Evaluating 70 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the payment conditions, particularly regarding interest earnings, and felt the changes were unfair and designed to make it difficult to qualify. Customers also frequently reported poor service and non-existent customer support, experiencing long wait times, unhelpful interactions, and issues with account access and verification. Change banks, and NEVER look back

With UBank for 10 years, growing my savings nicely and taking modest (yet very helpful) interest every month. How Ubank decided that changing the rules of earning interest to conditional rather than balance-based was a good idea is astonishing. Basically "meet this condition or you get zero" after 10 or more years of loyalty. Bye UBank, I hope many more people leave in droves.

Bonus Interest is Difficult to meet

I have been a loyal customer of uBank since 2015. Although uBank was conventional in adopting new technology but I was happy with how they treated the customers back then.
I really like their features such as auto sweep, auto debit from savings account and etc although it was late in adopting fast payment.
However, these features were slowly taken away, the auto sweep was removed followed by the auto debit from savings. You can only setup auto debit from spending account which means you need to park your money for the payment days in advance and they don’t accrue interest.
As many other reviewers, the final straw was when they changed how you earn bonus interest. I have received $0 interest from uBank for the past 2 months and thanks to their new policy. I believe I have contributed to the bonus payment to their top management and kudos to them for their genious policy. I get nothing and they get big bucks for the creative idea. What a top management oriented policy.

Adios uBank. You were once a great online bank.

They are a joke.

Absolute joke that now your balance has to be one dollar more than the previous month to get your bonus interest.
Have now changed to Macquarie Bank for a tiny bit less interest and no BS conditions attached.
Their banking system and app is so user-friendly I wish I had of signed over to them a long time ago. And you can pay anyone online from the main savings account unlike dumb bank where you have to transfer the money to the Uspend account before it can go anywhere.
Ubank have now become greedy and dumb and even if they reverse their conditions from customer backlash, I will never bank with them again.

Ubank app is the worst

Ubank app is one of the best, however since they changed the bonus rules to now grow your balance plus they reduced the interest rate- they are not worth considering. If youre happy with criteria like this go to ING or others that then pay a high interst rate!. Much better options out there like Bank of Queensland, PN bank , ME BANK and others that dont have this stupid bonus rate criteria to increase the balance AND their interest rates are better as well as their apps being fine. Id say Bank of queensland is the better choice at the moment of all banks. No balance increase and excellent interest rate, app is great. Sorry UBank, You stuffed up. Bye bye

Greedy scumbags

These disgusting greedy scumbags stole hundreds of dollars from me. I had substantial savings in my account for half of the month, yet did not receive any interest. All other banks determine bonus interest eligibility for the next month not for the running month. That means you get nothing if you did not grow your balance during the month, no matter if you have your savings there for most of the month. Do not ever, under any circumstance, use ubank for your savings, because they will rob you (unless you take all your money out on the first day of the new month).

Interest rate rule changes

The changes made to the interest-earning conditions are punitive and seem specifically designed to upset and diddle their clients. Sorry, but the geniuses who thought this up are only thinking of their bonuses, not their clients, or the bank's reputation - what's left of it. I will take my money elsewhere.

UBank Useless & Bad Customer Support

UBank use to pretty good! but since there lasted upgrade. Customer Services chat and phone support is appalling/Stress.

Spend account we can’t close our selves and would need to skip the hurdles to call up and close it. Which is really inconvenience for others

When trying to Organise, expressing shipping mailed for the card. Your team couldn’t deliver.

I’m promised to Close all ACTIVE accounts and staying with. BANKWEST. As They offering 24/7 Support which would be better for me anyways.

If you want to get locked out of your…

If you want to get locked out of your account on a Friday afternoon, when their joke of a call centre has gone home for the weekend so you can't access a cent of your own money without any warning, Ubank is the bank for you!! Avoid at all costs. Deprivation of liberty at its finest!! 40mins on the phone and nothing can be done!!! Nothing?! Absolutely vile.

The interest rate switch is ridiculous

The interest rate switch is ridiculous; basically if you are saving for a holiday or have emergency funds, when you actually start using those funds, you lose any interest accrued across all of your saving accounts. What is the point of all these features and enabling people to setup joint accounts if you are going to make them all redundant?
The call centre seems to be staffed by Himalayan chipmunks (e.g. non existent); an hour wait to talk to someone during business hours is unacceptable and telling me to hangup unless my call is "urgent" is not a solution. You are not emergency services, staff your centres and organise a callback service.

Changes in how you earn bonus interest

I’ve been with Ubank for a while and always liked how simple it was to earn bonus interest. Now the rules have changed and it’s become confusing and harder to qualify, especially if you need to use your savings and then top them back up. It feels like the new system makes saving more difficult instead of rewarding it.

The support team were polite and offered a goodwill payment, which I appreciate, but the overall changes have taken away the value that made Ubank attractive in the first place. I hope they reconsider the criteria, because right now it’s not as customer-friendly as it used to be.

UBANK PAID $0.00 INTEREST ON MY SAVINGS…

UBANK PAID $0.00 INTEREST ON MY SAVINGS IN NOVEMBER 2025!
UBank changed its bonus interest policy on 1 October 2025 with a condition to GROW the balance by $1 every month. On 31 October 2025 my, and my wife's, balances with UBank were over $271,000. I decided to move away from UBank and drained my accounts before the end of November knowing I wouldn't be eligible for bonus interest for December 2025, but UBANK DID NOT PAY ME 1 CENT FOR THE USE OF MY MONEY IN NOVEMBER 2025. I was expecting about $800 in interest for November and got $0.00 - IT'S CRIMINAL!

They locked my account

I did not listen to the reviews. I still went ahead in opening an account with them because I don't mind the $1 increase in savings criteria. I transfered our savings to ubank and they locked my account because they want to know where I got the money from. I emailed back and explained my side. They said they will get back to me within 1 business day. This is the third business day and still my account is locked. Been trying to follow up via email and call but no luck.
Now my money is stuck there. I would not recommend ubank to anyone. Better go with mcquarie or ING.

Super disappointed with the updated T&Cs Interest on Savings.

Super disappointed. Switched all my accounts to Ubank and they were great. Until recently, when they decided I have to have grown my savings by $1 each month to get ANY interest? This is stupid for so many reasons. I use my account for saving, but also for emergencies that require larger sums of money and so will occasionally need to take money from this account, as I assume most people do. Will be looking at closing this account very soon for this reason.

*** UPDATE
Moved savings to Macquarie Bank. Was easy and seamless and now I have my savings earning interest without any bullshit.

I tried to open a savings account

I tried to open a savings account. Despite providing name dob email and driver's license I received a message that "computer says NO". I rang the bank. They could not tell me why I am apparently a criminal at the age of 72. THEY CAN'T DIVULGE WHY. "Have a nice day" we ended our conversation with.

I personally have had no issues with this bank. I send all my transfers on the day they are to be sent myself, I have never trusted Auto payments with any bank.

Payments are instant, only once have I had to wait 24 hours and that was the very first transfer which is standard.

I'm too poor to save money, so the idea of having 500 to a grand a month to save for interest is not only impossible but a fantasy that will never be fulfilled.

Work pays me, money goes to bank, bank holds money till I have to send my self destitute paying bills, rinse & repeat weekly.

Ubank is perfect for this.
