on them to watch her and (as the nurse said) "I do have 6 patients and can't keep coming back in here". 😳. Then because of her diarrhea they wanted to put a ballon up her rectum to keep from having to clean the puppy pads. I told them no. I told them I know that makes it easier on THEM but she was already irritated from the diarrhea and I didn't want that done. The doctor looked at me and said "fine, we'll keep changes the pads in her kennel" and then glared at me. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDSING ME???!?!!??! I'm paying you $8000 and you want me to make YOUR job easy for my sick fur baby?!?!? If you don't want to be in this job market QUIT!

Jaz and I had the best experience we could have hoped for, given the circumstances. Dr. McGee and the entire team were extraordinary. They went above and beyond to support me and my fur daughter during an incredibly frightening and difficult time. Their kindness and professionalism brought comfort when we needed it most.
We are forever grateful for the compassion and dedication every staff member showed us. Anyone who brings their loved ones here is truly blessed to be cared for by such an exceptional and loving group.

We took our dog Kakashi to the emerg vet located at pincrest location on Christmas day, 2025. He cut his paw and it was a severe deep wound. Thankfully, we had a wonderful staff that took care of him and us. They gave us reassurance that everything was going to be ok. The entire staff was very professional and caring. They explained everything and were willing to answer all our questions without any hesitation. We were there for 7 hrs.Jorgie and Dessire were so kind, in a time where we needed the emotional support. They outdid themselves. Dessire was always making sure we were comfortable and assisted with the financial assistance.Dr. Talavera performed the procedure and his recovery was excellent! I call the care team, my Christmas miracle. I cant thank them enough for how they treated my Kakashi and us. Thank you again to our care team: Dr. Talavera, CEC: Dessire and Nurse, Jorgie for their outstanding job!

A young bird was injured in our backyard, unknown how it happened. We called around and were directed to VEG. I called and spoke to a very polite woman named Brianna. We drove the 45m to take the bird in to them. Once there, they were backed up with other cases and a rescue bird was not a priority. I understand that completely; the issue was how we were treated once there. Brianna was polite and assured us the young bird would be looked after. However, the other woman who kept trying to get us to just give up the bird was quite rude, and completely turned us off. We called back later to ask if the youngling had survived, knowing it was a long shot, but we wanted to know. Their company policy is not to disclose any information once any animal has been surrendered. Now, sitting at home, thinking about the entirety of the experience, we should have kept the bird with us, kept it warm and let it pass in peace. Instead, it was stressed and appeared to completely give up once we took it out of our care. We have talked all night about our experience and decided, we will not take another animal there for rescue. If everyone was like Brianna, possibly would go back. But the other female we dealt with, blonde and no name tag, no way. She did not have a caring attitude and was more concerned about getting us out the door. We regret taking the bird to the Winter Park, FL location off of Fairbanks Ave.

Good for quick ER visits, but dangerous gaps in critical care and administrative coordination
VEG's open model works well for straightforward emergencies—you can get in fast. I even slept there overnight with my cat while she was in an oxygen chamber. But if your pet needs sustained critical care, the rotating staff creates real problems.
No continuity of care
With constant shift changes, critical information gets missed. I had to keep confirming doctors were actually coordinating with my cat's cardiologist. I kept bringing up details from her records that staff had overlooked. You shouldn't have to project-manage your dying pet's care, but that's what happened.
Again, this model is great for short-term crises, but your pet is not meant to be seen by doctor after doctor. I realize doctors cannot work for 24-hours straight, but having one lead would have been helpful. This is also why I was still actively communicating with her primary vet who knows her and her health.
The most serious failure:
When my cat wasn't responding to treatment, euthanasia was suggested before anyone mentioned transferring her to a specialty hospital—which her primary vet had specifically advised to me. By the time I learned transfer was even possible, she was too oxygen-dependent with too much fluid on her lungs to transport safely. Some places wouldn't accept her because her condition was so rare. I have connections at UPenn, but it was too late.
Would it have made a difference? Maybe not. But I was spending thousands of dollars and deserved to have that option presented upfront, not as an afterthought. Especially since transfer was literally written in her cardiology discharge paperwork as the next step if she was unresponsive to medication (she was).
Administrative chaos
Before treatment, they give you cost estimates with ranges. Fine for quick cases, but for multi-day care there's almost no communication about actual spending or when charges hit. I was there basically every day, even overnight, and I'd already approved estimates and put money down.
Then someone from admin calls me after I'd just spent 24 hours straight at the hospital when I was in bed: "I just wanted to confirm you saw the estimate—I didn't realize we were at this amount." Yes, I approved it. What do you need?
Their lack of record-keeping is not my problem. There's a clear deflection of responsibility among staff. A lot of the doctors don't like being questioned or hearing other ideas. I shouldn't be the one researching specialty hospitals for transfer options. Many of the doctors are just vanilla—cut and dry, no out-of-the-box thinking. If they can't treat it or are out of a list of traditional treatment methods, it seems like euthanasia is their go-to option.
Sometimes I think they're so focused on ego and treating the numbers that they overlook the actual patient. You know your animal. They don't see them day to day.
What actually worked:
The vet techs were incredible. Jake made my cat a custom cardboard hideaway that made a real difference for her comfort. Alexis, Mati, and Danny were compassionate and attentive (to me and my cat). The front desk was hit or miss—Lena was great, others clearly didn't care.
Bottom line: VEG works for in-and-out emergencies. For complex cases needing multi-day care, the lack of continuity is dangerous and they realize too late when a patient is beyond their care capabilities. Celine's death might not have had a different outcome, but transferring her to a specialty hospital was an option I was more than willing to pay for. At times I felt assumptions were made about my decisions, ability, and financial capacity to continue her care. Those aren't calls for them to make.
Advocate hard. Ask explicitly about ALL options including transfers. If I had another pet emergency, I'd go somewhere with specialists on-site.
I had to be my pet's biggest advocate, and it's devastating that I couldn't trust several of the doctors caring for her.

I brought a sick stray cat to VEG ER in Saint Petersburgs Fl. In hopes of medical treatment. I was caring for him in the back yard of a someone I was visiting long term, I was earning his trust and looking for a forever home for him. He was a really sweet kitty :(
I viewed footage of him from outside cameras violently vomiting in the early morning and looking sluggish by noon, and never show up for breakfast, I feared he was poisoned, obviously he needed medical attention. I found him that evening curled in a ball very weak. I brought him to VEG ER, based on the little I know of the area. I was told VEG ER accepts strays in emergencies for medical treatment, THEN they'd transfer them to a shelter. The catch is, you surrender the cat to them. They don't give you updates. Meaning you will never know what, if anything was done. You would never think they would do absolutely nothing, right!? Think again.
I left this sweet little thing in their care and they did NOTHING! No exam, no pain meds, NOTHING. They let him suffer in a cage all night, only to hand him over to Pinellas County animal shelter in the morning, where AGAIN, no exam, no treatment, only suffering! I tried to get him back, adopt him, anything I could to get him some medical help. They would not allow it. He was in their custody. I could not help him.
When I finally spoke with a higher up, I was told he had still been vomiting, not eating and started passing black stool so he was euthanized. I said, yes because he's likely been bleeding internally from poison, which I did mention that concern to VEG ER. This cat had been suffering for days due to VEG ER's negligence.
*The issue I’m raising here is not their surrender policy issue, it is that a visibly ill, suffering animal was kept overnight in your ER without any medical intervention, and then transferred to the shelter in the same condition.
He was placed on a stray hold and again, received no treatment. After continued vomiting and not eating, he developed black stool and was ultimately euthanized due to his decline. The suffering this little cat went through is heartbreaking and sickening that it was allowed.

I’m giving this company one star, but they deserve zero stars. I took my little doggie in there because she was lethargic. The incompetent doctors at VEG misdiagnosed her. They pumped her full of opioids and then very incompetently gave her way too much barium. Within 24 hours she was dead.
They are a fast growing corporate vet company that hires anybody (even incompetent, poorly trained people) just so they have enough doctors to stay open 24/7.
Stay away from this company. I would have sued them but that would not have brought my dog back.

READ YOUR BILL!! Don't pay until you are about to walk out the door.
First estimate: $1646
Second estimate: $800
Billed: $864
Told I was due a $194 refund for services not rendered. Okay, great.
As I was ready to walk out the door, suddenly, I owed them $95 more. What? They couldn't (or wouldn't) explain why. I asked for specifics, they wouldn't give it to me. I asked for an itemized statement, they gave me a doctored one without any specifics about the refund and/or the additional $95 charge.
Overall, I would be very careful about their business model practices. They are all about the $$ vs. anything else. They also lack good communication skills. Make sure they acknowledge what you have told them so you don't end up paying for things that have nothing to do with why you are there.

Immoral? Try Morally bankrupt. Took my 10yo GSD in Sunday night into this disgusting excuse for a veterinary facility. After the scumbags tried to strong arm me with $1100 in unconsented charges and none of which included antibiotics they failed my dog. She was definitely on borrowed time and probably should have been offered that option but these greedy scumbags kept rolling the ticker until I refused a 24 stay at $3500 and they brought her out in a gurney and she died this morning.
If you read this and want to know how to file a complaint with the vet board let me know. Every pet and patient deserves dignity and they are mighty greedy and wolves in this facility. Called today to inform them and “crystal” (unclear because she spoke like she had a mouth of food) hung up on me.
I will soon have a live site to address the bottom feeding and criminal activity at Veg.
It will be a blessing when I get an injunction to shut down this consumer pet trap and revoke every vet of a license so they can peddle bullshit someplace else, like out of this country.
Thanks VEG for giving me my dying dog back so she could suffer all night as a result of your gross negligence and disregard for any integrity or morality. Consumer protection violations all around. Watched them scam the groups of loving pet owners around me like charlatans. My dog probably needed to be put down last night but owership and the board want $$$$. Well you pay for this indiscretion VEG.

VEG went above and beyond in the treatment of our fur baby. He has gone through hell for 5 days due to the treatment he received at a local urgent care. We are now on the road to a full recovery.

My cat was dying and they figured out what was wrong when a previous clinic had not. They got a specialist in to do an ultrasound that same night, when no other place I contacted could do so. My cat was given the right treatment and has fully recovered!
I particularly appreciated the efficiency and kindness of all with whom I dealt during a long and stressful night, and the way the vet and other staff kept me informed.

The most immoral provider I have ever worked with. Our dame labored for 2 hours in the night, and we brought her to this place to see why the pup wasn't coming. They refused to give us prognosis or next steps and proceeded to just let her labor for 2 more hours at the clinic. Then we were told her pup was too big to birth naturally, and both the pup and dame would die without an immediate c-section. It was only then that they finally told us it would cost almost SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! They deliberately withheld prognosis and pricing information and used up all our time and options so we could not find another provider. Finally, under threat of death they charged us triple the price for an emergency c-section anywhere else. Avoid these hostage holders at all costs!

Way overpriced! They charged $562 to euthanize a sick guinea pig. I paid half of that amount to euthanize my full-grown dog! They take advantage of families with "semi" exotic pets (i.e. guinea pigs!!!) that are in desperate situations. I would not go here. Find an emergency vet that cares about PEOPLE and not just their bottom line!

I visited the Carle Place, NY office. I arrived with a messy dog who pooped and threw up in the car and the first thing they did was clean her up for me. Offered what services they felt were needed and the price. Never forced anything on me and discussed all options without judgment. My baby had to stay the night and the updates were timely and informative. I didnt know this place existed but will now NEVER forget. They were absolutely AWESOME :)

My dog ate a tennis ball while playing at a dog park. When I got to him, it was too late; and he already swallowed most of it. My Vet helped me to induce vomit, but not much came out. He advised me to go to the nearest VEG. Dr. Anna Taylor at the Falls Church, VA location was the one to take charge. She administered more vomit inducement. Seeing that not enough came out, she administered the delicate procedure to take out the tennis ball piece by piece from my dog's stomach. Bit by bit, she was able to get them all. She and her team saved me dog. Throughout the process, she and her team kept me updated, and gave me the emotional support that I needed at the time. Dr. Anna Taylor has my upmost respect and eternal gratitude. The staff was also friendly and professional. This is definitely an "A TEAM".

There are two days a week regular vets are closed and pet owners rely on an emergency vet for emergency services. My dog and I spent 4+ hours waiting to be seen at the Columbia location. They had ONE vet on duty. One. On a weekend when it is our only option. My poor dog has been vomiting and diarrhea and the wait was really hard. We had to keep leaving so he could poop. Finally we ended up having to leave due to having to feed the rest of my pets and being told it could still be several hours yet to go, As a few cats seemed to take priority. They were able to walk straight in and were seen immediately. The vet area was freezing cold and I just couldn't do it anymore. So now I have to take off work tomorrow, lost time, to try to see if my vet can get him in, even though they are currently booked. I'm very worried about the health of my dog as he is not eating in addition to the diarrhea. Horrible. I have been VEG with the same problem before on a weekday. Where they actually have multiple vets working and very few pets there since vet offices are actually open. The fact that they only had one vet is very unprofessional and dangerous to the health of everyone's beloved pets. I will never return and will be sure to share my story with people I know who use them and anyone else who will listen. You just waste your time and your pet will still be sick. I feel so bad for my dog and hate that they couldn't help him feel better. Ridiculous and unnecessary. Staff your business accordingly to meet the needs of pets and pet owners.
