I recently bought a Toyota Yaris excel…

I recently bought a Toyota Yaris excel from the Newport Branch. I already had a Yaris from here in December, but have been very unhappy with it. So I decided to have a chat about swapping or upgrading to a newer version. The salesman Dan Whittaker who dealt with me was absolutely fantastic. He got me an excellent deal, also I think the gentleman's name was either Rav or Rab who organised the financial deal, got my payments as low as possible (but a bit more than I was previously paying) which I didn't mind at all. I am now one very happy man. The new car is so lovely to drive and has a lot more new features than I previously had on my old car. Plus I now own a younger car 73 plate. I would definitely go back in the future to get my next car. I would have given ten stars but it only goes to 5 stars.

Nightmare to contact

This review does NOT reflect my customer service from West Super Mare which has been a 5 star service. This is the finance department, which is diabolical, my advice Do NOT take finance with this Company. After signing up through a downloaded porthole it kept stating my details did not match their records? I pressed forgot password it stated your reference and DOB are invalid. I tried to correspond through email so many times giving more details they take 2 days to respond then state my email is not on their records? If you telephone and automated recording throws you out as your Reference number is not Authenticated? It is impossible to sign in, I spent all day trying to get through. Eventually after spending all day on the telephone I managed to speak to someone, they stated all my sign in details, email, reference number, date of Birth were recorded. I had no choice but to pay the whole finance off but so glad I did.

refund delay

We left a deposit to reserve a car at Toyota Bootle. £250 no small change on 1st April 2026.
We collected the car on Saturday 4th April and told due to Easter weekend refund would be done on Tuesday 7th April.
Called dealership 14th 15th 16th April spoke ro various people who said would call back . No one did so called late pm 16th and spoke to financial manager who said had processed refund on Tuesday 16th April one week after it was supposed to have been done.
We are now 20th April still no refund. Very poor service. Quick to take the money but not so quick to refund.

Below standard experience

Toyota is a great brand, no doubt. However, my experience with the Coventry dealership in the UK has been extremely disappointing.

The management and communication between staff are clearly below standard. I have been waiting almost a month for a refund of my car finance deposit after my application was declined, and since then, my case no longer seems to be a priority.
Before I paid the deposit, communication was consistent with regular calls and emails. After payment, everything changed. I now have to chase them almost daily, and I’m repeatedly told I will receive a callback or email, yet nothing!
This level of customer service is unacceptable. I would not recommend this dealership based on my experience.

No product knowledge either at dealers

No product knowledge either at dealers, nor main customer service regarding their re-badged PSA vans. Will be sold a promise of extended warranty, but hardly any dealers can service them. We were told our nearest service centre was Bristol, when we are in Leicestershire!

Conflicting Recall Information

I received a Toyota recall letter dated 7 April 2026 for a Combination Meter ECU reprogramming. When I called the Sheffield dealer, I was told the update had already been done — even though my car has never been in for this work. Toyota’s helpline then told me the job was outstanding, but redirected me back to the same dealer, who claimed it was completed on 22 January 2025. No one could explain the contradiction, why I received a recall letter a year later, or whether my car is actually safe. The responses were dismissive, unhelpful, and completely inconsistent. After years of trusting Toyota, this experience has seriously damaged my confidence in both their service and their safety standards.

Toyota Edinburgh Used cars Avoid

There is no advantage to buying a used car from this dealer.
I would have paid a lot less had I bought privately and the risk would have been the same. The brakes failed after a year of moderate use.
The service manager at Toyota Western was rude and dismissive when we met in person. He even said that MOT failure is based on opinion and that the mechanic I have used for many, many years was trying to make money out of me; he did not have the same courage when he finally wrote to me and avoided that subject.

Interestingly, he was noticeably polite on the phone because Toyota records the calls. I still had to chase him a few times to get the dismissive answer -so I paid for new brakes.
The rest of the car is good, I know that from the MOT, but it is clear to me now that I could have paid thousands less on the private market and had the same level of "reassurance". Save yourself a lot of money and avoid these people.

One of the worst experience i have ever…

One of the worst experience i have ever had. I ordered brand new factory order car( Toyota chr Design with pan-roof) waited nearly 2 month. Requested to swap for early delivery but it was denied. I was asked to pay £500 more to swap and i asked to cancell the order and refund they simply refused said £500 deposit is non refundable. I keep the order after 1 week i was offered an swap from silver to gray. They said this time they can swap my order to gray if i compromise on my original colour silver but they never mention it will be without pan-roof. When they said swap from silver to gray just an colour change rest will be same them ok.

They swap my car , waited for handover date was sheduled so i planned sale of my current car and eventually sold it. Later they said the car has been delayed by 5 working days (1 week). I was ok just 1 week without car i will manager but when next week come car was again delayed by 1 more week. I had even told & confirm dealership even before i sell my car that i am planning to sell my car and arranging new insurance quotes. I asked for help loan car or courtesy car because i sold my car to line up smooth handover & car got delayed 2 weeks already and i am out of car. They eventually got my new car after 2 weeks .

I was so excited to drive new car that i waited 2 month but i find out that they had completely changed my car they just mention colour change but they never mention that it will be completely without pan-roof. If i know they swapping my car to without pan-roof in would never agree to swap. I refused to accept the car as its not what i ordered.
No sorry nothing for messed up. They simply ask do you want this car or not i said no i ordered pan-roof but its without. I had few minute discussion. They never ask for solution they just said we can get you pan-roof but you will have to wait untill April. i was shocked what??? 2 month thats the solution.

After few minute i asked one of manager if you compensate me i will take the car. They said ok let me check. Came with offer £200 off the service plan i was serious just £200 for messed up and accepting which i didn't ordered. Then i said ok then do it last £300 i will take the car. They simply refused and said take it or leave it. 😡😡😡 I had to spend around £200 just on uber to be there and back fir their mistake.

Same day evening when i went home and start to check alternative optons. i find out thet they had showroom demo 25 plate same car but in white out for sale. I was what?? they had option why they didn't offer solution. Any way i made enqury again out that replacement car. I explain them i have to encounter huge financial loss and would take 25 plate car if they do fair reduction to the car. Their offer was again£200 off the car 😳😡😡. Serous you selling £36k and 27k car and £200 off for goodwill.

I file and official complain to General manager and area manager but the response was straight forward we had offered you the best deal if you not happy with us you cam simply choose another dealership. I said i will reach toyota gb & so on. His respinse was simple do whatever you want .
what the hell this is how you treat your costomer. what a shame Toyota hill of woodford.

Airbags did not deploy in a serious crash

I was involved in a serious accident where my car crashed into the back of a large truck. The impact was very severe and the insurance company declared the car a total loss.

In a crash like this, the airbags are supposed to deploy. All of them. But in my case, not a single airbag deployed. Not one.

At the moment of the crash, I genuinely thought something very bad was going to happen. Looking back now, it still feels quite scary. If the accident had been just a bit worse, I honestly don’t know what the outcome would have been.

Before this, my family always trusted Toyota. We believed the cars were reliable, fuel efficient, and safe. This accident completely changed my view. I was lucky and didn’t suffer serious injuries, but after the crash the hood popped up and smashed into my windshield, and the airbags still did not deploy at all. That is very frightening for a car that is supposed to be known for safety.

After this accident, I didn’t drive for almost a year because the whole experience made me afraid to drive again. I never expected that after a major accident, the safety system I trusted the most would not work at all.

After this experience, I don’t think I will ever buy a Toyota again.

Toyota

Toyota, what are you doing?

On Wed 11th March 2026 I took my car to the annual car services, and the MOT, which I always do with Toyota.

Every year for 7 years it had been the same, i take the car in the morning, drop it at 8am, and by 4pm it is all ready and i collect it. Been like this since i imported it, from Dubai where I bought it as new.

Previous Toyota mechanics always praised how my car was so new, even with so many kms (yes km, as it is imported), asking me if I wanted to sell. High mileage because I drove a lot in UAE living in Abu Dhabi and working in Dubai, but also visiting clients in Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Ajman, Au Dhabi and Dubai. But just motorway mileage.

Same day wednesday 11th March afternoon they called me to say MOT failed, this nasty man, Mr Peter Walpole, from Toyota Currie Kingston services, a very dry, authoritative, know-it-all person who thoroughly enjoyed to break the bad news to me, saying 'Your car failed the MOT in two areas: Your car is imported! The headlights are "LHD imported spec" and need replacing, and the plate'... Dah yes it is imported! I imported it! And the rear reg plate became worn out...

The story is, when I imported, I sent to a garage to turn into British spec, and they installed light deflector-stickers. In the gov.uk on MOT headlights, quoting "It’s acceptable for masks or converter kits to be fitted to right hand dip headlamps to temporarily alter the lamp for use in the UK by removing the beam ‘kick-up’ to the right." For 7 years I'd been driving it, and stickers passed all previous MOT, at Toyota!!

This year Peter Walpole (what are you doing in services, such a bad customer services person!) advised that "law had changed and stickers no longer accepted, you need to replace the headlights". And quoted me £1,398 for the pair, plus manhours to fit them. Liar, sticker are accepted!

I was ultraged, but initially hadn't check gov.uk, and as I always trusted Toyota, had a think, and after a while, decided to accept the hit, and have them replaced.

When the official quotation email came, the headlights would arrive 8th April ("it is imported, as said Peter Walpole")!

Now note: My MOT expires on 19th March! What help does it give me!

So I called, and reverted my decision, as that timeframe would not work for me.

I called twice to cancel the headlights order and fitting, spoke first with a receptionist, and she said she'd pass the message to Peter Walpole. And then called again in the evening around 1730 to confirm message was delivered, but no answer. Then in the morning, when I called repeatedly, to the end then try again, the third was finally answered, by Peter Walpole, and i mentioned I called day before, had he got the message I left for him? He said he never received any message. And i confirmed my decision to cancel both headlight order and services. It was just verbally, but I am sure the calls are always recorded. I said I'd collect the car Friday. Peter Walpole said he'd call me when the car would be ready to collect, most likely same day Friday. He of course never called.

Instead I received a text message, and an email, to check in my car in bodyshop!

That is when I realised that he never cancelled my headlight order, and was going to put my car in the workshop to wait for the delivery by 8th April!

I replied in writing, to the quotation email, declining and stating that I initially accepted as I was unaware of the due date 8th April after MOT expiry date.

In the morning on Sat as Toyota opened, I was there to collect my car, which luckily they released after 1/2h of waiting.

Very disapponting how a renouned business such as Toyota, can have these liars working for them. Untrustworthy people, I saw the other reviews, people who are interested in creating problems in your car, so they can then charge you to fix them. It's not Toyota, I know, but these disonest professionals, people like Peter Walpole, should never be able to remain in business, let alone in customer services, and it is important to report them.

Extremely Disappointing and Concerning Experience

Very disappointing and concerning experience with Snows Toyota Waterlooville.

I was charged for a service during my second year despite already being covered by a prepaid service plan — only refunded after I questioned it. This raises serious concerns about how many customers are overcharged without realising.

I was later quoted £1,392 for a minor wiring issue (second opinion: under £300), and still charged £180 just for inspection.

During my MOT, I authorised one tyre replacement, yet two were listed on the invoice, and the “new” tyre fitted appeared to be used.

An independent mechanic confirmed that several recommended repairs were unnecessary.

I strongly advise others to double-check all invoices, recommendations, and service plans before agreeing to any work.

After a long legal battle I’m finally free of Toyota

I bought a brand new white Yaris on finance in July 2024.

The very first issue I had with Toyota was the fact that the first month they charged me for both my old & new car. When I noticed and call them they said “we’ve noticed this and told the finance company”. Yet the idiots didn’t think to inform me. It took them over 2 weeks to return my money and no, no one thought to discuss this with me. What a terrible customer service. Did they think I wouldn’t notice? It only got worse from there.

Within a few weeks the issues began and they NEVER stopped.

The apple CarPlay wouldn’t connect or break the connection randomly, same for android auto.

The reverse camera broke & had to be replaced (so soon after the purchase of a BRAND new car), even then the broken icon would appear sometimes.

The whole radio unit had to be replaced (within less than 5 months of buying this BRAND NEW car). Either there would be no sound or it’ll get stuck on 1 service station. Sometimes the whole system would freeze and I wasn’t able to do anything.

The map system wouldn’t work properly and the map would lag about 30 seconds behind on the car while my phone was perfectly on time.

The traction control turned itself off while driving and kept showing me warning sign. Keri, the service manager, told me it’s not a big deal, I had to push for him to take the car in to make sure it’s ok. Because apparently if it’s unsafe it wouldn’t go over 30 mph. Definitely something I’d like to try on a motorway. Literally a recipe for a disaster.

Bluetooth would turn off so I wasn’t able to connect my car.

How many times have I visited Toyota and wasted my time over and over and over again making a 16 mile round trip while having a full time job for them to “fix it”.

“We just got a new update maybe it’ll work” was said to me TOO many time. Even if it worked, which I DIDN’T do you seriously sell cars SO bad that customers have to come for monthly updates?

They had no idea what to do with the car so they kept trying this updates. Which I’m not even convinced they did.

This went on and on and on. And it didn’t matter how many times they looked at it, tried it, updated it. It didn’t matter that they kept my car for a WHOLE WEEK, it didn’t matter that I had a new update a day before because the next morning I was back to square one. They couldn’t fix the car, there is an issue with it they themselves don’t understand and nothing they do or try fixed is.

I spent ages arguing with Toyota, calling them (and they NEVER answer)*, recording videos (when I was able to) of the same NEVER ending issues. I shared those videos with Keri and Tara but NOTHING ever changed.

*it got to the point that when I called from my phone it rings and NO ONE ever answers, but when I called from my wife’s phone I’ll get the “welcome to toyota” and different options. This was the only way I was able to sometimes get through to them. Even then they didn’t bother.

They constantly went with “we couldn’t replicate the issues” which wasn’t true they did some times. Also they had at least 50 videos of the issues

Before a year of this never ending issues, I told them I want partial refund bc the car is not preforming as it should. I contacted the finance, I waited, wrote letters and eventually they offered me £100 as “a gesture of good will” because I was never left immobile.

Not only was this a complete joke because they very much advertise the car with all its features (Apple CarPlay) but also if a (eg) a boot door broke I would still be able to drive the damn car but it wouldn’t be acceptable. They’re are many ways in which the car can have faults but I still wouldn’t be left immobile.

So I went to citizen advice and followed their steps writing an official letter etc. and that’s when they replied offering me £25. Yep couldn’t even stick to their original offer and said that after 30 days I’m responsible to fix it myself. Except it had 5 year warranty.

So off to the financial ombudsman service it went and of course I won. “Toyota has not acted fairly” the investigator wrote in his decision to them and “issues don’t don’t on command”

So now not only do they have to take this car back, pay me distress, return my deposit, pay me some money back for my monthly payments and pay interest on all the money I paid.

I’ve never dealt with more incompetent, incapable and dishonest people. I am so glad that my journey with Toyota is over and really look forward to NEVER dealing with them again.

Toyota, you lost a long term customer, your staff, cars, services are an absolute joke and it shows based on how BAD your reviews are.

Shocking lack of service and accountability. A carefully orchestrated scam for a £210 tyre, ending in malicious vehicle damage.

I am utterly appalled by the deceptive and vindictive behaviour of Listers Toyota Coventry, specifically Service Manager Ryan Lee. My experience proves they are willing to use high-pressure scare tactics and even sabotage a customer’s vehicle to force an unnecessary sale.

The Setup:
On March 4th, I took my 2023 C-HR in for an MOT. After driving just 2 miles home (a journey of less than 10 minutes with no unusual noises), the TPMS warning light came on the next day. I found a pristine, un-worn screw in the tyre. After I emailed to complain, Ryan Lee replied, stating that because the car had left their premises, they accepted zero responsibility.
Common sense dictates that a slow puncture from a nail takes time to drop the PSI enough to trigger the warning light—hence it illuminated the next day. The light being off when I drove away does not mean the screw wasn’t already there. This raises two major questions: If the nail was there before the MOT, how did the car pass? If it happened after, how can he be 100% certain I picked it up on a smooth 2-mile drive home? Are customers expected to bring a jack and a professional mechanic to inspect their vehicle upon collection?
After I escalated the complaint to Head Office, Ryan Lee called me and offered to ‘attempt’ a puncture repair. However, he suspiciously laid the groundwork for a sale by stating: ‘We can’t guarantee it can be fixed, and if not, you’ll have to pay for a new tyre.’
The £210 Scare Tactic:
On March 10th, I returned for the repair. Ryan Lee handed me the extracted screw, claiming his massive workshop doesn’t use this type of screw (which is frankly unbelievable). He then told me the tyre was ‘actively leaking’ and unrepairable, demanding I pay £210 for a new one.
He used high-pressure scare tactics, claiming my car was ‘dangerous to drive’. While I hesitated, he added further pressure, saying the mechanic was about to finish his shift and I needed to make a decision immediately. I refused and said I would seek a second opinion.
Less than two minutes after driving away, the TPMS light turned itself off. I strongly suspect their technician made a rookie error (failing to warm up the tyre or reset the system) and the light was never on for a valid reason that day. I went home intending to check the pressure myself with my inflator, only to discover the valve cap had been completely sealed shut.
Malicious Damage:
In retaliation for me refusing the £210 quote, they deliberately over-tightened and seized the metal TPMS valve cap on that exact tyre. They intentionally locked me out of my own tyre, making it impossible to check the pressure or inflate it.
Because of their sabotage, I felt incredibly anxious and unsafe. From March 4th to 14th, I drove only 18 miles and was forced to pay for Ubers because I dared not drive the car.
The Proof of Their Lie:
From the moment I left their forecourt on March 10th until today (March 14th), the TPMS light has NEVER come on. The tyre is not leaking at all. Their ‘dangerous bubbling leak’ diagnosis was a complete fabrication. A genuine severe leak would trigger the light well within 72 hours.
Furthermore, today I took the car to an honest, local independent garage (Herald Way Tyres). They confirmed the valve cap had been severely crushed on. They safely forced it open, replaced the caps for free, and confirmed my tyre is perfectly fine. I cannot praise this independent garage enough.
Listers Coventry tried to scam me, failed, and maliciously damaged my valve cap out of spite. When I issued a final complaint about this, Ryan Lee had the audacity to blame the fact that I used metal valve caps, claiming they ‘seize naturally’. He offered to try and open it but stated he would ‘not be responsible if the sensor snaps and I would have to pay to replace it’. Another trap? He constantly deflects all responsibility.
To my absolute shock, Toyota GB Head Office replied stating they had investigated and the dealership had acted ‘in line with company standards’, blindly supporting them. Do not trust this dealership. They will create problems to sell you solutions.
My car is still under warranty, and I have a replacement side mirror on order with them. However, I am now too terrified to let them touch my car again, rendering my warranty practically useless. I cannot guarantee what ‘new problem’ will magically appear next time, knowing this company will wipe their hands of any responsibility.
I am not an unreasonable customer. Had I driven for half a day or 20 miles after the MOT, I would have accepted the puncture without complaint. But less than 2 miles? And to have the dealership wash their hands of it completely is utterly unacceptable.

Warranty not covering

I’m honestly extremely disappointed with Toyota.

I paid a lot of money for this car, expecting reliability and peace of mind. One of the main reasons I chose Toyota was their big selling point — the 10-year warranty. Otherwise, what’s the point of paying for a new car?

Recently my steering wheel started making a very loud noise, so I took the car to the dealership. Initially they confirmed there was an issue and said the steering system would need to be replaced. But then I was told the warranty wouldn’t approve the repair.

So let me get this straight — the dealership acknowledges there’s a problem with the steering system, but the warranty that supposedly protects customers won’t cover it? Why advertise a 10-year warranty if it doesn’t actually cover important faults?

On top of that, it took multiple phone calls and chasing just to even get to this point. The whole process has been frustrating and exhausting.

And here’s the kicker: if I wanted to sell the car back to them, they’d obviously offer less money because the car has an issue… yet the warranty refuses to fix that same issue. How does that make any sense?

Very poor service and a really disappointing experience overall.
If you’re considering Toyota because of the warranty, think twice.

Absolute shower of uselessness

Absolute shower of uselessness. I am on my 13th Toyota, and to say my CHR is the worst I have ever had is the understatement of the century. I have had it back several times to the dealer for numerous reasons but as the faults are random they can’t fix them. I can’t eat for the 3 years to be up so I can get rid of this horrific car. Can you tell it is driving me to distraction, literally.
