Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 63 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Consumers find it extremely difficult to reach customer support by phone, frequently getting trapped in automated phone loops or receiving zero replies to their emails. Many customers also reported experiencing steep price hikes and unexpected charges for extra lawn treatments that they never approved in advance. Some people were satisfied with individual staff members who personally visit properties to treat lawns. Reviewers noted that certain local operatives are consistently polite, highly knowledgeable, and reliable during their scheduled appointments. These specific field workers manage to deliver good service despite the wider administrative issues.

Greenthumb have finally agreed to waive all charges after 6 days of communications to and fro. I am grateful for their final gracious message.

I really wish we had read the reviews…

I really wish we had read the reviews here before paying for all our treatments. Admittedly our grass had started to look really healthy, until November when the scarification process left us with a very badly damaged lawn that was mainly just mud rather than grass, not to mention the absolute mess that they left behind afterwards. After almost 4 months of going back and forth we finally got Greenthumb to agree to get our grass reseeded as a ‘gesture of goodwill.’ Conveniently the damage was then blamed on leather jackets, despite there being no evidence and the damage not being consistent of leather jacket damage. We naively paid for the leather jacket treatment but sought other advice from a local company who advised it was not leather jackets but the scarification that caused the damage. I have terminated our contract and asked for a refund of the months we have paid for since November, this has been declined and we have been advised to ‘look out for cranefly’s in the summer’ - complete waste of money, and the grass seed that was applied did absolutely nothing.

Brighton - unprofessional and lack of care

Brighton
We thought Green Thumb was a professional lawn care company. This is not the case. We had leather jackets last spring and after telling them we had a problem they gave an additional treatment on the spring/summer visit. Whether this worked or not we do not know as the larvae hatch in May. As winter progressed this year we noticed the lawn was in an increasingly poor state, with moss and bare patches everywhere. We advised the company again of our problem only to be told that we should have had another treatment in October as this is when the dragon fly lay their eggs. We did not know this and were not advised by Green Thumb at the time I have subsequently found out that we should also have given our lawn a short cut at that time so that the eggs were more exposed for birds to eat. Our new lawn which is only three years old is now non existent.

Green Thumb Lawn Treatment not fit for purpose!

I have been using Green Thumb for 3 years following a new lawn I had turfed. Moss started to appear from Autumn last year, by March there was no grass left and I have had to invest in a brand new lawn and topsoil. Green Thumb will take no responsibility blaming the acidity of the soil, leatherjackets or wet winter. Their treatment did absolutely nothing and the price increased 40% in that time. Very unprofessional and non existent customer service. My advice is stay well away!

We have been long standing customers of…

We have been long standing customers of Green Thumb like many others that have reviewed on here. However the last few visits and treatments have destroyed our lawn. On phoning the immediate response was to simply tell us it could be leather jackets! We had followed the advice previously for two years with regards them and treated the lawn as advised with nematodes so are left both bemused and annoyed. Whatever the treatment in February was it has damaged our lawn in a significant way! Not the same company at all.

Maidstone Branch Scarification.

Maidstone Branch Scarification.
Booked scarification appointment today was timely, efficient and tidy. Yes, a bit messy with the wet ground but care taken, thorough job and excellent service from Dave and Lewis.
Thank you Colin

Continuing good service

David from Dartford came last week (as he has done for years) and carried out our treatment as usual. Lawn is looking good and hopefully will continue through this year. He is courteous, cheerful and works hard. Change of ownership doesn't seem to have degraded our area.

AVOID AVOID!

Same as other reviewers, my advice is to AVOID Green Thumb at all costs. They used to be good, but since the local franchise was closed down a year ago, firstly they increased my direct debit by an unreasonable 50%, and secondly the service has completely failed. They definitely do not deliver the programmes that they promise - they do not stick to the treatment schedule, and the operators literally spend only a minute applying the chemicals. When I cancelled they sent me a huge additional invoice and started a campaign of bullying me into paying this. What a way to treat a woman in her 70s!!

Poor lawn care and customer service

I have been with GreenThumb for over three years, the lawn sclarification and other treatments were sometimes late and the overall quality of the lawn care began to decline. My lawn had weeds and patches despite paying over £350 in the year for the treatments. Pictures have been sent but no response has been received from GreenThumb. Despite paying by Direct Debit, they have miscalculated the costs of the service and have shared three outstanding different balances, even though I have paid by direct debit. They have poor records and nobody on the end of the phone can give me a straight answer. The company appear disorganised and are having difficulties with basic operations. My complaint has been outstanding for 10 days and I continue to chase them so I'm not left with a debt/CCJ. A local smaller firm may be better and cheaper and I would not recommend this company.

A deteriorating company

I had been with Greenthumb for approximately 20 years and was happy with them as they operated a franchised system. Then they brought it in house. All of a sudden there was a different person coming every visit. My lawn deteriorated dramatically to the point I cancelled the contact. I was then pestered for outstanding monies, which I dispute. Be warned Greenthumb have deteriorated as a company and if you use them, in my opinion you will not get value for money.

Not what they were

They used to be good when they were locally run, they are now a corporate company run from North Wales. Up to this point I have been reasonably happy with what they did, maintenance through the year and aeration and scarifying. Gone down hill, they were unable to do the aeration and scarifying it was too wet, re-booked for me, this was a no-show, re-booked and another no-show ! Waiting for them to tell me when they are coming (maybe) next time.
Considering my options !!

Recommended to use Green Thumb by a neighbour especially for the treatment of leatherjackets! Made contact via the web, received follow up emails stating day to visit to inspect. Attended on the day quoted and priced the work required. Happy with the price quoted and the work was undertaken immediately. Craig Howard was the Green Thumb representative who was very knowledgeable and helpful. So far, very impressed, just hope the leatherjacket treatment does the job it’s intended for - time will tell!

Terrible company

Terrible company, cancel appointments or just don’t show up.
Provide the wrong treatments and then attempt to charge for these.
Paid over £500 to have my lawn re seeded on their advice, two treatments later and it’s worse than it was before they started, I’m sure they put weeds in their seeds.
Spoke to the company at an attempt to resolve this and got told I must not be Intelligent enough to follow their instructions, which upon review were incorrect.
Absolute robbing cowboys!!

Appalled at the incredible price…

Appalled at the incredible price increase. £16.50 to £29.00 so cancelled. At our main property I was waiting for price increase notification that never came by letter, text or email so went ahead with the treatment. Told to pay £10+ increase and when I said I had no notification as would have cancelled, they just said letters were sent out. In other words I felt they were saying I was lying but why would I, I would have just cancelled. So trying to take to complaints level which just frustrating and time consuming.

Extortionate price increases for long standing customers!

I have used Green Thumb for over 10 years. I've had to recently cancel my treatment plan due to the extortionate price increases. My treatment went up from £16.50 - to - £29 since having to deal direct with the company and not the franchise we had locally. Like someone else commented, the guy is literally treating the lawn less than 5 minutes. Most of the work is done by ourselves. Shocking that Green Thumb treat long standing customers this way by almost doubling the prices.

Green Thumb avoid them

I have cancelled my arrangement with Green Thumb. The last 3 treatments I got bills saying they wanted payment when it was paid on the day they came. No one ever answers the phone. Now they have increased my payments from £15 to £29 each time. Inflation has gone mad here. I am a pensioner and would never have agreed to this disgusting price hike.

If it was possible I would give -10 the branch I have dealt with Redcar accused me of owing them money. I did not they then tried to say it was my banks fault. It was not . Head office were next to useless as they took everything Redcar said as gospel and never bothered to check. Take my advice people and avoid this company like the plague.
