My favorite part of the Trace DNA…
My favorite part of the Trace DNA Academy was the charts given to portray what was being taught. I thought they portrayed the subject being taught more clearly than I had seen before.

Final results were worth the fees.

satisfied but slowed by Covid
I appreciated the results of the project. It got off to a slow start because it was scheduled to begin April-June 2021, just as Covid was shutting down. As a result my report arrived later than I had expected. My basic question was answer but I was not completely clear from the narrative about relationship and details of a broken branch from my ancestor. Details specifically about Springers

This was exactly what I needed....
This was exactly what I needed to acquire a well-rounded overview of DNA and its various aspects. The parts which address actual research and processes as related to genealogy were right on target for me. Explaining a great deal, but not overwhelming! A good course, with excellent materials and handouts.

I recently took the Trace.com DNA Academy. It took me about two (2) full weeks to get through the modules, as I was taking extensive notes and trying to ensure I was understanding the concepts and using what I was learning with my own Family Tree Research and DNA results. I found the course to be engaging and packed with valuable educational material. I used the course hand in hand with my DNA results to almost test the handouts and what I was learning with real time data.
I had no issues using the materials provided and the text to put into action. I enjoyed the assessments, to better understand what I was learning and gauge what I needed to go back and review.
Overall, if you are new to DNA or a budding Professional Genealogist, this course is a great tool to have in your arsenal to understand DNA testing. It is not plug and play. There is science that needs to be grasped and the tips and tricks were many and welcomed. Great course. Great content. Great tool for my toolbox. I will be using, refreshing, reviewing often as I get my DNA specific Professional Genealogy business underway.

I had no problem with the wait, but after I shared what I had been able to find on my own, I knew I needed a researcher who could research IN THE AREA my family was from. After a lot of money, all I got back was "more research needs to be done in the location your family was in" Duh, that's what I asked for in the beginning! And then get a follow up email from Trace telling me there's" additional opportunities" for further research!! Of course there is, for more $$$$$$!!!! I have politely tried to communicate through that email and have been completely ghosted. That's what bothers me the most, being ignored after asking about their work procedures. I DO NOT recommend this company. If anyone from Trace happens upon this review, please feel free to reach out at my email or call, my info is on file!

Hi Andrew, Thank you for your review. I apologize that you are unhappy with the service at Trace. In genealogy research, it is not always guaranteed that objectives will be met. Sometimes records can not be found to conclusively confirm an objective. This is the nature of genealogical research. This is why when people pay for genealogy research they pay for the time and not a specific result. Our researchers spend their time doing their best to achieve your objective. They first look at all the areas that would most likely yield results. However, if they have exhausted the time paid for and have not yielded conclusive results they will often provide the next steps they would take in the research process. This is exactly what happened with your project. They provide these recommendations at the end of your 12-page report on what they came across and found so you are not left at a dead end. Many of our projects are successful and yield results but sometimes conclusive evidence can not be found and that is no fault of the researcher. When projects are completed as originally agreed upon we always offer continuations as an option.
I looked into your emails and it looks like you sent in your complaint back in January. After which Nicole reached out and gave you the contact info of our support line. Our support team has not seen anything from you since Nicole reached out. I will reach out and I hope we can resolve your concerns. You can also email us at support@trace.com.

They took way too much time And money to tell me they couldn’t find anything on my ancestor.
And the ‘person’ supposedly doing the research never came back to me do discuss with me or ask more questions.

I would like to warn people about this company. I don't believe they are reputable. They have not provided me with a researcher who has a brief that meets the criteria I gave in my original submission in December 2021. I have made several requests for a progress report with no response. I have asked for a refund but they seem to be ignoring that request as well.

After finishing the Trace DNA course, I feel prepared to dive in and start finding answers in my DNA results. The course was well-organized and very clear. I appreciated the hands-on activities that actually had me begin organizing my own DNA matches and identifying common ancestors. I also uploaded my DNA data to other platforms and explored their tools. I am excited that I will have lifetime access to this course, especially as new materials and resources are added. If you have taken a DNA test, and are looking through the results thinking, "Now what?" this course is for you!

They were extremely helpful in tracking down information about my birth father. I was adopted so I had very little information to give the team but they were able to trace back several generations on my birth father’s side.

At the beginning of this course...
...I had very limited knowledge of DNA and a good amount of genealogical knowledge. With the practical assignments and easy-to-understand explanations, I have left the course more fully prepared to move forward with finding relatives through DNA testing hoping to find matches and break through some brick walls.

I had a difficult brick wall in my paternal lines!
I had a difficult brick wall in my paternal family lines. As an experienced genealogy researcher, I needed the Trace research company to move my genealogy beyond my brick wall. After a long research period, Trace delivered the most professional set of research papers, documents, photographs, and also included a GEDCOM file of my new ancestors. Trace kept me informed at each research milestone which I appreciated and this kept me informed about the progress of their work.
If you want serious research by professionals, use Trace. You will be glad that you did.

Comprehensive and Fascinating
An in-depth look at DNA and its use in genetic genealogy. Perhaps a bit challenging at first if you're new to this (as I was). Once you're comfortable with the basics, you'll find the rest compelling as you learn more and more. Well-written, with a good look at the historical aspects of each topic.
