Not customer-friendly

Ordered 6 mugs and 6 bowls but one of the mugs was broken in transit. The parcel was left on my doorstep but had noticeably been damaged. Vagabonde insisted we should not have accepted the parcel (a bit difficult because we were not at home) and said they would send a replacement but we would have to pay - not sure about the logic? The crockery is pretty but over priced for the type of pottery it is.
