T. Rowe Price closed my account without talking to me.
They didn't even call me. I just got a letter and a check in the mail. They sold all my investments, which were over $180,000 and took $22,000 in fees. That's a lot of money.
I will also have to pay a lot of taxes because of this, $40,000. I am really upset. I called T. Rowe Price. They said someone would help me in 5 to 7 business days. I am worried about my money. This is the money I saved for when I retire. I do not know how T. Rowe Price can do this.
If T. Rowe Price has closed your account or charged you a lot of fees you should talk to Poma Advisory. They can help you get your money back, from brokers who do things without asking you.
You have to be careful. T. Rowe Price can hurt your future without telling you. They can take all your money. You will not be able to do anything about it. T. Rowe Price does not care about their customers.
Concerning system issues
I have been trying to execute a simple online transaction all week and have been unsuccessful, first the website was completely down, I could not access account via phone either, and once back up I continue to receive an error code that no one is able to identify. I have even offered suggestions based on my own knowledge of systems. Zero customer service.
RUN FROM THIS COMPANY
I’m just gonna copy and paste the letter that I sent them which explains everything and not to mention this has been ongoing for a year now. Worst customer service, no follow-through or communication.
“ I wanted to resolve an issue than has been very frustrating and gone on too long. I had an account through Pony Studios and I was told that the plan had stopped. I had my financial advisor reach out and get a check of the funds to roll over into another account. We got a check for $7,376.93.
Months later I get a statement saying that I have a balance of $2,055.22. After I logging on and seeing this, I get an email a few days later with a document stating a bunch of fees and Termination of Employment that basically takes the fund to $0. I called TRowe only to be talked to rudely and basically yelled at and told that any accounts that were under $2,000 TRowe doesn’t deal with, and they were transferred to some other bank (without me being notified or provided any account number)
I was given a phone number to call someone in Utah about it?? This number has no answering message or info and just beeps. I have left a few voicemails. (If this number is even real)
Now I have received a 1099R statement showing a rollover of 9,307. I never received that additional $1930.71
I have attached the screenshots of the info I am referencing. I don’t even understand how any of this can be legal and I need this resolved ASAP. I want the $1930.71 to be returned to me I am beyond furious.”
After a 30-year relationship with T
After a 30-year relationship with T. Rowe Price, I am in the process of transferring accounts in excess of $500,000 away from the firm, and the experience has been nothing short of a complete disgrace.
What should have been a simple, routine account transfer has turned into over three hours of wasted time dealing with a Customer Service department that appears to be disorganized, poorly trained, and incapable of providing accurate information. Every single call has produced a new problem, a new requirement, or a new excuse — all of which should have been identified and disclosed during the very first conversation.
The level of incompetence has been staggering. The lack of professionalism, communication, follow-through, and basic product knowledge is far below what anyone should tolerate from a major financial institution. This is not a minor inconvenience — this is a firm handling substantial client assets with an alarming level of inefficiency and apparent indifference.
What is most shocking is that this comes after 30 years as a loyal client. Instead of rewarding long-term relationships with competent service, T. Rowe Price has demonstrated exactly the opposite: poor execution, no accountability, and a complete disregard for the client’s time.
This experience has permanently destroyed my confidence in T. Rowe Price. I will never again invest in any product associated with this company, and I would strongly caution anyone considering doing business with them to think twice. If this is how they handle a straightforward transfer for a long-term client with over $500,000 in assets, I can only imagine how poorly they treat everyone else.
Extremely disappointing. Completely unacceptable. I would not recommend T. Rowe Price to anyone.
Alseep at the Wheel at T Rowe Price - terrible experience
I've been a T Rowe Price customer for 50 years and am considering switching to Vanguard or Fidelity.
I don't even know where to start but they duplicated a mutual fund purchase causing an overdraw of my savings account. I reversed the transaction and called them to sort it out. They said they would correct it the next day and a week later nothing. I should have ignored it because the market sold off 8%, but called them up to complain and remind them they were supposed to fix it. They fixed it alright, but retroactively so I immediately lost 10% on the trades.
Furthermore, there were 10 trades and the first one was drawn out of my savings account as requested, but the other 9 were drawn out of my checking account. Luckily I had sufficient balances so not to be overdrawn and was able to transfer my funds the next day to bring checking account balances back up again. They've gone downhil terribly
My first experience using this service…
My first experience using this service was frustrating and disappointing. I spent hours on the phone just trying to complete a withdrawal from my plan, something I had initially attempted to do on my own. Unfortunately, the process was blocked because their third party provider don't approve my bank.
From there, my only option were to either pay an additional fee for faster processing or wait 7-14 days to receive it check my mail.
What added to the frustration was the tax calculation. The amount they estimated for Federal taxes was nearly double what I expected, which raised concern about accuracy and transparency.
I will keep saying it loud and clear anytime any day, the only investment service I have used and successful withdrawal my funds is (Bitci Stack Asset platform) which I found on Trustpilot after doing my proper due diligence.
Overall, the experience felt unnecessary complicated, with limited digital access and lack of clarity around important details.
Run away
Run away. Do not come back. After about 3 hours on the phone, and countless hours on the website and my account the bottom line is as follows.......if someone has to fix something on your account you can't speak to them. You get someone who doesn't actually fix anything, who talks to the person who fixes something. You get a lot of "this should work" or "I'm not aware of that". So in sum, if you have a problem you cannot speak to the person who fixes the problem, you go through someone else who doesn't understand the problem. Small business 401k that will be moved elsewhere after 10 years. Great business model, talk to people who don't understand the problem nor can do anything about the problem. Eff off.
I have a retirement account with this…
I have a retirement account with this company through a former employer, and attempting to transfer my funds has been an absolute nightmare.
On my first call, I was told I needed the start date of my current job in order to transfer the money. I didn’t have it in that moment and offered to call my employer and call back — but instead I was told they would “lock” my account and send a form by mail to unlock it.
Three months passed and I received nothing. When I called again, I was told the same thing: they would mail a form to unlock my account (I confirmed my address again). When I asked what the next steps would be after unlocking the account, the representative told me she couldn’t provide details about my account and that I “maybe” would get my money.
This entire process feels unnecessarily complicated and obstructive. They are holding approximately $3,000 of my retirement funds, and the customer service has been unacceptable from start to finish.
If you value your time and your money, I strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Keep your hands off this company! Making a deposit is quite simple. However, it is impossible to make a straightforward withdrawal. After refusing a straightforward withdrawal, which is a typical request, I don't trust them even though I was fully KYC confirmed. They ask for further personal information and claim it's for my safety and i didn't give to them. They refuse to return my money in a straightforward manner! These are techniques used by the mafia. I filed a few lawsuits, followed some instructions that helped get my money released from captivity.
Horrible -Ongoing issue
Horrible, horrible, horrible. Law office trying to assist a client with a transfer of deceased spouses account to surviving spouse who is listed as 100% beneficiary on a substantial IRA account and its current RMD. Initially (8 months ago) it took the assistant 3 hours on the phone with them to get information, forms to fill out, and the forms filled out with their assistance. Eight months later, the beneficiary (who has been receiving statements in their name), called in to get the RMD and was told there was no account; even after giving them all the information from statements, initial participant and beneficiary names, SSN, Plan ID etc. Multiple calls with multiple people. Most times when we call they can't find the account at all under either SSN. The beneficiary transfer docs they requested have been mailed to them twice in the past 8 months (because they do not do email or fax). Occasionally when you call for status update, we get someone who can find the account but says they cannot issue the RMD due to an error code. A ticket gets opened to figure it out. After another couple of calls to check on the ticket you get a new individual who is again telling you there is no account, and no ticket, but there is a plan ID and we have to speak with the Plan Administrator to correct missing information (our office also happens to be the Plan Administrator and the information they request cannot be changed on our end). Requests to speak with a manager have been denied. We will coordinate all parties (plan administrator, heir/beneficiary, PR and attorney, etc) and see if we get anywhere or if we get another “ticket” opened that goes nowhere. I am definitely going to move my personal account - which is obviously going to be a painful process, but then I don't have to worry about any further dealings with them. I would rate T Rowe Price as less than zero stars, but this system requires at least one.
Holden 1 star experience
I worked with Holden at T. Rowe Price to set up a personal investment account, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The account was not set up correctly due to a lack of proper due diligence, which has now resulted in a mandatory two-week waiting period before I can purchase my intended investments.
This delay was entirely avoidable and unacceptable, especially when dealing with time-sensitive financial decisions. Because of this experience, I no longer feel comfortable using T. Rowe Price and will be taking my business elsewhere. I expected a much higher level of care, accuracy, and follow-through.
Don't forget any login info....
I called from work to the company, which handles our 401ks, having forgotten my login info etc. I haven't been on the site in 3 years. I wanted to fix my low contribution amount. Anyways, the rep I get asks me for the email. I don't remember. Asks for first car make and year. Give her info i thought it was and no answer. Asks me how much is in my 401k. It's a low amount and I ballpark it since I don't have a check stub on me. She gets an attitude and says "what?" I repeat myself. No answer. This goes on and on. Could've given her my social, birth town, moms maiden name, sent a selfie, ID, whatever. She never answers me on anything and gets more of an attitude. Finally she obviously doesn't believe me and says they will send out a form for me to sign with a notary to get back in my account. What's on this form I got? My name, address and social and a place for the notary to sign. I gave you all that info!!! Who's calling to steal a miniscule amount of money, with their job Info, with all their info minus to few things I couldn't remember putting from 3 years ago. Good thing for this random notary person watching me sign a piece of paper to mail back. Good job. Just let me log in or at the very least update my number. I'll never call them or use their services again. Besides being rude she made me feel like I was a criminal trying to LOG INTO MY OWN ACCOUNT FROM MY JOB.
Use of disreputable 3rd parties
I was attempting to do a withdrawal from my account, In order to receive it via direct deposit, a client must go through Plaid. When I verified my account via Plaid, the confirmation showed a different account number, one that did not belong to me. T Rowe canceled the transaction but basically told me it was not their problem and to contact Plaid. I did not agree to do business with Plaid. I was ddoing business with TRowe Price.
If you have a choice do not go with T
If you have a choice do not go with T. Rowe price. I have no choice but to work with them through an employer program and it’s a nightmare. Their system sends out an alert that someone tried to access my account, I call in to find out what the alert is for and they ask if I want to freeze access while they research, I directly ask what it will take to get the account unfrozen and they tell me I’ll regain access following their investigation. Great. What they don’t bother to tell me is that to regain access I have to get a form notarized stating I am who I am and I want my account unlocked and it needs to be sent by certified mail. Oh and the alert? Their “investigation” concluded it was a false alarm generated by their system - no one attempted to access my account.
Incompetent and lacking empathy
If I could give less than 1 star, I absolutely would.
My experience with T. Rowe Price has been nothing short of a nightmare. After my father-in-law passed away, my husband contacted them about his accounts — an IRA and a trading account. When he sent through the death certificate, the representative told us there had been “suspicious activity” and that the Transfer on Death (TOD) designation on the trading account had been changed to a third party shortly before my father-in-law died. The rep said the account would be sent to their fraud department.
We were devastated — believing we would have to go to court to fight for what was rightfully my husband’s. We had to go through probate just to obtain the paperwork T. Rowe Price demanded before they would even disclose who the TOD had been changed to. That meant extra legal fees, unnecessary stress, and months of delay.
Then, after all that chaos, the truth came out: the first rep had made a massive mistake. The trading account had always been in my husband’s name. It was the IRA — with only about $10,000 in it — that had a third-party beneficiary. There was no apology, no accountability, nothing. Just silence and excuses.
But that wasn’t the end. For another six weeks, we were repeatedly told the funds were being transferred “soon.” Every time we called, we got a different story. They never respond to emails — apparently all written communication comes from their so-called “writing department” in the Czech Republic, which means every response is delayed by two to three months.
This entire process has been a cruel exercise in incompetence, miscommunication, and bureaucracy. Do not trust your life savings with T. Rowe Price. If this is how they treat grieving families and long-time clients, I shudder to think how they handle everyday investors.
Do not invest any money with T Rowe Price. They cannot be trusted with it.
T Rowe Price issued my tax form failing to include my SSN. I am unable to process any tax refund without the fully completed form (ie including my SSN). On requesting a corrected form (perhaps 2 minutes of work to add my 9 digit SSN), they refused. Their mistake and refusal to correct it is costing me over $12000. It is totally impossible to speak directly with their tax office who deal with these issues. I have asked on numerous occasions and have been told repeatedly that it is not possible to speak with them directly. As a result I have to deal with customer service, who do not have the authority or competence to resolve the issue, and simply pass messages back on forth. As a result I have formally complained by letter (3 letters), all asking for a written response to explain what is going on. As of today, almost 3 months since the first letter, I have not received any reply.
It is poor that such a large company makes such a fundamental mistake in issuing a tax form, but absolutely disgraceful that they refuse to correct the mistake and avoid all communication. I repeat, their appalling behaviour is costing me over $12000, simply because they will not correct an incomplete form that they issued incorrectly. Stay away from T Rowe Price!
Retirement services team is completely…
Retirement services team is completely inept. They’ll pleasantly tell you all kinds of misinformation like, if you authorize us to lock your account to investigate where an unauthorized verification text came from the process will take 24-48 hours and then we will unlock the account. Two weeks later they’ll call you to tell you no fraud was found and to send them a notarized letter certified mail to regain access to your account. Non stop lies because the reps make up answers when they have no idea what the answer is.
I’m extremely disappointed
I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at T. Rowe Price. I requested a rollover back in July and kept following up every two weeks. Each time, I was told to check with the other party and even that a new check might need to be sent. After months of frustration, I just found out they never sent the check in the first place. That means I was misled the entire time.
Right now, I’ve been sitting on hold for 45 minutes waiting for a supervisor to explain why this happened. This level of negligence and lack of transparency is unacceptable. If you value your time and money, be cautious about working with them.
New person and new way of dealing with clients
As can be seen from the previous reviews actually getting something from a cal agent is not necessarily easy. But today I was helped by Claire Pew. What a different experience. She listens, asks and then does and if she does not know she asks and gets back to you!! Well done Claire and what a good hire
