After being completely abandoned by…
After being completely abandoned by their customer service rep after our credit card was stolen (and they wouldn't give us our train tickets). They charged us another $500 USD for our new tickets which originally cost us $240 USD. After hours on the phone and at the desk, it was clear they would not help us retrieve our tickets.
Contacted customer support after we got home detailing the situation and sent them the scanned tickets and duplicate tickets we got gouged for... No response.
A month later, the refund for the extra $500 was on my credit card.
I must say, I was impressed that they refunded the money when the could have just snubbed the annoying American.
Another FIRST for SNCF - the least user-friendly ticket booking site in the entire world!
The ticket booking site is the least transparent, most stressful site I have ever used . It is execrably badly laid out so as to look cool and sophisticated but is appallingly confusing and uninformative to use. It's as if words of explanatory information cost money. Dopy little pictures in irrelevant parts of the page. Completely unfathomable ticket printing page. Is it really printing... is it...maybe.... in a few minutes.... what about the other ticket...? A dreadful, displeasing experience just to buy a b****y train ticket!!

Superb, I really do feel sad for all those customers who have had bad experiences.
We have just returned from Catalonia having travelled from Paris and back, and thought it was wonderful.
Train was 1hour 40 minutes late leaving Paris due to an accident but we were kept informed of progress.
Super comfortable. We paid 20 pounds each to upgrade to 1st class. Food on offer not great but we kind of thought so, and had a picnic with us.
Smooth ride, very fast and no complaints.
So definitely repeating the experience next year. So much better than flying and all the unreliability that incurs.
SHOCKING SERVICE
Travelling to Disneyland Paris from Lille on a return journey.
Very very old trains.
Lack of space for luggage.poor design for the double decker trains. On return journey home,it was a smaller train and the train was willing to close it's doors even though there was over a dozen people still not board on the train with their suitcases and children and we didn't get no assistance from the staff.
Rude!!
The ticket inspector was very rude and he only asked me and my friend for the tickets, even if we were 30 in the wagon.
He also checked a girl's ticket. She hadn't got it so they went in the bathroom...
Oui.sncf and sncf do not communicate…
Oui.sncf and sncf do not communicate with each other, impossible to get help to get the promised full refund after the train strikes. Only the staff at the stations are helpful, but even after one month still did not receive a refund, had to ask the credit card company for a charge back.
Worst customer service ever! Will never buy a ticket again.
Terrible service, terrible ride, terrible communication
Absolutely terrible. My family and I were traveling in France. We had to repurchase tickets due to missing a train by one minute. On our way back we asked multiple times for help and received no assistance. When we got on the train, lucky us! We had gotten onto the wrong train. Instead of the workers helping us or telling us if we needed to pay, do something after our ride, etc. they rolled their eyes at us and walked away. Never again will I take these trains.
Got my trains cancelled 2 times in 72…
Got my trains cancelled 2 times in 72 hours. The second time I received no notice of it whatsoever. 2 hours before I was supposed to take the train I checked online and it said that the train would be 20 minutes late but was circulating. Arrived at the train station: no train and the ticket booth was closed so impossible to change it. I had to wait for ober an hour for the ticket booth to open so i could figure out how to get a train ticket. One SNCF personel was there, aimlessly walking around, not doing anything. When I talked to her she advised me to just get on a train going somewhat clsoe to where I wanted to go wothout taking a ticket. When questionned about whether or not it would be legal and if i could get fined for it she just laughed it off, said she think it could work and that she could help me. At least I was able to get a a new train ticket free of charge. The SNCF is incredibly unprofessional, they do not care about their customers and the incoveniences their laziness causes. If you are to travel in Europe, I would highly recommend you ise bus company or shared car ride. Bus company like Flexibus offer cheaps tickets, most buses have internet and snacks available. And for car ride look at things like Blablacar. SNCF is the worst and should only be ised when you harle really no other alternatives.
Horrible service
Horrible service, I took a train from Lione to Paris, I had to take the Eurostar for London so I booked a train that was supposed to arrive in Paris more than one hour before my train to London. During the journey, the train stopped in the middle of nowhere for nearly one hour, no explanations were made. At the end of the story, I nearly missed my train to London. After that I continue to receive offers from SNCF on my mail, I unsubscribed from them service a score of time but I continue to receive unsolicited mails.
SNCF SUCKS
Train service in France is terrible! All they do is strike every month even though empolyees are well compensated. Since there is no warning and you don't know what trains will be affected, you are ultimately screwed. Recommend travelers find other means of travel since the train service is unreliable, expensive, and not exacly fast. Those days are long gone.
It sucks
It sucks. I've booked two trains from Turin (Italy) to Paris. Both trains have been cancelled with few days of warning.
Train line between Toulouse and…
Train line between Toulouse and Carcassonne blocked on Monday 13th March. Bad enough but all passengers abandoned (told to get off train for buses to complete journey) at a small station with NO facilities or even shelter on a very cold day/night. After 4 hours with NO buses arriving and passengers phoning friends to come and pick them up we (2 Scotsmen with no French) were all that was left. A railway employee said NO buses were coming so 206 euro's for a taxi to Carcassonne (early morning flight). Thanks to kind man who actually knew a taxi number and helped us out. Last trip to France!
Poor experience - really bad service
I called Voyages SNCF yesterday to book my bicycle on a TGV - they don't let you do this on their website. I waited for more than 10 minutes before being connected. The adviser was surly and unhelpful, and was unable to tell me the times and prices for different trains on the same day, so I could make an informed choice about the best time to travel. The line then cut out. I ended up using a different company, and would never use Voyages SNCF again - it was really bad service.
Proper Scam Company, Stay Away !
The service I paid for got cancelled.
I asked for refund several times.
A staff member named Frederic GAILLOT from SNCF loyalty program advisor took my request but never answered any of my e-mails again.
Stay away. I will never use this company again.
Worst service
unacceptable service
unacceptable, did not send us our tickets for which we had to pay twice once in france, and then refused to refund them after making us jump through loops! An utter waste of time, money, spoilt our holidays, never again..
Website Sales UK SNCF same as RailEurope
Unless you want to waste hours, do not use UK Voyages SNCF (RailEurope) to book online. NB you will be automatically redirected to UK Voyages SNCF from SNCF. Instead use the European version of the SNCF site. The short reason for this is that UK Voyages SNCF [UKSNCF] display journeys with prices they cannot sell you but do not explain this to you, instead telling you your card is the problem once you've completed the entire buying process. This wasted hours and hours of my time. There is no standard cost UK number to ring for help. There is no complaints or email address to write to on their site. Long version below.
I selected a return London to Bourg St Maurice December 2017, and when I came to pay, after the visa verification process, the site rejected payment and said problem with card. I tried in total over 3 days around 15 times. I contacted my bank online. Bank wrote back to say no problem with my card. I tried 3 different cards. Debit and Credit. Mastercard and Visa. Two different browsers. Two different laptops. Someone else's card. I changed visa verification code, I changed all cookie settings, logged in as guest.
I looked on the SNCF French, SNCF Europe, Eurostar sites to note that same tickets at same price did not exist. So I rang the 0844 UK SNCF number for online booking help that was displayed on the error message I got each time it rejected my payment for the booking. I spoke to someone (in Barcelona) who said they could not find the tickets I was trying to book. And they could not access the system as it was presenting to me online with the said tickets prices etc. Next day I submitted a help form to UK SNCF, they wrote back and told me it was a problem with my bank card -- that is in spite of me telling them I have already tried different cards.
Then I phoned up the SNCFUK Customer Services Number number given to me in the written reply just referred to and turned out to be the same 0844 number as above and was told that due to SNCF no longer owning the local company which runs trains for the final leg of the journey (Chambery to Bourg St Maurice), this fare could not be dealt with by the online booking UK SNCF site -- in other words the computer could not 'compute' when it tried to charge the amount for this fare to my card. But no message explaining that comes up during the booking process or after or before. This was the correct reason for the failure of my booking to go through. The previous 2 UK SNCF advisors (phone at a cost to me of £8 for 11 minutes) had not told me this. These fares that are not possible to buy were on UK SNCF site for at least all of last week (20th to 28th October 2017) and still are. The problem with the UK SNCF software and displayed tickets is known about by UK SNCF -- yet no information re this on their website. UK SNCF will argue that they do not guarantee that a price displayed is available. But we are talking about a ticket (varying by a few pounds up or down) that I have tried to buy over several days many times and cannot be bought even if I changed the times dates (because the issue is the JOURNEY not the PRICE -- the journey was not possible to buy on their site yet it displayed this journey with prices etc).
Not only did I waste hours of my and other people's time, I incurred the cost of £8 for a call to the online booking help number 0844 number given on the online error message. And it will be similar (not showing yet on my account) or more for the second call to their customer services number -- the same number. There is no UK standard landline to phone -- 01 or 0345 or 0845. Look at UKSNCF help contact page for how incredibly unhelpful it is. (TrustPilot does not allow posting of links). This is what it says: Need to contact us? You’re spoilt for choice! You can use social networks, speak directly to our advisors, or send us an email, we are here to answer your questions, however they may be asked! But on the same page, there is no email and no telephone number at all (let along a reasonably priced one). No links to these either.
There is also no email address or postal address for complaints to UKSNCF. When I search complaints and UKSNCF I get a page saying, Complain, it's possible! But with no links or details on who to write to, email or ring.
Anyone who wants to book with SNCF should use the European version of the actual SNCF site (top right of SNCF website has the option) in Euros, and pay with a Credit Card that does not charge for conversion. Tickets are then posted to your address in UK.
As said, UK SNCF [RailEurope] is not the same site as SNCF. Over years this has caused issues. There are numerous posts online about how to avoid the automatic direction from French SNCF (ie, the actual SNCF) to UKSNCF. The same options for booking (seats/sleeper compartments) were not available on UKSNCF -- indeed this subsidiary UKSNCF does not have the same trains, same options, same search software. Why is there not one single SNCF site for Europe with a currency selection and ticket collection option (station departing from) at the end. Why do people from the UK need to buy their SNCF tickets via a subsidiary online when this company doesn't even have UK points of sale (except London) or a standard UK phone number to ring.
Worst train ride in the history
Worst train ride in the history! crazy price for crappy (tihs) service. Do yourself a favor and avoid these people at all cost. You are honestly better taking the USA Greyhound bus than these worthless trains!
AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!
SNCF don't give a flying TOSS about their customers
Probably a story told by many people over the years, but here goes, took the TGV from Paris to Nice two tickets one way 360 euros train dirty toilets filthy with no paper but that wasn't the main issue, during the journey we had our wallet stolen all our cash our credit card driving licence passport and my disability card when we discovered this as we were getting off the train we searched for an employee of SNCF after several minutes found a so called security guard who informed us either to put our complaint in writing or go to the nearest police station THEY DONT CARE so we went to police station and made a report before returning to the station in the hope of being able to use the waiting room and the so called free wifi to cancel card message the British Embassy and arrange for funds to be sent from England no sooner had we sat down another employee of SNCF (we shall call him Hitler small mans disease) demanded to see our tickets and we were told to leave the area as our tickets were not valid for onward travel so we spent a night on the car park of the railway station with no food no money nothing to drink would like to thank SNCF for the caring considerate way they treat their customers and would advise others to think twice before booking with them oh and even though we had the police report they wouldn't even allow us to use the toilets because we didn't have the 1.60 euro they charge in the station worst service and customer care ever experienced SNCF VOUS ETS MERDE
