Disappointing and Expensive trip to Greece with Travelive.

I took my niece to Greece spending $1,300 a day for 10 days hotel and 3 tours. The tours were bad, OK, bad. The hotel rooms went from OK ($200 a night) to bad, to wrong room ordered. As an experienced traveler I wanted to ensure we got good hotel rooms. I should have booked the trip myself. When I brought up the issues to Travelive they lied, made stuff up, stonewalled me for several months transferring me to different people, and did nothing. Their customer service was very poor.

I have added this in response to Travelive response to my negative review. Their response is exactly what I am talking about, making things up. They should know that Jan B. the third person was not with us because they booked her hotel room in Mykonos. She was not with us in Athens, Nafplio, or Santorini. $12,098/2=$6,049 a person.

I paid for the trip in October 2023 when my rooms were booked - 7 months before my trip. The hotel room in Athens was on the first floor of a high rise on a busy street. Not a quality room that is conducive for sleeping well. My agent and I reviewed all of the rooms at the Homeric Poems and picked the only room that would work for me and my niece (2 people). It was described perfectly on my itinerary but Travelive booked the wrong room. The hotel manager knew immediately which room I should have had based on the written itinerary but it now wasn't available. I hardly slept in Santorini - having to walk across a catwalk and down two flights of stairs to get to the bathroom. I didn't realize until I got back that Travelive didn't know the hotel well - thought all rooms were the same - and didn't order the room my agent and I picked. I paid for 4 tours of four hours each so don't know where the 21 hours of private guides came from.

My niece had never traveled overseas and wasn't paying for her share of the trip. She had no idea that the tours were $1,200 each for 4 hours and was shocked. Would she have felt the same if she was an experienced traveler, with prior experience with guides, who paid for her own trip? She would not. The guide in Naflio could hardly walk, was severely disabled, sick, and was very hard to understand. The guide in Athens didn't have tickets for us so we waited over 1/2 hour to get in to the museum. That is why she was frantically running us around - passing up things I wanted to see. I never made a choice in Santorini to take a morning tour over an afternoon tour so that is wrong. If my travel agent had said you need to take an afternoon tour or we won't be able to do over half the things on the tour of course I would have picked the later time. That was never an option.

So if you want a travel service that although expensive, doesn't have quality guides (in my experience), that makes booking errors that aren't fixable, and stonewalls any complaints, than Travelive is your company.

Dear Mary Jo,

Thank you again for your feedback. I’d like to clarify several important points and reiterate the efforts made by both Travelive and our partners throughout your journey.

Booking Overview

May 11–27, 2024 (High Season)
Athens, Nafplio, Santorini
3 guests | $12,098.66 total (~$4,032.88 per person)
This included hotels, private tours, transfers, domestic travel, and entry fees—at ~$252 per person/day, below our typical starting point of $5,000 per person for 10–12 nights.

Planning Process

As a Destination Management Company (DMC), Travelive works with travel advisors to deliver seamless, customized experiences. In this case, we collaborated closely with your travel advisor to design a comprehensive itinerary that balanced comfort, cultural depth, and value. Over 150 emails and several Zoom calls were exchanged, with multiple itinerary revisions and upgrades provided.

Accommodations

Elia Ermou – Athens: When the confirmed Deluxe Twin room was declined, you opted for a downgrade. Travelive refunded the difference.

Homeric Poems – Santorini: The Cave Suite with Caldera View was the correct and confirmed room. Due to Santorini’s unique cliffside architecture, configurations vary. The hotel offered multiple solutions—including a room change, rollaway, and cot—all of which were declined.

Glyfada Riviera – Athens: Travelive upgraded you to a two-bedroom suite at no additional cost.

Communication & Conduct

Your travel advisor and I remained consistent points of contact throughout. We responded promptly and thoroughly to every concern, offering fact-based clarifications and actionable resolutions. Unfortunately, these were repeatedly declined. Additionally, we received multiple reports of rude behavior toward hotel staff, guides, and drivers. These professionals strive to deliver exceptional service, and we expect all guests to treat them with respect.

From Your Travel Agent

Your advisor also shared a detailed letter outlining the planning process and efforts made to resolve your concerns. Her perspective reflects the same commitment to service and transparency that we uphold at Travelive:

“Along with Travelive, we worked hard to create a trip within your budget and expectations.
Travelive is a reputable company I’ve worked with several times. They produced several revisions to meet your expectations.
Jennifer (niece) said: ‘We are having the BEST time! Nafplio is beautiful! Hotel is fabulous.’
Regarding Elia Ermou, you declined to view the Deluxe Twin and chose to downgrade. Travelive refunded the difference.
The Athens tour was a 4-hour walking tour. The guide noted the group was lagging, which may explain why it felt short.

At Homeric Poems, the room matched our criteria. The hotel offered several solutions—including a room change, a rollaway, and a cot—but none were accepted.

In Santorini, Travelive originally scheduled the tour at 3 PM to avoid cruise ship crowds. You requested a morning tour, and they accommodated.

In Glyfada, Travelive upgraded you to a two-bedroom suite at no cost.

You compared your trip to another client’s, but theirs had more free time and fewer inclusions. Your itinerary included 27 hours of transfers, 21 hours of private guides, entry fees, and domestic travel.
I corresponded with your group over 150 times and held several Zoom meetings. Travelive was responsive and professional throughout.
I’m truly sorry you were not happy. Jennifer described the trip as ‘life-changing.’ I wish you all the best in future travel. I will not be a part of coordinating any further trips for you.”

We regret that your experience did not align with your expectations. However, we stand by the professionalism of our team, the quality of our services, and the integrity of our long-standing partnerships.

Warm regards,

Travelive Knocks it out of the Park Again

I discovered Travelive post Covid and they have knocked it out of the park every time. Clients always have an amazing unique experience. Recent clients 2nd time using Travelive had a fantastic time from the private tours, guides who treated them like family to the drivers who were so knowledgeable giving them a tour of their own and the icing on the cake the Private Cooking class instructed by Maria! You know you've met a friend for life when Maria emails you 70 recipes after meeting you that were her mothers. This was incredible the clients were so excited to share their experience with me.

A total ripoff …

My travel agent used Travelive to book several excursions in Athens before a cruise. My flight was delayed and even though the company was notified 24 hours before, I still had to pay for all excursions that I didn’t make. What’s worse is I had to pay twice for one airport transfer - almost 1800 total!
The excursion I booked through Viator was fantastic and I was able to cancel 24 hours out.
I would never use this company again

Dear Dr. Starnes,
I wanted to personally address your feedback regarding your recent experience with Travelive, and I am sorry for the inconvenience caused by the unfortunate flight delay resulting in your subsequent missed connection to Greece. We understand how disappointing it must have been to miss your planned excursions and would like to address your concerns with charges associated with these services.
We always strive to accommodate any changes or disruptions to our guests’ plans as much as possible. In this case, our team was on standby and ready to make adjustments once we received your updated flight information. Until the update was received, all services were kept confirmed. However, the final notification was received via email outside of our business hours (4:52AM) and just a few hours before the scheduled services (8:20AM). As a result, the driver and VIP Airport Assistant were already dispatched and waiting for your original arrival. This is why the services were charged as confirmed, as per the terms provided prior to your trip.
It was several hours after we reached out via text that we received your call at 2:30 PM Athens local time, during which we discussed your updated arrival on the 22nd. With your approval, we reconfirmed a new airport transfer along with the VIP Airport Assistance for an additional cost of $822.00 for your group of four. We also offered to reschedule your Acropolis tour to the following day at no additional charge. Moreover, we offered to assist with any documentation you might need to file a claim with your travel insurance.
The services we offer differ significantly from those available through platforms like Viator, as they are tailored, private experiences designed by vetted Licensed Guides and professionals. The VIP Airport Arrival Assistance is a particularly exclusive service, provided by specialists with the security clearance to fast-track you through customs and expedite your time at the airport. Since these professionals are privately employed by Athens International Airport, their policies are independent, and cancellations made within 24 hours are fully charged, per their terms.
We understand that travel can have many disruptions that are outside our control and for this reason we position our terms and conditions and strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your trip investment.
That said, we did make efforts to reschedule and offer you the Acropolis tour on the following day at on a complimentary basis (kindly note that the tickets were non-refundable) and provided support for your transfer. As a goodwill gesture, we will be a happy to extend a $300 credit, even though insurance was declined after being recommended by both Travelive and your travel agent.
We hope that this helps clarify and we wish you many wonderful trips ahead.

Our 40th anniversary trip to Italy…

Our 40th anniversary trip to Italy started in Rome with private tours to the Colosseum, the Vatican, an evening tour of Rome in a golf cart. The private guides were great, golf cart tour was difficult to see much due to traffic. Hotel in Rome was wonderful! Clean, friendly staff and great location for Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. From there we went to Tuscany. Hotel here was La Collegiata in San giamingiano. and was terrible. Seasonal Restaurant (which we were not made aware of) was closed. We ate from a small bar menu on a coffee table holding our plates. We spent 3 hours each way in a vehicle for our winery tours. Made no sense to stay so far away from our destinations. Had we stayed in Siena, we would have been 2 hours closer to the wineries we visited and 45 minutes from san giagmingiano. Breakfast at 8:00, no coffee available before that. Leaving for tours at 8:30 made it difficult to eat and be ready. Dark musty rooms, Hot tubs were dirty, no tissues in hotel rooms, paper thin walls, unfriendly staff. Then we headed to Sorrento. Hotel was wonderful! Capri boat ride, driver did not show up to give us a ride back to hotel at dock. We had to call and wait.
We enjoyed our trip because how on earth could you NOT enjoy Italy! But Travelive could have made it better with a different hotel choice in Tuscany. That part of our trip was disappointing. And the amount of time spent in the vehicle for the tours was a waste of half a day.

Dear Rebecca and Deron,

Thank you for your detailed and valuable feedback on your recent trip with us. We are pleased to hear that despite a few bumps along the road, you had an overall enjoyable experience. Your kind words about our team and the tour guides are greatly appreciated. We are also happy that you found the hotels in Rome and Sorrento to be wonderful and that the staff provided exceptional service.

Regarding the dinner reservation at Il Chianti, we sincerely apologize for the issue you encountered. We understand how disappointed it must have been to arrive for your anniversary dinner, only to find that the reservation was overlooked by the venue itself. As we later shared with you, our team had indeed called on April 4th to confirm this very important occasion. We do wish that we had known immediately that there was an issue so that our team could have spoken directly with the hostess and explain how special this dinner was for you.

We also acknowledge your concerns about La Collegiata and apologize that the accommodations and the amenities did not meet your expectations. La Collegiata is a certified 4* property in San Gimignano, which was proposed from the very beginning of the planning process and was kept in after several changes to accommodations in both Rome and Sorrento. We normally receive glowing feedback for this property and will address your concerns with the hotel management to ensure improvements are made.

Finally, for the logistics of your Small-Group Capri Boat Tour, the cruise ended earlier than anticipated and the local team decided that it would have been faster to reallocate another driver who had just finished their route than have you wait additional time for the scheduled one.

Thank you once again for sharing your experience with us, as guests’ feedback always provides an opportunity for growth and improvement. We are dedicated to creating memorable experiences and strive for seamless trips.

We hope to host you again in the future and wish you both the best always!

I will never use anyone else because I don't worry while my clients are traveling, ever. Pre, During and Post Covid, their customer service is second to no one. Their hands on full heart approach gives me all the confidence in the world that everything will exceed expectations for our clients. My husband and I used Travelive for our Greece Honeymoon

My husband and I used Travelive for our Greece honeymoon June 2019. After searching the internet a year ago for a travel agent company in Greece to help with our trip we had decided to use Travelive. From the moment I emailed for a quote I was immediately impressed at the fast response time. We started to work with Faye who helped us customize our itinerary. We picked the days and hotels and Faye did the rest!! Every question I had was emailed back to me right away! I was nervous about working with a travel agent in Greece while we are in the US but as time went on and my questions were responded to right away I felt at ease. We received our final paperwork a month before the trip and Faye & Stella took care of everything! They planned the most amazing itinerary for us and we were over the moon excited! Stella sent me a text message when we landed in Greece in case we needed assistance while we were there for easier response. Every time we had a question she answered right away!! I was so incredibly impressed at how much Faye & Stella cared at making sure we had the best time ever. which we did.. and it was a dream come true. Our Greece honeymoon was the trip of a lifetime and it would not be possible without the both of them!!! We are forever grateful for helping us create endless memories! I highly recommend travelive and we will be using them for any future trips!

Everything was organized down to the last detail. We had private transportation to and from every airport, ferry dock, hotel etc. We received welcome drinks at every hotel we checked into and the quality of hotel that we stayed in were impeccable! they were extremely responsive to emails and consistently followed up with us. Actually, when we arrived in Greece a member of the Travelive staff reached out to us to ensure that we had everything we needed. Thanks to Travelive, our trip was AMAZING!!!!

Travelive did an amazing job planning our trip to Italy.

For my sons graduation from West Point, my dad wanted to take all 3 of us on a trip to Italy. This was going to be a trip of a lifetime as we had 3 generations, all named Joseph Anthony (Sr., Jr. and III), going together. Joe Sr. booked the trip using Travelive. Booking a trip of this magnitude online with a company you've never done business with before is risky.

We just got back from our trip a little over a week ago and all I can say is, this trip couldn't have gone off any better. Everything was on time and exactly as planned. Everything from hotel reservations, to transfers and tours was planned by Travelive.

Every transfer, tour and reservation was on time and exactly as we were told. Our room accommodations were amazing, the transfers from Airport to hotel, hotel to train, train to hotel and hotel back to airport were all on time.

In Venice, we had someone meet us as soon as we got off the plane, then they took us to the dock to where our boat taxi was waiting for us and they took us right to the front door of our hotel.

Travelive did exactly what we used them to do. They planned, coordinated everything. We were never left guessing what was next. We had messages in our room waiting for us letting us know when and where we needed to be next.

My dad is a stickler for being on time and he would have worn us out had we had to wait at all. Never once did we have to wait on anyone. All tours and transfers were exactly on time.

I cannot say enough how great of a job this company did planning our memorable trip to Italy. I will be using Travelive for future travel needs from now on.

We want to book an exact trip but we would like to not miss our ferry next time. All our drivers were amazing and great people. All out Hotel especially the de.light hotel was our FAV OMGS just so perfect omgs. It was a trip of a lifetime and I would go back right now if we could. 20 Year Anniversary Celebration, best Honeymoon ever!

My husband and myself decided to finally have a honeymoon after 20 years of marriage. We decided on Greece as our dream spot. We didn't want a cruise as we wanted to be able to spend 2-3 days on each island and really experience it. As I was searching the web I came across the travelive website. It seemed exactly what we were looking for. I made contact and over the next 8 months communicated via email and telephone directly with Mina Agnos. She was incredible, working and re-working the itinerary until we finally were able to see and do exactly what we wanted over 21 days and in a very tight return schedule. We had to get back home on a particular day and that date could not move. Mina went over and above in all cases to ensure we were comfortable and looked after very well. She understood we had never traveled and put our minds at ease that this was going to be the trip of a lifetime.

She arranged for our pick up at the airport and transportation and pick up to each island and hotel. She also arranged a wonderful tour guide while we were in Athens. He was incredible and it was so nice to have the time to really see the city by ourselves as this was a private tour for the entire day. He took the time to explain in detail what we would be seeing and experiencing. We would then explore and return at our leisure all the while he waited for us. He took us to a very local restaurant and arranged a wonderful lunch for us as well. After several discussions Mina was able to understand my personality and decided that Jordan would be the perfect guide for us and she was right.

All in all it was a wonderful trip and I am certain this was due to Mina's attention to detail and ability to determine what we expected and ensuring she made it happen. We will return to Greece one day however our sights are now set on Italy/Tuscany hopefully in the near future. We will contact Mina for our next big adventure as Travelive also covers this region and I know that she will assist us once again with custom itinerary's with a personal touch!

Dear RLee,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I have not been able to locate a quotation in your name or the agent that you spoke with, but based on your comments, I can offer some feedback that may clarify your concerns.

Travelive is a dual based company with headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida and a sales office Athens, Greece. We are a US based company. We also operate in Greece. Both of these statements are correct.

Travelive offers completely custom travel plans. We do not have set itineraries, set packages or set pricing. Upon consultation or request (and considering availability), our agents put together a quotation. That quotation will vary in cost based on what is included. I expect that the quotes you received were not exactly the same. This is why they would have had a different cost.

We are not scammers. Travelive is a reputable company with a 16-year history. We have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. You can find me listed on Travel + Leisure Magazine’s list of the Top Travel Agents in the World for the past 6 years. You can also find us on Conde Nast Traveler’s list of the Top Travel Specialists. We are preferred providers for some of the most reputable travel agency consortia including Virtuoso, Signature Travel Network and Ensemble. In addition, you can find numerous client reviews, which you can see on our site, that even include photos.

My name is Mina Agnos. I am the president and co-founder of Travelive. While you note having asked to speak to the owner, I did not receive any communication from you via phone or email. All of my contact details are listed on the about us page on our website. I will be happy to discuss your experience with you and to clarify any misunderstandings that occurred. Your review is definitely not indicative of the service that we offer.

I hope to speak with you soon. Otherwise, wishing you happy travels, always.

Best, Mina

Went Above and Beyond Expectations

We just got back on March 30, 2016 and Travelive went beyond expectations to help me get my missing piece of luggage back. A delay on our first plane flight out of Denver caused us to miss our connecting flight to Cairo in Frankfurt. We were rerouted from Frankfurt to Athens to Cairo which meant instead of getting into Cairo around dinner time, we got into Cairo about 2:00am. We called in Frankfurt and told Travelive of our delay. They were able to ensure our transfer to the hotel was changed to meet us at the airport when we arrived. When one of the three pieces of luggage was missing, they help get my luggage back...albeit when I returned to Denver. The Cairo airport personnel only work certain hours on certain days which did not coincide with our vacation plans. Travelive worked thru the red tape to find and then reunite me with my luggage. On the trip, we had people meet us at every airport and transfer us to where we needed to go. Prior to our vacation, they worked with us to build an itinerary that we wanted both in Egypt and in Jordan. They also were able to find accommodations that would work for 3 people as our daughter came with us on the vacation. I would totally recommend Travelive to coordinate a trip again as it was great to have someone help us out when things did not go as planned.

Once we arrived to our destinations we had contact there for any problems or concerns we might have had. I highly recommend this company if you are looking for making your travel plans simple and fun, it was so easy and it is customized to our interests. We are THANKFUL that we found this company to arrange our honeymoon.

Thank you so much for organizing our trip. It was fabulous and definitely a honeymoon that will last a life time. Our favorite part was Sorrento and the hotel that you provided us was just breath taking. Besides the few miscommunication on our trip at Rome, everything else was excellent (my wife and I did not realize nor it was written on the voucher that we were supposed to take the last stop in Rome. We took the first stop in Rome and our driver was not there. We were mandated to pay extra cost for the driver to pick us up where we were although it was not our fault, that part was a little annoying but it was settled - Perhaps, the company might want to add that on the itinerary to make sure to take the last stop in Rome to make sure that the traveler are not confused).

Overall, it was an amazing experience and sure worth a lifetime. We will definitely be using this company again to plan our future trip in Europe!

Again, Thank you for everything and special BIG THANK YOU to our Travel Agent Nico Comunian. He was attentive, responsive, and made sure that all of our questions were answered and handled appropriately.

Fabulous Andalusia

We flew into Madrid from the US and immediately took the AVE train to Sevilla. We had some concern about travelling all those hours, but the train was so quick, easy & comfortable, it was fine. We spent 6 nights in Sevilla. We could have spent more. The town has so much to offer in way of sights, history, charm, welcoming people and great food. It is a great walking city. We did a day trip to Ronda and a day trip to Cordoba. We did these by car; easy day trips. We spent 3 nights in Granada, which had the same Moorish influence as Sevilla; narrow winding streets and the Alhambra but not quite the same charm. If you go to Granada, do an E-bike tour. Battery power-assisted bikes are a must for the hilly terrain. We did 20 miles effortlessly, in a few hours, we circled the city. Mid-May was a great time to be there, not overly hot. We do not speak Spanish. We got by without much trouble. We did have English speaking guides with us for some part of most days. I had traveled in the north of Spain on a previous trip, if it is your first or maybe only trip you will ever make to Spain, I recommend Andalusia. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would be happy to return.

Avoid at all costs - They have taken 3k and will not take phone calls.

This company needs to be avoided unless you want to get screwed out of your money. The difficulties in Greece may be the reason for this but they have totally ruined what was suppose to be a very special occasion for my girlfriend and I. Our 8 year old daughter has been excited for 7 months about her European adventure. They have taken $3167.00 and are refusing to get on calls ....have cancelled our rooms in Greece. We are suppose to departing Monday for the trip and Owner won't call us ......won't refund our money. Other managers apologized and said they can't discuss it .......These people are a total disgrace. Have not worked today .....have called and called and still nothing. Current hold time well over an hour and It's been the same all day......she refuses to get on phone. Hiring an attorney to seek advice but please don't involve yourself with these people as they are desperate people with zero ethics, zero morals and have absolutely no issue wrecking a family's special vacation.

Update - July 23rd - Finishing our vacation in Mykonos and we have paid for all of our hotels out of pocket! Owner still won't call us and still has our $3167.00. I have a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management and have travelled the world and this is without down the worst experience I have ever had in my life.

It is quite unfortunate that we did reach this point, however, we did not get here due to our own lack of morals or ethics.

We did not intentionally set out to destroy your special trip. You thought that a credit card dispute was a means to cancellation. Your dispute was not settled in your favor and the reversal happened to coincide with your departure.

Travelive has been in business for 15 years and has a stellar track record for offering luxury experiences and exceptional customer service. In our 15 year history this is the first time we have been accused of being unethical, immoral or disgraceful.

Your claims are grossly exaggerated and fail to take into account the role that you have played in booking your trip, actively failing to cancel it – despite our multiple attempts to contact you, harassing staff members with dozens of phones calls per day, and making numerous threatening comments to management via email, online and in voice messages. This includes your legal threats, which you have been advised are the reason that we will only communicate with you in writing, not on the phone.

You claimed that our charge was fraudulent. You claimed not to have booked with us. When both of these claims were disproved with your own written communication, you claimed that you cancelled and that we are hiding the cancellation letter.

All of these claims have been contradicted by the written communication between you and your agent at Travelive.

You booked your trip with Travelive on April 28th. You continued to communicate with your agent over the next 10 days. You requested room amendments, which we accommodated. We sent your updated itinerary on May 7th via email. You did not reply.

Your agent sent separate email messages on May 10th and May 13th specifically asking if you were proceeding with the trip. She also left at least two voice message. You did not reply.

We received no cancellation request or refund request from you.

On May 18th, we received a dispute from your credit card company. In the dispute you claimed that the charge was fraudulent and that you did not know who we are. When a dispute is placed, funds are removed from our account pending resolution.

As noted in emails to you directly, following your failure to reply to us and only after receiving your dispute, we released the hotels booked in your name. This does not mean that our company did not have to pay for services booked for you. Your total trip cost was $6334, not $3167, and it was comprised of more than just hotels.

On May 20th, we began communication with your credit card company in order to resolve the dispute. We were able to show that the charge was in fact authorized by you. We had also advised your bank that “had you contacted us to say you wanted to cancel, we would have refunded the card as per our terms and conditions.”

After our May 7th email to you, we did not hear from you till July 10th.

This was after the credit card dispute was settled in our favor and after funds were removed from your account. On July 10th, you called multiple (at least 10) times claiming that Travelive “stole your money” and that you “never booked anything with us.”

Again, we were able to show via your email communications that you did in fact book something with us.

You then claimed that you cancelled the trip and that we “hid” your cancellation letter so that we could keep your money.

Following a third review of the written communication between you and our company, there was no such letter found. There were emails from us to you asking you to confirm if you would still be traveling. You did not reply to those emails.

Our terms and conditions are very clearly stated. We require cancellation and refund requests in writing. Cancellation penalties are assessed based on the time the cancellation request is received prior to travel. The first time you requested a refund was three days prior to your anticipated trip start date. At that time the entire trip cost would be 100% non-refundable.

Every successful business has a process in place that acts as the framework for how the business is run. Our terms and conditions are guidelines that are in effect for every person that books with Travelive. Your actions have shown that you believe they do not apply to you.
