Absolutely misleading people and I am…

Absolutely misleading people and I am Absolutely disgusted. I requested a refund for misleading advertisement and they refused. They advertise $ on the activity in NZ. Being from the same town it meant NZD. I check my bank account and they charged 2 times the price locally. There are other countries around the globe that has $ sign as their local currency. Their price should stated USD on the actual activity not the site. Disgusting experience and will definitely never book again on any TripAdvisor site. Avoid at ALL cost!

Hideously overcharges

They don’t tell you they’re quoting in USD. Also they overcharged me for Weta Workshops!

Here’s a copy of my complaint to them:

When I booked with you, I was only able to select the option of 4 adults and 3 children.

I later found out (at Weta) I had been overcharged massively because TripAdvisor did not allow me the option to select the family pass!

You charged me $379.78 for 4 adults and 3 children.

On Wētā’s website (see attached screenshot) for a 2 adult and 2 children pass it is $114 ($155 non discounted rate). For 2 adults and 1 child it is $86 ($145 non discounted rate).

If I had booked via Weta it would have cost me $200. Booking through you cost me an additional $179.78! Part of this confusion was your website did not make it clear that you were charging me in USD.

I would like to give you the opportunity to give me a partial refund.

TripAdvisor is a total sham

TripAdvisor is a total sham. At no time did they disclose that they were quoting USD dispite searching in NZ for an NZ experience. I only found out when the charge hit my credit card. That meant that I paid well above retail price when really good discounts were available elsewhere. Their so called price guarantee is meaningless drivel they hide behind. "Must be same currency", "must be 48hrs before" etc

Customer service team were robots who repeated the same lines and didn't try to help.

I say, stay away from this misleading and shocking USA company who are just parasites scalping people's money

Overcharged

Booked on line and price quoted 22NZD. At destination driver asked for 30NZD. I told him price quoted and he said that was the day rate. I paid and did comparison with Uber who quoted 18NZD. Used Uber for return. Then the company sent me a receipt for 15 NZD which was what the driver told them he charged. You need to be aware.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

We booked some tours in Queenstown and one of the tours we had to cancel. I already gave a heads up "before the refund is processed" that my card was lost hence they will need to send it to a new card number.

First of all, the link the 'contact us' was faulty. It doesn't allow you to write on the message box so you can't submit it. I had to jump to different hoops to get a valid email address. Then I got a response that the refund was processed automatically using the card I used to book and that I need to arrange that with my bank. First of all, the bank won't even receive it because the card was canceled and blocked. This is infuriating me.

NZD or USD

Seeing costs listed as $ in New Zealand you could be forgiven thinking this is NZD. Trip advisor, however, will not forgive you, and you will end up paying more than the regular cost of an experience. Don’t use this site.

Trip Advisor - we would NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYON

My most negative experience in 61 years, dealing with Trip Advisor who negligently or deliberately misrepresented the pricing for an Auckland Skytower visit this January 2025.
Trip Advisor does not have an email that works as via the contact page - the email listed kept bouncing back. There is no direct number to call for customer service; only a general number. The customer service was unhelpful and refused to offer any refund on the currency difference which had it been obvious, we would not have bothered to book with Trip Advisor.
Quite a revealing experience in that we will never use TripAdvisor ever again, nor would we recommend TripAdvisor to friends, colleagues, or family. We would only ever recommend Trip Advisor to people we want to have an unpleasant encounter dealing with them!

As a motel owner i think Tripadvisor is just a platform for some narcissists too vent their rage and hate i never reply to them like i would booking.com who require investigation into an issue between guest and whatever the business is. There is 0 fact checking and i wouldn’t use this company for bookings and it read review to determine if i would stay or eat it whatever. Tripadvisor in my opinion is sad and pathetic.

Choclate Eclair Shop Ohakune NZ

I was a fan of Chocolate Eclair shop in Ohakune NZ but my last visit 5.7.24 the eclairs were smaller, tougher and not as nice. The $4 sausage roll was mostly pastry and little meat. A shame this has been a great shop for years but since it changed hands it has deteriorated a bit.

Poor. Lives in north lancashireLancaster

Poor.

Since the change over in March things have rapidly detiorated. Been coming to the Roysl Oak for years always top rated and vrry generous servings. But after today's meal that is the last time
We will step over the threshold.
The prices have increased much smaller portions and the overall quality of food has gone down hill rapidly. Last week we had the cod not in batter came with a jug of sauce it was grey dry and was served with cabbage and carrots. It was poor never ever left food on a plate in the Royal Oak before. Today we had macaroni cheese it came with a side salad two pieces of burnt
garlic bread and it had no flavour what so ever just very bland and we left half of it. You are ruining the reputation of what used to be a pub one could rely on for food excellence.

2 weeks in Aucklands grandest hostel/accommodation

I have nearly completed a fortnight stay at the Haka house hostel in Auckland CBD
I truly recommend a stay at this hostel they have dorm rooms deluxe singles and double rooms
The dorms have privacy curtains and come with charging slots, 2 plugs plus a light.
The kitchens bathrooms are always kept to a very high cleanliness standard.
The kitchens are very spacious and are well catered for with everything you need.
They have a tv room a movie and games room. The staff are absolutely amazing and will work hard to give you the best possible stay in Haka house.
There is a snack machine offering a bit of everything drinks snacks noodles
I truly reccomend a night at the Haka House for solo travellers and couples
The Haka house is located at Turners street CBD which is a 10 minute walk from CBD which garuntees you a quite night sleep away from the noise of the bars and nightclubs. There is an excellent laundry facility with iron to help keep you looking amazing I truly recommend a night at Haka House

I made a booking and TripAdvisor made no mention they were charging me in usd until after the booking had been confirmed. Obviously very dishonest because of the currency difference between usd and nzd. Not honest
