Upwork is a reliable platform that has helped me grow as a freelancer, although I feel that the fees charged for ‘connects’ make it harder to apply for more jobs, which in turn hinders my ability to generate income. Similarly, the fees they charge freelancers on each payment received are a bit high.

Upwork is one of the best platforms for professional freelancers, offering strong global opportunities and client access.
However, the mobile app and website should be more stable and bug-free to ensure smooth proposal submission and editing.
Additionally, charging for both job alerts (via subscription) and proposal connects feels redundant, and the platform should focus more on being freelancer-friendly rather than overly monetization-driven.

We kindly request that clients be encouraged or allowed to send invitations directly to a broader range of designers, so that all eligible designers have a fair opportunity to participate in projects.
Distributing projects more inclusively would benefit the entire design community. Many talented designers have the skills and ability to deliver high-quality work, but they often miss out on opportunities because clients tend to select top-level designers automatically without reviewing other profiles.
Providing equal visibility and access to invitations would help ensure a more balanced and fair system for everyone.
