Time bicycles have lost their way
Time bicycles have lost their way. There were always a few quirks with their bikes, but generally you would get a well-made “product for life”. No longer. I spent £4k on their flagship Scylon frameset and despite Time writing their “commitment to excellence” on the bottom bracket, it was clearly, visibly and functionally defective. They replaced it with an equally defective frame. Issues across these two Scylon frames include: bottom bracket finished off-centre (by several mm). Voids in the seatpost. Finishing of the seatpost appalling. Chip in the fork paint. Hose exit port in the fork visibly damaged and (in my opinion) dangerous as a result. Decal on fork not straight. Headtube doesn’t work with the (dirt cheap) headset Time shipped with it. Time Polymer handlebar doesn’t work with the frame and headset as shipped. The wrong parts for the handlebar and headset were shipped and didn’t work. In the end I had to spend hundreds of pounds on headset parts to get a bike with working steering. Thousands of pounds spent for something with obvious, visible QC issues. Two frames in and neither works. I don’t trust the bike, I don’t want to ride it and I don’t trust Time to make it right. I don’t know where it went wrong for Time, but I am guessing it’s when the new owner apparently decided QC was no longer necessary.
