I’ve been buying my Service kits and…

I’ve been buying my Service kits and spare parts for my La Pavoni coffee machine for a few years from the Espresso Shop. I find it very easy to find the parts I want and they come quickly. I’ve never had a problem. I intend to continue using this company and would happily recommend them.

Diabolical customer service

I purchased as listed a ‘La Marzocco Bottomless Portafilter with 21gm Basket - L111/X’ for £45.84 - which was a reasonable price for a genuine LM Portafilter.

When it arrived it didn’t have any of the usual La Marzocco logo embossing within the metal and was clearly a replica or fake.

Not a problem, I contacted the company by email to highlight this issue and asked to return for a refund.

They said that it was fine to return and I was correct it isn’t genuine it has the word ‘compatible’ within the small print of the description. I would have to cover return postage and additionally they would refund me in full deducting the carriage.

I disagreed with this and we had backwards and forwards emails, I remained polite and calm in all my of my correspondence with them. Every opportunity they had they were rude and belittled me.

Their last email to me was as follows:

Hi Adam,

You still need to return the item. The bank will tell you that as well.

The simple fact is that you were too lazy to read the description and now need someone to blame instead of taking ownership for your mistake.

We do not mislead in anyway and never have done. Hence why we have been doing it so long.

Anyway, send it back, get your refund, simples.

Astounding they’d call me lazy for not noticing one word in the description and just bonkers they were so obtuse and frankly rude to a customer.

Not one single email from them had the name of the representative who I was talking with on it and when I did eventually reply I asked who it was talking to me in this manner, they did not reply.

Subsequently they changed the title of the La Marzocco ‘compatible’ portafilter to correctly match what they are selling.

I raised a reverse charge with my bank and they fully investigated finding Espresso Shop at fault and I got my refund.

I have worked in specialty coffee for several years, everyone I have come across in this industry is so helpful and friendly, this is the first time I’ve had the misfortune to deal with such an awful company who speak to their customers so disrespectfully.

Please Espresso Shop use this as an opportunity to improve your processes and the service you offer to the coffee community.

====

Update to my review since they have now replied (but haven’t replied to my last email)

As I mentioned they changed the title of the item following my original email in their website; so if that’s not admitting that it’s incorrectly listed then I’m not sure what is.

All I asked was for them to pay for the return and give me a full refund. Any business that has been operating for as long as this should have some idea that even if they don’t fully agree with the customer, that it would be easier just to admit difference in opinion and prioritise customer experience.

You also stated in one of your emails ‘you’re the first ever customer to raise an issue with a listing title being misleading’ yet I’ve seen many reviews on here saying the opposite - so that’s a lie from you?

You, are as I said from day one welcome to collect this non - genuine La Marzocco portafilter.

I spoke with La Marzocco direct after our first interaction and they don’t condone your listing and agreed it was very misleading, especially including their part number. However, they said they unfortunately have no power over such distributors to make you change it…. But luckily you have now (because you were wrong)

I think their response speaks for itself. So any perspective customer, please do enjoy reading it.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for writing this for everyone to read. Unfortnately we do come across this type of customer from time to time that can't put their hand up to making a mistake. Why you would buy something without reading the description or looking at the pictures is beyond us to begin with but then to blame the company selling the item for your mistake is just insane and the whole problem with the world today. Take ownership for your mistake, like a man and just say. "Soz man, i didn't read the description and purchased the wrong item. I just went for the cheapest option, hoping it was the right thing". No problem, send it back and we will get that sorted for you. But no, Adam here had to argue and argue that he was right.

The webite has two options. One clearly stating it is a cheaper compatible version that you can see has no branding and the other which is double the price and states OEM and has all the branding.

We understand it is difficult for some people but more so for Adam as he has to be correct, just so he can screw us over for the money and the item. Yes, the banks will always favour the customer as they generally only employ robots that don't actually look at anything and probably just can't be bothered listening to people like Adam and give them their money back. We actaully sent the full email chain, website links, showing how Adam was clearly in the wrong, all to Shopify and they wholeheartedly agreed with us and have fully reimbrsed us the money we lost to the bank because of Adams fraudulent claim. Just to make it clear, Adam here got all his money back and still has the item he was so intent was wrong. Hasn't sent that back yet, no. So that therefore makes you a thief and fraudster in our eyes.

Moral of the story.... take ownership for your mistakes. Don't be an Adam and try to be right about everything, out of frustration.
We are always here to help our honest customers. We have been open for almost 30 years within the coffee industry and have over 93% of our nearly 5000 reviews are 4 and 5 star. We don't tell lies. Don't be an Adam.

No correspondence from shop

Put in an order on 26/12/25. Received my order confirmation and invoice. It is now 02/01/26 and I Haven’t heard anything since, no order update, no shipping update. Nothing. Have called their number and sent an email and again no response whatsoever. Haven’t received any email stating maybe they’re closed for the Xmas period. Paid a lot for what I ordered and it’s been radio silence since. Not happy with the service at all considering how much I’ve spent.

Hi Jermaine,
We can only apologise for your bad experience but it was very clear on the home page that we would not be in office over the Xmas and New Year holidays and that all orders would be processed on 5th of Jan.
Kind Regards

Saved my Christmas!!

Cannot thank them enough, I ordered an OPV for my Gaggia Classic Pro after breaking my original while fitting a new spring and I ordered it in the evening on Monday December 22nd. It arrived today, Christmas Eve and as such it’s now fitted in my machine which is back up and running to make coffee on Christmas Day as planned. Thank you again and also big up to Royal Mail too for coming through with this.

So I dealt with David who start to finish has been superb. Actually I had an issue with the machine I bought BUT NOT THE SHOPS FAULT ! The back up service frankly is exceptional. I ended up with advice upgraded my grinder with a very good deal and amazing customer service. I felt David fully understood my issue and did his very best to resolve fully.
I 100% will buy from them in future and recommend them to all. Thank you

Best service and support ever

Not only everything I needed was in the renovation kit but I was helped with a bit of a teething problem I had ( my own fault for putting everything back in a hurry!).
One brief phone call and all I had to do was a minor tweak and I am happily caffeinated again.
In April, I'm buying a fancy La Pavoni Bellini !
But I'm keeping my Lever machine because it has lasted 15 years and it is still brilliant.
The Espresso shop is utterly wonderful
But also a rather bad influence !
