School residential

My daughter went on a school residential trip at the Boughton woods site and thoroughly enjoyed it however before the trip we were made aware to label all items and If anything was left behind they would post it back for the cost of delivery. My daughter took her brand new inflatable sleep mat which has tags with name/ school etc and it never made it from the trailer back on to the coach. Along with several other peoples. After weeks of phone calls and emails from myself and the school I was simply ignored. I was told on several occasions the person that deals with this would call me back but nothing. This was in the summer! I appreciate that things can go missing but the customer service is non existent. I wouldn’t recommend anyone taking anything with them that they might actually want back.

Not a great experience

Food needs to improve and an alternative should be available if the child does not like the main meal on offer. A bag of pasta and a jar of sauce or a jacket potato are cheap and most children eat pasta and potato. My son was told "Don't like the meal? There is nothing else so go hungry!" Apparently, the stew was disgusting!
Staff were not that friendly, judgemental and had favourites in the groups.
Some of the activities were ok but others were boring.
Not a great experience for the cost.
Will not be booking again.

The Bushcraft Company trip

I went to Bushcraft last month for a week for a Year 7 end of year residential and this was my actual experience.

Food:

Breakfast: The food was out of this world and it was more delicious and more hygienic.

Lunch: Ok, just needed a slight improvement on the recipe.

Dinner: TERRIBLE, Staff kept saying that their curry was good including the Naan bread as well, well it turns out the curry tastes like pond water and the naan is rock hard bread which wasn’t actually fresh which included every single dish they were making for dinner.

Activities: Good, some activities which I didn’t enjoy such as animal tracking which was actually weird because there wasn’t much footprints.

Staff: Respectful and helpful, our camp leader (Liam and George) were helpful to find our way across the woods as there were loads of trees in the forest.

Amenities:

Toilets: They are UNHYGIENIC and also the worst part DISGUSTING as they were stinky and not an enjoyable place to be in. Thank god I went to the loo once and not multiple times.

Hand wash stations: They are limited which means you need to wash your hands but the people are using those washing stations to refill their bottles, brush their teeth and more. They should really install hand washing areas on the trees by looking on simple Bushcraft skills to wash your hand in the wild.

Bottle refill stations: They are honestly the same review as the hand washing stations (above this review) but this time improperly filtered water and busy stations for other things like Brushing teeth’s and washing hands it’s not reliable.

Overall the trip wasn’t a good experience and some activities led to me being injured. If you’re a school or a person wanting to visit Bushcraft I do NOT recommend visiting Boughton Woods (The Bushcraft Company) in any locations.

I enjoy camping in Summer and Winter but this is NOT the place to visit especially for a school to visit.

Their activities might be fun, but their service and amenities are a disgrace and no school or university should visit this place.

I would give it 0 stars if I could

I would give it 0 stars if I could!

My son was due to go on a residential trip with his school after months of building up his confidence to go and take part. The day before he was due to go he was in school as normal, nothing to indicate he was ill or coming down with anything. When he got home he removed his uniform and I noticed his stomach and back were covered in chickenpox. I contacted the school immediately and informed them that he wouldn’t be able to attend school and ultimately the trip. I discussed the possibility of a refund for the trip due to his illness and the school dealt with this on my behalf. The company have refused to refund me anything (not even a partial refund) due to the last minute cancellation but as the sickness only just occurred I couldn’t give them any more notice. They have insurances for things like this but they don’t offer the parents the opportunity to purchase insurance as an add on for anything like this. Illness can happen at any time and it’s beyond anyone’s control so not offering insurance is irresponsible. I paid £220 for this trip (that I also would have had to transport my child to and from if he was able to make it) and we have nothing at all to show for it. Until this company offers insurance as an add on to parents, I really wouldn’t risk allowing your children to partake in any trips their schools arrange with this company.
