Wonderful charter in the Polish Lakes
Our 5-day charter in the stunning Masurian lakes was fantastic. Hosts Patrycja and Wojtek looked after us from the very first email, asking what food we liked, until the transfer back to Olsztyn-Mazury airport. Fun, friendly and knowledgable, they were great companions, sailors and cooks and made us feel very relaxed.
Skipper Wojtek tailor-made an itinerary for us, which included great sailing in the quieter northern part of the lakes, with visits to smart marinas, historical sites (including an amazing WW2 bunker in the forest and a WW1 fort) and peaceful anchorages. We even managed to have a lakeside sauna and night at anchor in a remote creek.
I've sailed in the UK, Med and Caribbean, and was surprised to find this beautiful lake district with charming villages and top-class marinas as good (or better) than I'm used to at home, yet with the benefit of far fewer boats!
Our yacht, an Antilla 33.3, was top-spec, spacious and comfortable, with central heating. It also had some nice technical features, such as an electric winch and a clever mast-lowering system (for the canals) that made it especially fun to sail.
Because land was always in sight, Masuria felt like a very safe place to sail whilst also being surrounded by nature. It's Poland's best-kept secret!
The food was delicious – it was great to try some traditional Polish dishes, especially sausages, hunters' stew and croquettes, as well as locally brewed beer and cider.
Whether you prefer sailing, sight-seeing or a mix of both, there's plenty to do on these vast lakes, and I'd definitely recommend a charter with Undiscovered Sailing.
