Box is full of fake white label brands and false ingredients.

Got a full box and it's all own brand stuff pretending to be prestigious. Fair enough, maybe it's just weird drop shipping fluff. But then you find out the box is full of false claims. Case in point 'hair by Henry' is a 'premium hair care' product that is 'carefully crafted with olive oil to condition your hair' but in fact the list of ingredients is cheap £1-2 with no olive oil, a lie. It also says it's strengthening but not a single ingredient does this. In fact some of the ingredients do the opposite.

To give this merit, the main cleaning agent is Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate, a harsh detergent found in budget brands, and it uses common table salt (Sodium Chloride) as a thickener.

Entire cost of a bottle is similar to the absolute cheapest £1-2 shampoo you can find online.

The entire box is full of random, unsearchable products and worryingly, nearly all have fake claims.

Simply put, TOPPBOX isn't sending premium discoveries like these 'edits' you see; theyre shipping cheap products and pretending it's luxury, and lying about premium ingredients. Didn't even know it was legal to do that!

TOPPBOX is designed as a discovery service. Each box contains a curated selection of grooming products intended to help customers try different product types over time, rather than receiving a single brand or category in one delivery. While this can sometimes feel unexpected, every product included is intentionally selected to contribute to a complete grooming routine across multiple months.

Regarding Hair by Henry Strengthening Shampoo, I’d like to clarify a couple of points to ensure the information is accurate:

The product does not claim to contain olive oil. The label states that it is crafted with clove oil, and this is represented by Eugenol, a naturally occurring component of clove oil. Clove oil is widely known for it's hair strengthening properties by nourishing hair roots with proteins and antioxidants whilst also protecting against oxidative stress, improving overall hair strength.

Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES) is a cosmetically approved and widely used cleansing agent, found across many mainstream and salon-grade shampoos. It is included for effective cleansing and foaming.

To give some background on TOPPBOX: we launched in 2015 and originally worked exclusively with third-party grooming brands. During and after COVID, many partner brands ceased trading or faced long-term supply issues. Rather than closing the service, we consulted our subscriber base and, based on strong member support, introduced in-house product lines developed specifically for our boxes. These products continue to be refined based on customer feedback, alongside ongoing partnerships with external brands where possible.

That said, we completely understand that discovery services aren’t for everyone. If you’re unhappy with your box, we’d be more than happy to arrange a full refund. Please email our support team and we’ll take care of it for you.

The advertising is misleading and the pricing is disingenuous

Strictly speaking, Toppbox isn't "curating" grooming brands—they are simply offloading their own private-label inventory.
​The marketing promises over £100 worth of products from established grooming brands tailored to your skin. In reality, you receive a box full of items from "ToppBrandsLTD"—a brand that seems to exist nowhere else on the internet and has no retail presence outside of their own ecosystem.
​The quality of the products is what you’d expect from a budget drugstore: cheap plastic bottles and uninspiring formulas. e.g. The label on the "Body Grub" bottle is poorly applied, with air bubbles trapped right in the middle, making it look messy. Furthermore, the back of the "Shave Therapy" box has a dark, sticky residue where a label seems to have been peeled off.
Because these are their own in-house products, the "retail price" they include on the enclosed slip is completely arbitrary. They could claim a bottle of water is worth £50, and it would be just as believable as their current pricing. It's a complete farce.

​To top it off, the presentation is abysmal. My bottles arrived loose in a cardboard box inside a paper mailer, with the box predictably crushed. Despite being prompted to write a gift message during checkout, it was nowhere to be found. Why bother asking?
​This isn't a premium grooming service; it's a clever way to sell overpriced, generic products under the guise of a "curated box." I feel insulted as a customer and wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Update:
I appreciate the refund offer, but I must correct a few points:
Gift Message: You claimed the email process is "thoroughly mentioned" in your FAQ. This is simply not true. I checked again, and it only mentions ticking a checkbox—there is zero mention of emails.
Marketing: Your homepage explicitly promises products "5 full size premium grooming products from top brands." Sending only in-house items under this slogan is misleading, regardless of your Covid-19 explanation.
Quality: You completely ignored my feedback regarding the poor manufacturing quality (bubbled labels, sticky residue).

Please do not blame customers for missing "FAQ details" that simply do not exist.

Just to give you some background on our service, we launched in 2015 and we indeed were working with various brands to feature their products inside our grooming boxes. When Covid happened in 2020, many of the brands we worked with either closed doors or were no longer able to produce products due to issues in supply chain.

Due to this issue, we reached out to our existing subscribers with various options, to either close our service as our existing business model was no longer viable due to the economic climate, or pivot our approach by introducing in-house brands. Thousands of our members responded to continue with our service and introduce our brands as they loved our service, and such members were also involved during the development phase of each of our product lines. Since then, we had introduced various brands and products that have been loved by our members. We also still partner with external brands on featuring their products inside our boxes, however this is based on what brand/product has been scheduled for a feature during that particular month.

With regards to the delivery of your box, really sorry to hear that it did not arrive in a satisfactory condition. We do pack our boxes as well as possible, however when we hand it over to our delivery partners we expect them to handle our parcels with care, although this is out of our control. We can only apologise that your parcel arrived damaged.

We normally send out replacement parcels the very next day, so please do reach out to us and we can arrange a replacement parcel or a full refund if you like.

With regards to the gift message, this is sent to the gift recipient via email. This is thoroughly mentioned in our FAQ section explaining how the gifting message process works.

I’ve tried a few grooming…

I’ve tried a few grooming subscriptions, but TOPPBOX stands out for its personalisation and quality. The products are fantastic and the variety ensures I’m always trying something new. The skincare and haircare products have been particularly great. Customer service is also great, always responsive! Shout-out to Ariana who has been very helpful. Toppbox is now a key part of my grooming routine, and I highly recommend it to others!

Topp Brands Ltd products - not skincare brands.

So overall I’m impressed, however it’s not quite what I thought it was. I believed that this service introduced you to new brands and new products. But every item in the box has been branded with a brand that will only ever be sold by Toppbox. There are no websites on the packages and all have a postcode and “topp brands Ltd” on the back. So this is a bit like Beauty Pie, made or commissioned by them. So of course the prices will add up to around £100 of value, but they set the price.

Having said that (and the reason for the positive review) the products seem to be good, they’re well packaged, look good, feel nice, smell great. It’s not insanely expensive. It’s an affordable novelty in a competitive skincare market.

I’ll be curious to see if there are any actual name brands in future boxes.

I have mixed feelings about TOPPBOX

I have mixed feelings about TOPPBOX, as my experience has varied. The subscription service is well thought out, with convenient sign-up and tailored products that suit individual preferences, like the impressive beard oil and moisturiser I received initially. However, I've encountered some issues with packaging and repeat products, and while customer service did address my concerns, there were hiccups, such as delayed refunds and stock management problems. Overall, TOPPBOX has potential but needs some improvement in handling certain matters. Would cautiously recommend for those interested in trying something new.

5 out of 7 products out of date

I had high hopes for a new subscription service for male personal care products and signed up for my first bimonthly box.
On receipt quite excited to see what products I was sent, I was impressed with having 7 full size products however on closer inspection 5 out of 7 products all out of date and not by a day or two but as much as 2 years past their date. 2 products didn't have a expiration date the only product in date was a single use face mask.
First impression of this subscription service is certainly far from the minimum standard you would expect.
When I contacted customer support I was told this was due to human error personally I would say this was shockingly poor stock management from the company, 1 product out of date I would accept as human error not 5 out of 7. I was advised to dispose of the box and I would receive a new box, lets see what I receive in the replacement box.

Many thanks for leaving a review. I am sorry to hear that your first box contained products that were past their use by date.

Having discussed this with our team, I have been notified that a replacement box was dispatched to you immediately on the 29th of May and delivered to you on the 30th of May. This replacement box contained a completely fresh selection of products from this month's product/brand features.

As my colleague mentioned, your first box was picked due to a human error. I would like to take this opportunity to add more information on how an outdated box was sent out. Each month we have specific products and brands scheduled for a feature. This means that we curate around 10-14 variations of a particular box, and depending on your grooming profile, you would receive one of the variations. What had happened is that the contents of your first box were part of an older box curation which was returned back to us by Royal Mail as it was not delivered successfully to the recipient. This box was placed among our returned stock. This pre-curated box was made for a customer that had exactly the same grooming profile as yourself. This box was then placed among the stock of boxes for this month due to a human error, which was then picked and sent over to yourself given a match in the grooming profile.

I hope the above has clarified things.

Poor customer service

First order great selection

Repeated items within subsequent orders - emailed about this and was asked to provide pictures of items and advised they had a strict quantity control process . They apologised when provided with pictures .

Last order Poor packaging - leaked everywhere . Cancelled order January They authorised refund but never received

Billed again March - refunded for both when chased up.

Disappointing

I've had a chance to take a deep dive into this and I have noted that you reached out to us on the 7th of April with regards to receiving repeat items. We responded immediately on the 7th to help resolve your issue. We requested some images however we did not get a response. We also asked for a confirmation that you have not used any of the products, that way we could have arranged for your box to be returned back to us and a full refund to be issued, however we did not get a response from yourself on this either.

I can see that our team made a note to Cancel your subscription on that very same day, however the cancellation did not go through due to a human error and I can only apologise for this.

Upon you reaching out to us most recently, on the 4th of April. We immediately cancelled your subscription and issued a full refund for your April box. We also issued a full refund for your February box despite not getting the box returned to us.

I hope this clarifies the situation a little and if you do have any other queries please do let us know as we're always happy to help - TOPPBOX Team

Need to sort their packaging and issue resolution

Nice idea and first box was ok.

Second one came and leaked everywhere. Only refunded 10% when contacted about it with pics.

Honestly wouldn’t risk it until they sort out their packaging or at least deal with issues appropriately.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the contents of your first box, and apologies for the leakage of a product inside your second box. We do try to pack the products as well as possible, however sometimes these things can happen during transit.

Upon investigating further, our team was in correspondence with yourself and you had received a sampler face wash within your box which had a slight leak. It appeared that the contents of the face wash remained very much full. Nevertheless, we normally send out a fresh new replacement, however we had completely sold out this month so we did not have a replacement sampler face wash to send you. As such we issued a 10% refund on your box as a gesture of goodwill to cover the faulty sampler, as this was the only remaining option we had given that a replacement product was not available.

If you wanted a full refund instead, we'd have been more than happy to do that instead, however we did not hear back from you. We can still offer you a full refund if you'd like, we'll just need you to confirm that you have not used any of the products inside your box and then also return the box back to us, and don't worry we'll cover the return postage costs. We'll then issue a you a full refund.
