Last year I tried to use Toomey for a flat I was buying, filled out the forms, and told them I was using overseas funds. It did state in the small print they didn't accept them, which i missed, and in that sense mea culpa, but after several exchanges of encouraging emails and visits to their office, it took Toomey nearly a month to decide not to continue with my attempted purchase. That included discussion of my funds which i thought meant they would consider them for use.
Luckily I found a firm of solicitors nearby who had absolutely no problem with my funds or their source after a couple of straightforward checks, within days, and I was able to successfully complete the purchase.
Thankfully I had a very understanding and supportive seller, otherwise the delay (in my opinion too long) could easily have cost me the purchase.
So the delay is the reason i feel i can only award this firm one star. Nothing personal to a firm with some very decent people, but things didn't work out.
If you are using overseas funds, I'd say go elsewhere from the outset or ask if they have since changed their rules.

Throughout the entire process of us buying our first home Toomey Legal could not be less helpful. From not answering the phone or emails to the receptionist Dawn being really quite rude and hostile towards us. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking to buy their first home, needing a solicitor. For example, 24 hours before our completion date we were sent an email from Sue asking for an additional £500 which had not been previously discussed. There was also a lot of discrepancies when reviewing the final contract which furthermore delayed the process. My advice to anyone looking to use this service would be to avoid.

Brilliant staff !, I was very anxious about the whole procedure and their patience and their humour :-) -was above and beyond ! They explained everything in 'idiot proof' terms and dealt with various complications (caused by complications on my side ) The whole thing was painless from beginning to end- I whole heartedly recommend the entire team !
