If you’re optimising images for Shopify etc, this is the gold standard

We’ve been using TinyPNG (Ultra plan) to optimise a very large number of images—around 50,000—and honestly, it’s been a really good experience.

First thing to say, the support has been excellent, especially DIANA M. Replies come back quickly (usually within a few hours, always within 24), and everything is explained in a way that actually makes sense. That’s rare in this space.

In terms of performance, we’re seeing roughly 90–97% reduction in file size, with very little loss in quality. This was a big concern for us because we work with detailed textile designs, and the originals can be quite heavy (5MB to 20MB+). But on screen and on mobile, everything looks great.

We’re running batches of about 200–300 images at a time, and it’s been smooth. Depending on the file sizes, it usually takes between 30-40 mins max. The system itself is simple to use, no complications.

One thing we really like is that all files come back organised properly—same file names, same folder structure, just in a new optimised folder. That makes life much easier when you’re dealing with this volume.

There is a very small point worth mentioning: with some watercolour-style designs, you might notice a tiny bit of softness. But from a professional point of view, it’s minimal and absolutely acceptable.

Important note if you’re using Shopify

We had a big issue before this with Shopify and another optimisation app (Avada).

After about a month of back and forth, we found out something that no one clearly tells you:

Optimising images after uploading to Shopify doesn’t actually reduce your storage.

Because of changes Shopify made in 2024, the original files are still kept. So if you’re not careful, you can end up going over your storage without realising.

The correct way is:
Optimise your images first, then upload them.

Final thoughts

We’re still in the middle of the process, but so far we’re very happy and I will update this review in a month. We had an awful time with AVADA and Shopify who could not work out why the images being optimised through shopify were not optimised, one month it took before they came back and said that you need to delete 70,000 images and basically start again, so be careful!!!

Great service, easy system, and the results speak for themselves.

Would definitely recommend.

Simple, fast, and effective!

We’ve been using TinyPNG to optimize our website images and the results are fantastic. It’s incredibly easy to use and the compression quality is top-notch—you can't see a difference, but the file size savings are huge. Highly recommended for anyone looking to speed up their site!

Tinypng is an amazing software!

Tinypng is an amazing software! I own/operate a clip art site where I sell my own clipart and store my png and SVG images on Google Drive, where purchasers access their clip art purchases.

I found myself having to create numerous zip files for each clip art bundle, due to the large file sizes of my png clip art (ranging 6MB to up to 18MB for each image).

I gave Tinypng a try and it hugely reduced my image file sizes without any visible loss of image quality, even when zooming in on images opened on Chrome to 500%! Examples: 8MB png files reduced down to 2MB or 3 MB; 10MB and 12MB files reduced down to 3MB. You get the idea.

I also use the reduced png images to create reduced SVG images, and again, greatly reduced SVGs without any loss of quality! My SVG file sizes after using Tinypng on my PNG images also result in SVGs with file sizes of 2, 3, or 4MB.

I am 5-star happy and beyond with Tinypng, and highly recommend the Ultra yearly account!

Amazing. I don't know how they do it.

Amazing. I don't know how they do it but they make images significantly smaller without any apparent reduction to quality. The api is convenient and fast. A great way to reduce website load time and very reasonably priced.

Excellent👍

Excellent software that smartly reduces the file size of WEBP, JPEG, and PNG files. It uses advanced techniques to decrease color data, resulting in significantly smaller files without compromising visual quality. It's a must-have for optimizing images and improving webpage loading times.
