Emergency assistance line was (literally) a lifesaver

I've been using TID for 5+ years now and unfortunately had to make a few big claims in that time. Most recently I had to receive emergency surgery in Bulgaria - I contacted the 24hr line and they helped find a JCI compliant hospital, had their staff nurse call to check things out with me - my symptoms, the diagnosis, that I was comfortable with the hospital, doctors etc. They arranged payment with the hospital, and followed up post-op to check recovery was going okay. Having never needed this kind of service before I was genuinely surprised by how good it was. Can't thank the team enough.

And as a Kiwi that spends a lot of time living and working overseas it's also great to be able to take out a policy to cover me without having to be in New Zealand.

Disappointing Customer Service

I am quite disappointed how TID actually handles claims. My partner and I asked for compensation for an additional hotel night we've had due to a delay in our flight itinerary. TID granted us the amount we've claimed and converted it in the outcome letter from the local currency Tongan Pa'anga into Australian Dollars. However, in the actual payment TID took the same AUD amount and converted it from New Zealand Dollars into AUD. After contacting TID about this, they just changed the currency in the outcome letter from AUD into NZD, without taking into account that the exchange rate from TOP to NZD isn't the same as from TOP to AUD. After several messages TID finally transferred an additional random amount into our bank account. However, until today we haven't received the full amount.

It is quite embarrassing and a total waste of time for everyone to have to argue with the insurance company to get back the full amount that you are entitled to - just because the company wants to safe a few dollars. I'll definitely choose a different company next time.

Two claims so far, each simple and quick!

I have used this company twice so far while traveling. I chose them as they are one of the companies that offers cover when you are making a one-way trip back to NZ. On one of my policies, I had to make two claims on the one policy, each in different countries. Once when I lost my glasses - I was quite happy as I didn't have any proof (they fell into a squat toilet when I was in a developing country and there was no one who spoke English around who I could "report" it to) and another time when my luggage was delayed. Each time I emailed them with the proof and each time they reimbursed me in a timely manner with no problems whatsoever. Would definitely (and already have) use them again! Also great that they automatically cover snow sports, as this can be quite expensive to add on to other policies.

Utterly and totally terrible handling …

Utterly and totally terrible handling of my claim. Sent multiple emails informing you I did not have a copy of a report for the broken item, and you continued to request it. I broke my tablet at Disneyland and did not have any specific person who could complete a form. Seems unreasonable and a total lack of customer service.I also sent a receipt for the tablet with my name showing I bought it less than a month before I traveled. Despite this you have stated I have no proof of ownership. This claim took me five hours to submit. It has been frustrating and time consuming and I can only conclude your company is not interested in meeting your obligations. I am NEVER using your company again. It has also taken 4 months to get this final decision.
