My 6 year old home educated daughter has been having phonics lessons with one of Portia’s tutors for several months now, and we’re are delighted with her progress!
As a very reluctant reader and writer, I was worried that she wouldn’t enjoy it online, but the teacher is fun, bubbly and makes the lesson very interactive with games, short videos and songs. The lesson reports are really useful as I can follow up with activities between lessons too. In my daughter’s words: “I actually really enjoy these lessons!”

This has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing customer experiences I have ever encountered.

An unexpected payment was taken from my card, and instead of receiving clear, honest, and accountable communication, I was met with what felt like scripted responses, a complete lack of empathy, and an apparent unwillingness to properly address the issue. At no point did I feel like my concerns were being taken seriously.

The company was remarkably efficient when it came to taking money, yet showed none of that urgency when it came to investigating the problem or providing a fair resolution. Every interaction left me with the impression that customer satisfaction and basic decency are secondary to maximising revenue.

What was particularly disappointing was the lack of human engagement. Responses felt generic, impersonal, and dismissive, as though resolving concerns was less important than closing tickets and moving on. Rather than accepting responsibility or demonstrating any genuine concern, the company appeared focused on defending its position regardless of the facts presented.

Trust is difficult to earn and very easy to lose. Unfortunately, this experience has completely destroyed any confidence I had in this business. If you value transparency, customer care, and being treated with respect when something goes wrong, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Based on my experience, I would not use this company again, nor would I recommend them to others.

Portia deserves the highest praise for her incredible work. My daughter had difficulty with Maths and suffered from low confidence, but Portia truly transformed her situation. The improvement in both her grades and self-assurance has been remarkable.

If you have any queries, it is really easy to get in touch with Portia and her tutors - everything is clear and upfront, including class scheduling / rescheduling and payments. The classes themselves are good and engaging, tutors are qualified teachers in their subjects. There is flex with class lengths as well with half hour and 45 minute options available which is exactly what we needed. Highly recommend.

Extremely supportive to my daughter who had struggled so much at school. Happy to accommodate times and days if they needed to be changed. My daughters tutor Clair was amazing, kind and someone who actually cared when my daughter didn’t understand. Absolutely amazing service, couldn’t fault it at all.

My daughter has improved so much by using this tutoring service. Amy her tutor has been fantastic and she really clicks with Ella. We’ve noticed a huge improvement in Ella’s English skills. It’s great that it is on line and means that there’s no rushing around to get anywhere. Fantastic ☺️

My daughter had Portia as her Maths tutor for over two years and we both had a wonderful experience. All lessons were well planned out and very relevant to her ability plus a little pushing for my daughter to achieve her full potential. Portia is very kind, caring and very patient. We miss seeing Portia !

Portia was helpful and professional at all times. There are a range of tutors and times available for sessions. My child has grown in confidence and gained the skills required in preparation for their exams. I would highly recommend Portia.

I cannot recommend Portia highly enough, my daughter struggled with Maths and her confidence was so low, Portia worked wonders with her and the increase in her grades and belief in herself has been amazing.

My experience was really great as all the tutors offered great communication, they were able to adapt lessons to accommodate my weaknesses that I wanted to work on and even provide extra work after lessons where I could practice any work outside of the lesson. I was able to build my confidence and get better with work and solving problems through the regular lessons. It was so helpful and my grades have improved massively in the past year. I would 100% recommend.

Portia and her team are patient, kind and supportive. They are very knowledgeable and always willing to take time to ensure material is properly understood.

The creative writing workshop was superb. My child thoroughly enjoyed it and left wanting more. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to bring more skill and joy to their writing.

My daughter receives one virtual tutoring session a week with Bek from ‘Tutoring with Portia’. Since Covid, my daughter had lost her confidence in maths so I thought I would see if an online tutor could help. I am so happy I got in contact with Portia. My daughter has weekly maths sessions with Bek and I can already see my daughters confidence increase. Its lovely to see her able to ask Bek questions when she does not understand which she would not usually do in a class room due to being too shy. My daughter really looks forward to her tutoring sessions and always so excited to tell me what she has learnt. I have always been so impressed with the sessions Bek plans for each week. Portia has always been great with communication and I have already recommended Tutoring with Portia to all of my daughters class parents.

We have been really pleased with Portia and Bek. They have done a great job building up our son’s confidence and helping plug the gaps after lockdown. Friendly, productive tutoring and we would highly recommend!

Portia has been an absolute ‘find’! She has turned education around for my son. Before Portia, he lacked interest and self-belief. She is kind, inspiring, fun and extremely patient. She tailor makes every lesson to engage and get the best out of my son. His confidence and ability wouldn’t be where it is now without Portia.
